Challenge: Student Locker Redesign
SCOPING
360° RESEARCH
SYNTHESIS
IDEATION
PROTOTYPING
VALIDATION
IMPLEMEN-
TATION
Define scope of locker
redesign, budget,
requirements (e.g. #
lockers, security
prerequisites, etc)
Immerse yourself in the
topic: Visit other schools,
research locker designs
Understand the needs of
students using the locker; i.e.
shadow them while they use
the locker, ask what is
important and why, ask what
should be changed in the
current design
Identify potential ideas to improve
locker design, collect those from as
many stakeholders (i.e. those who use
them, those who clean & maintain
them, etc) as possible
Visualize potential locker
designs with drawings, or
prototypes, then design
model lockers
Confirm design & functionality with
students; feasibility with construction
crew & economics of locker model;
adjust where necessary
Plan realization of
lockers
The Challenge Phase The Solution Phase
