1. "It is hopeless for the occasional
visitor to try to keep up with
Chicago. She outgrows his
prophecies faster than he can
make them.“
- Mark Twain, 1883
2. History
Chicago has been around since the late 1700’s,
but wasn’t officially a city until 1837. It’s first major
building was Fort Dearborn. It was burnt, rebuilt, and
demolished. The Great Fire of 1871 destroyed most of
the city, but it was quickly rebuilt. The city has thrived
since. It is the now biggest city in Illinois, and one of
largest in the US. Visitors come from across the world
to see this great city.
3. The Willis Tower
One major attractions in Chicago is the Willis
Tower. IT was Formally known as the Sears Tower.
Despite the name, it has always been the tallest in the
U.S., and was tallest in the world for 25 years. It is
currently the 7th tallest structure in the world.
4. The Sky Deck
Not only do people go to the Willis Tower to look at it,
they look over the city from the top of the tower. Opened
in 1974, viewers have walked out onto a four foot glass
box that is 1,353 feet (that is the 103rd floor) above the
ground. There are boxes facing out in each direction, so a
viewer can look out in every direction. It looks like this:
5. Wrigley Field
Another attraction of Chicago is Wrigley Field.
Home to the Chicago Cubs, it has always been known
as one of the best baseball fields in all of people.
Many come to Chicago to see a good baseball
game in a great stadium.
6. Where to Stay?
• River north is know for its hotels. In the midst of
downtown Chicago, this area has many large and
luxurious. Some examples look like this:
7. Other Info
• The best time to go to Chicago is in the Early
Summer because in the mid summer it is very hot,
and winter is extremely good.
• I would fly in because it is a little over a two hour
flight, and driving takes a day or two.
• If a visitor is not use to big city driving, it would be
easier to take public transportation than renting a
car.
• The only downside is that there is a lot of criminal
activity in the south side of the city
