POOL
• A pool of 800 Techies in areas of emerging
technologies
• Average age 26, average experience 8 years
• 90% of them are in the areas Computer Science,
Mechanical and electrical engineering
HUB
• Technical hubs include experienced developers in
engineers in basis technologies
• The hubs help different teams scale-up their
products/projects and bring them to life.
SMART PLATFORM
• A mixture of internally developed and commercially available
tools that automates most core processes
• Process including Matching, Project management,
Controlling, HRM, etc.
With each technology cycle, fresh new technologies appear and are reflected in the pool, other technologies are transformed into
basis technologies and form a Tech hub. This is how Motius keeps the balance between exploring new stuff and having the depth to
realize products.

The process starts with a
discussion with you moderated
by the Motius ThinkTank. The
goal here is to match your
problem or idea with a new tech
in order to sketch the approach to
the solution. This is free of
charge.
Using an AI-based matching
system, Motius matches the
generated approach or solution
with the talent pool. The system
scans technical experience,
tendencies, availability and
geographic position to generate
the best possible team.
Then the development starts.
Regardless of the contract,
Motius uses agile development
techniques to allow necessary
change within the project. This
process also allow the clients an
active role in the project. The
team is lead by our Project
Owners.
We don’t just deliver the result.
Motius offers a support phase to
make sure that the product or
solution is perfectly integrated.

15. “Through methodical approaches, Motius uses
the innovative power of its young employees to
generate new approaches and ideas. Concepts
do not remain on PowerPoint slides, instead all
ideas are implemented using the latest
technologies.”
“Motius combines the research spirit and
methods of the academic world with the
dynamics and processes of industry. This makes
Motius an innovative, reliable and flexible partner
for companies in the development industry.”

18. The HoloActive Touch project is part and one of the
highlights of BMW’s sculpture car which was
presented at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in
Las Vegas in 2017. With this futuristic concept, BMW
wanted to give a glimpse at what transportation might
become in a couple of years and how the human-car
interaction will be revolutionized. And that should not
only apply to the driving and controlling of the car but
further to an integral immersive and interactive
experience for the users.
In time for the CES, we had developed a fully working
and never-seen, highly innovative solution that
privileged users were able to try out. Many millions of
other people were able to catch a glimpse at the
technology by watching the massive media coverage
it generated. The hologram itself was projected from
a screen through a special mirror into the space in
front of the car’s middle console. We worked with
depths camera to track the position of the user’s
fingers to trigger interaction such as the pushing of a
holographic button. The feedback the user received
was created by a underlying ultrasonic array, which
would create vibration in the air at the given finger tip
position.
In future times of autonomous cars, the user will no
longer be occupied by operating the car. He or she will
be able to attend to personal matters during the
journey and interact with the vehicle in new ways. In
order to make this human-car communication unique
and immersive, Motius developed an interactive
hologram based system with haptic feedback to
manage the car and enjoy its multimedia offerings.
The main challenges during the development of the
hologram floating in the air, were the short time frame
as well as the combination and calibration of two
independent coordinate systems to enable haptic
feedbackonthefinger.

20. This project is about providing an exciting and innovative
new experience to customers in car showrooms. Instead of
being bothered by a salesperson, the customer can inform
himself or herself about the car by simply talking to it. Yes,
talking to the car itself!
Daimler car dealerships were facing two main problems that
we discovered through our two-day Design Thinking
Workshop:
• Sales representatives don’t have enough time to handle
every potential customer that walks into the dealership.
• Potential customers wanted to learn independently about
available cars and their features, before they talked to a
sales rep.
• Both issues were causing a significant loss of sales.
The Workshop that informed us of the two main issues
facing the dealerships also helped us come up with the
solution to tackle these roadblocks: the Knight Rider – a
chatbot based interactive system.
Using natural language interaction, this solution allows
potential customers to inform themselves about car features
and prices, as well as schedule test drives. The iPad-based
solution is easily integrated with the car’s head unit via a self-
developed mount and connects via Bluetooth to the car.
As soon as a customer enters the car and sits in the driver’s
seat, the iPad camera detects the person and starts the
interaction. After the conversation, all requested features by
the customer are stored and made available to the sales
representative for follow-ups. An admin interface allows the
dealership to add new car features and dialogue modules as
needed. This interactive chatbot solution is currently rolled
out at car dealerships in Germany.
22. In order to improve the maintenance and
decommissioning of nuclear power plants, workers
needed an accurate and efficient way to see relevant
information about pipes, pumps, and other equipment
and hardware in the facility using augmented reality.
Also needed is information about previous
inspections and construction plans, as well as more
critical and life-threatening alerts like radiation leaks.
Our biggest hurdle in this project was the short
deadline we had to complete it. The solution was to
be presented shortly after we started work on it at the
Hannover Messe trade fair. This tight deadline was
further complicated by the many iterations of the
solution we went through in the course of
development. Also, finding a convenient way to track
the objects was not easy, requiring us to try many
different types and sizes of markers to use with the
augmented reality system.
We created an AR application workers use on mobile
devices. They are connected to sensors in the power
plant, revealing relevant information about various
parts of the facility. In the end, we used small markers
next to the hardware that would be worked on by
maintenance personnel. In the future, with further
development, this would be done by object detection.
The users at the trade show used a large tablet to
augment the hardware model, which was made up of
pumps and pipes. When looking at a specific part, for
example a welding part, the user could click on a label
and see additional information, such as the reports of
previous inspections.
