  • 8. Why  is  correct  infla>on   pressure  so  important?   Nothing  will  make  your  Ares  last  longer,     wear  more  evenly,  be  more  consistently     retreadable  and  provide  superior  fuel   efficiency  than  maintaining  correct   inflaAon  pressure.

What  happens  to  a  casing   when  it  is  under  inflated?     The  air  molecules  bouncing  around  off  the  inside  of   the  Are.  If  you  force  something  into  a  confined   space  that  is  usually  allowed  to  be  free  it  will  exert   pressure  (Force)  on  the  walls  of  it's  container.  An   increase  in  Are  temperature  or  fricAon  will  cause   the  air  pressure  to  increase  while  colder   temperatures  will  cause  it  to  decrease.

If  your  wheels  are  damaged  or  corroded,  or  if  your   Are  beads  have  been  damaged  through  incorrect   mounAng  procedures,  or  if  you  don't  have  a  uniform   layer  of  proper  mounAng  lubricant  on  the  bead   seats,  you  can  lose  air  around  the  beads.     An  old,  cracked  valve  grommet  can  also  allow   inflaAon  loss.       Covering  the  inside  surface  of  the  Are  is  a  thin   rubber  layer  called  the  "innerliner."  It  may  have  two   or  three  layers  itself,  and  it's  designed  to  bond  firmly   to  the  Are  casing,  yet  resist  Any  molecules  of  air   passing  through  it.     Even  then  you  can  sAll  lose  1-­‐3  psi  per  month.  The   air  actually  migrates  through  the  Are,  especially  the   sidewalls  where  the  rubber  is  thinnest.   How  does  air  get  through  solid  sidewalls?   They  aren't  so  solid.    
  • 13. What  Oxida>on  Does  to  Your  Tires  and  Rims   Oxygen  and  moisture  are   destrucAve  to  your  Ares.   OxidaAon  can  cause  bubbling   or  flaking  of  the  metal  finish,   which  at  that  point  can   degrade  the  base  material  of   the  wheel  itself.    
  • 14. Since  water  vapor  also   permeates  the  Are  rubber,  it   can  separate  the  layers  and   even  rust  the  steel  belts,   making  for  an  extremely   unsafe  driving  condiAon.
