Beti Bachao Beti PadvoScheme (BBBP) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 January year2015.
On 19 April 2016 Union Government extended the Beti Bachao Beti Padho (BBBP) Scheme in additional 61 districts across 11 States and Union Territories. The scheme was extended in the districts with low Child Sex Ratio.
2016 World Press Freedom Index released: India ranked 133rd.
World Press Freedom Index is published annually by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) since year2002.
It measures the level of freedom available to journalists in 180 countries using the following criteria – pluralism, media independence, media environment and self-censorship, legislative environment, transparency, infrastructure, and abuses.

Sportsman of the Year Award for a third time, whereas US

presented the Hindi Sevi Samman Awards for the years 2012,

The awards were distributed at a function at Rashtrapati
Bhavan.
President Pranab Mukherjee honoured the Chinese professor
Ge Fuping with the George Grierson prize for his remarkable
works done for the promotion of Hindi abroad.
These Awards were instituted by Central Hindi Institute, Agra in
1989.
Fourteen scholars receive this award in seven different
categories every year for their contribution in the field of Hindi
language and literature.

5. On 19 April 2016 US President Barack Obama nominated
Indian-American Geeta Pasi as the country's next envoy to
Chad.
Ms Pasi is the Director of the Office of Career Development and
Assignments in the Bureau of Human Resources at the
Department of State.
Pasi, who served as the US Ambassador to Djibouti from 2011
to 2014, is a career member of the Foreign Service.

authored by Kartar Lalvani, the book, discusses the British rule
and its role in creating a unified India.
It was in news in the third week of April 2016.
The book supposedly brings out the many positive aspects of
the colonial rule that remained hitherto untold.
The book outlines the British enterprise’s contributions in the
19th and 20th centuries that helped to create a unified India,
out of multi-cultural, multi-linguistic and divided regions of the
vast Indian-subcontinent.

On 20 April 2016 the 2016 World Press Freedom Index was released by
Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
The Index ranks 180 countries according to the freedom allowed journalists.
Finland, the Netherlands and Norway occupied the first three places.
India ranked 133 out of the 180 countries.
India ranks low;
• Because of the number of journalists killed and the impunity for crimes of
violence against the media.
• Frequent lawsuits against journalists by local officials.
• Frequent verbal and physical violence, attacks by armed groups are on the
rise in several states.
• With almost one attack on a journalist every month and four journalists
murdered in 2015, the state of Uttar Pradesh has become one of India’s most
dangerous regions.
• Indian government has made no provision for the creation of a special unit to
combat impunity for crimes of violence against journalists.
