[Moderator]Hello everyone and welcome to the Mango Languages webinar. This webinar is ideal for those who want to know more about how offering Mango can benefit their patrons and help turn their library into a hub for language and culture in their community. For existing clients, we suggest you attend our Mango 101 Training Webinar. For more information about Mango 101, please contact your Client Care Rep.My name is [Moderator Name] and I’ll be moderating today’s webinar. Presenting today is [Presenter Name].We will be happy to answer any questions you have towards the end of the presentation, so feel free to submit them as we go along via the questions field in the GoToWebinar panel to the right of your screen. So with that, I’m going to go ahead and hand it over to [Presenter Name]. [Presenter Name], whenever you are ready to get started.
Thanks, [Moderator Name]. And thank you everyone for attending today’s webinar.Like [Moderator Name] said, my name is [Presenter Name], and I’m a [Title] here at Mango.Followed by personal intro...Tiffany’s is below…Language learning is an important part of my life, as I come from a pretty diverse background myself. I was born in the UK, immigrated to the US as a child, ended up attending an international school and began studying French and German. I ended up sticking with my German studies throughout college and eventually married a German. So learning about and understanding foreign languages and cultures has become a very important part of my life.So today I’m hoping to instill in you a little bit of the love and excitement that I have for foreign languages by telling you about what Mango Languages offers and showing you our program in action. So to get us started, I’m going to bring up a statistic that I find very interesting…
Did you know that, while 65% of the world is bilingual…only 9% of Americans are? While learning a second, third or even fourth foreign language is common for students in Europe, China and many other countries, the U.S. is the only industrialized country that consistently graduates students with only fluency in their native language. Our goal is to help you change this statistic, starting in your community.source: CNN, http://articles.cnn.com/2001-06-19/us/language.glance_1_languages-origin-tongues?_s=PM:US]
So, speaking of your community:We realize that your users have many different learning styles and also many different motivations to learn a new language. So our goal is to provide a language-learning resource that meets their unique needs and will help keep them motivated.
So, let’s start by talking about a few groups in the public library community that can benefit form Mango…perhaps some of these faces look familiar…First of all, ESL LearnersRather than providing ESL learners with a single, generic English course, Mango offers 15 different ESL courses that are customized and localized for the user’s native language. We teach content that is practical and relevant, helping them quickly get to a conversational level where they can build relationships and engage with the community.Secondly, Job SeekersThis is one that’s relevant virtually everywhere right now. Mango is a great tool for job seekers who are looking to make themselves more marketable by adding a crucial, in demand skill to their resume. Salary.com actually reports that bilingual pay general ranges between 5-20% more per hour than the position’s base rate.Business ProfessionalsWith the demands of today’s global marketplace, business professionals can utilize Mango to help them prepare for foreign travel assignments or simply as a tool for career development and advancement.HomeschoolersMango provides homeschooling families with a large database of language offerings to help their students get started and stay interested, all while building a strong language foundation. And finally we’ve got, IntellectualsThis is the group of people who are visiting your library because they are looking for tools for their own personal enrichment. Mango provides intellectuals with the opportunity for personal growth by adding another skill to their repertoire and allowing them to learn about foreign countries and cultures.
So now let’s talk about the benefits for academic institutions. The first thing that you should know is that Mango isn’t just for students.Mango is unique in that it really is a resource with broad appeal, so it’s something that everyone on campus can benefit from: students, faculty and alumni alike.Let’s talk about students first…For students, Mango can be used as a supplement to traditional language classes (for example: it’s a fantastic way to fulfill an extra credit hour, or to provide an interactive resource that students can use at home or in a language lab), but it’s also a great way for students to gain exposure to languages that aren’t offered through your school (for example: Icelandic, Hawaiian or Haitian Creole, just to name a few). Mango can also benefit a number of different programs on campus outside of the Modern Language Program, such as your Study Abroad Office, the International Studies or ESL Program, or your Career Services Office. But as I said earlier, Mango is a resource with broad appeal and it’s not just about students…Mango is also a fantastic way to provide faculty with additional training and development, or to help them prepare for international sabbatical. So if you’re looking to bring Mango to your campus, the HR department is also a great place to partner up with. Finally, Mango can benefit your alumni as well. This is one of the subscription perks that always gets our customers excited. If you sign up with Mango, we’ll offer your alumni network access to Mango, so you can market it as a perk of joining your alumni association, and it will in turn help prepare your alumni for an ever globalizing workplace and give them a leg-up against the competition in the job market.
