The EEOC is the federal agency that ensures workplace equity and prevents discrimination. The EEOC protects against age discrimination by investigating claims, attempting conciliation, and pursuing legal action if needed to enforce the Age Discrimination in Employment Act which prohibits discrimination against employees aged 40 and over. Employers are responsible under this law to not discriminate in any aspect of employment against those protected by the ADEA.
