5. In a recent experiment a busker was asked to play in a
busy street. The ad hoc money contributions from
passers by were monitored and measured.
When a stand in 'actor' passer by was asked to drop
money into the cap people almost always copied that
person and added some spare change.
The money total went up by eight times! Yes, 8!
When people were asked why they contributed they
said a host of other reasons: good voice, good music,
altruism.
Nobody realised that they had simple been a victim
of 'herd behaviour' and copied the person in front.
6. Think about the busy street food seller.
Are you likely to join the queue and buy from
their stall or from the 3 neighbouring stalls
without a queue. Hay, you join the queue dont
you!
So lesson 1 is that a busy store is a good one.
Next how to make the store an experience so
that it becomes busy and later how to convert
the presence of those people into transactions.