So now let’s talk about the products and services that you get as part of a Mango subscription. The first thing, of course, is all the languages. With our database, your users will have access to 60 foreign language courses and 15 ESL courses. We also offer a special Religious & Scholarly Collection – something that is unique to Mango. These courses teach the language based on lessons that focus on ancient scholarly and religious texts. The languages in this collection are Latin, Biblical Hebrew, and Ancient and Koine Greek.Secondly, Mango offers complete, unlimited simultaneous remote access for your users. So you don’t have to deal with the headaches of limited licenses, only having access on a certain computer, or only at the library. Your users can learn at the library, from home, at a café – essentially anywhere they have an Internet connection. They can also learn on the go with our apps for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android. So finally, let’s talk about the things YOU get. We provide all our clients with access to our Mango Administration Portal. The portal is sort of like a one-stop-shop to get all the things you’ll need to administer a successful Mango account. We provide detailed usage statistics and reporting through the portal, and there’s also an area where you can download free marketing materials, like posters, table tents, and web banners. We also offer access to specialty courses, like Libby the Librarian, which is our Library Spanish course that was designed specifically to help librarians assist their Spanish-speaking patrons.
In addition, we have a couple add-on products that are available for your organization:The first is Mango on Playaway. I’m sure some of you are already familiar with Playaway devices, but I’ll provide a quick summary for those who aren’t. Playaways are essentially mini-mp3 players that can be added to your collection and checked out by users. All users have to do is plug in some headphones, and they’re good to go. On Playaway, we offer our Basic course in 12 of our most popular languages.Next up, is Little Pim. Little Pim is a program designed for children up to 6 years of age. It’s takes a really unique and cool learning approach that is optimized for younger users. Every course utilizes videos that are designed to immerse the child in words and themes are actually relevant to their daily life. Each course teaches 360 words and phrases, providing children with the essential building blocks for language learning. The great thing about Little Pim is that is can be automatically added on to your Mango Languages’ database. So just let us know if this is a product that you’re interested in, and it’s as easy as “flipping the switch”, so to speak, to add it your collection.
So, finally, before I go into our live course demo, I’d like to give you all a little sneak peek of what’s coming down the pipeline.Scheduled to be released in November is our newest product, Mango Premiere. Mango Premiere is actually the first and ONLY language learning resource to teach using full-length feature films. So these are exactly the same kind of films that you’d expect to see at the movie theater or on Netflix – extremely high quality, engaging content. And the awesome thing about Mango Premiere is that it’s going to be automatically added on, with a package of movies, to all existing Mango subscribers when it launches on November 12th. So if you sign up with Mango now, it’s going to be added on when it launches…which provides your users with even MORE ways to learn and immerse themselves in foreign language multimedia.I’m going to play a quick trailer of the product, so you can see what it’s all about.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAas9djhSRA&feature=c4-overview&list=UUzI2R1PIUnNTe2_x59L0sBQ
We’ve talked a lot about what Mango offers…I think it’s time to see a course in action, don’t you think?Today, [Moderator Name] and I are going to be demoing our Japanese course. [Moderator Name]’s going to play the role of the user as we go through the course to give you an idea of how our methodology works and show you all the features. So are you ready, [Moderator Name]?<<DEMO SCRIPT>>
So, now that we’ve tried out the program in action, you might see why Mango is currently the #1 language-learning resource for public libraries in the United States. But for listeners coming to us from the academic world, you may be interested to know that we’re picking up a lot of steam in that market as well. We’re currently available in about 500 academic institutions across North America and are happy to say that we’re continually adding new institutions to that list every month. So that wraps up my presentation here today, I’m going to hand it back over to [Moderator Name] for the Q&A portion of the webinar.
<<MODERATOR>>Thanks Tiffany! OK everybody, we’re going to go ahead and start our Q&A now, so if you’d like to submit a question, simply type it into the GoToWebinar panel on the right of your screen.Sample Questions:How many people can use Mango at one time?Unlimited, simultaneous accessNot a single license, single computerUse anywhere at the library, home, anywhere with an Internet connectionMobile apps!Does Mango provide any services to help their clients promote the database?Promo materials available through the MAPFindMango.comSocial Media Feature
