Literature andLaw and Society.
Industry Analysis
As an industry,the schoolingsystemeffectsandassistsindevelopinga child’scognitiveabilities,
achievementandsocial adjustment(Entwisle,1995).These skillsare developedthrough the
curriculumprovided bythe educationsystem,all the way fromadolescence toyoungadulthood.
EducationIndicatorsinFocus(2013), suggeststhateducationcanimprove anindividual’soverall
health– increasinglife expectancy.Educationcanalsopromote active citizenshipandcontain
violence inindividuals(EducationIndicatorsinFocus,2013). Therefore,decreasingschool drop-out
ratesand encouragingyoungpeople towardshighereducation,coulddecrease the crime rate within
Australia. Asaninstitution the educationsystemcontributesto individualsand societyasa whole.It
acts as a place to formpolitical norms,valuesandbeliefs;maintainingthe stabilityof the political
structure and movementof democracy(Cheng,1996). Culturally, schoolsbecome the centerwhere
importantvalues fromthe pastare continuedbut are reproducedthrough integrationof various
cultures.AccordingtoY. C. Cheng(1996), educationalsoplaysa role insocial integrationand
equality.This contributesindeveloping basicsocial functionswithinthe society. However,cross-
culturallyeducationdiffersdue tovariousreasons.The apparentdifference isbetweenthe Eastern
and the Westernculture.Inparticular, the difference inreligion,valuesandbeliefs embeddedwithin
these differingsocietiesdetermineshowschooling impactsthe individual (Rubenstein,2006).This
wouldalsoinclude the role of sex andage determininghow mucheducationisprovidedtopeople.
In Australia,the AustralianCurriculum,AssessmentandReportingAuthority(ACAKA) discoveredthat
the knowledge of Indigenoushistorywasminimal and wasthenintegratedinthe curriculum(Lowe
and Yunkaporta,n.d).Thisensuresstudentsgainanin-depthknowledge inall aspectsof the
Australianhistory improvingcultural integration inthe classroom. The governmentdepartments
introduced programs toinclude Indigenouspeopleinourschools,suchas home basedlearning,
improvingliteracyandnumeracyprogramsthroughextrafundsandraisingcultural awarenessto
attendschool (VictoriaState Government,2015).This can improve accesstoeducation foryoung
Indigenouspeople. There has beenasignificantgrowthinthe amountof Indigenousstudents
enrolledintoschools–increasingfromapproximately150,000 in 2009 to 200,563 in 2015
(AustralianBureauof Statistics,2016).Thiscouldbe a resultof governmentawareness programsfor
Indigenouspeople.

Workplace Relations,AustralianCurriculum,AssessmentandReportingAuthorityandAustralian
Institute of TeachingandSchool Leadership(CurriculumandLeadershipJournal,2015).To focus
inside the school,accordingtothe VictoriaState Government(2016), there are sevencategoriesthat
organise the staff andtheirroles.The Principle has the responsibilitytolead,manage andimprove
education forall students.Theyare inauthority forthe overall school.AssistantPrincipal’s supervise
and coordinate the headteachers,allocate budgets,anddetermineschool proposals. TheLeading
Teacher isa skilledteacherthatundertakesthe leadershiprole toimprove skill andknowledge,
reviewstaff,demonstrate lessonsanddevelopandmanage the schoolscode of conduct. The
Classroomteachers focus onplanningandteachingstudentsbyfollowing the curriculum.
Paraprofessionals are relief teachers,orteachersthatstep inthe absence of others.The Education
supportclass coverseveryone rangingfromthe librarian,careerscounsellor,school counsellor,
humanresourcesandadministration.

professionalpractice andconductforteachers once registered (ACTgovernment,n.d).Before a
successful registration itiscompulsorytodemonstrate skillsof agraduate level oversevengeneral
standards,inthe AustralianProfessionalStandardsforTeachersprovidedby(AITSL,2014). Alongside
meetingregistrationrequirements,itisalsocompulsoryforall graduatingteacherstopassthe
Literacyand NumeracytestforInitial TeacherEducationStudentsandhave aWorkingwith
VulnerablePeople card.
It isconsideredof utmostimportanttohave the knowledgeaboutdifferentlearningandteaching
stylesasa school environment consistsof avarietyof people. The schools alsoencourage teachers
to be involvedinpastrol care andsocial welfare. Beingpartof extra-curricularactivities promotes
the importance of such activitiesandencouragesstudentinvolvement.Workinginateamis also
pivotal tothe teachingenvironment. Thisincludes,organisingand planningassessmentwith
colleagues,discuss planninglessons,and dealingwith conflictif andwhentheyarise. Beingenergetic
and passionate, addsvalue tothe teachingandlearningprocessasitsparksthe same energyand
enthusiasminstudents.

3. Personal Skills
My personalityalignswiththe qualities thatare required tobe a teacher.Beinginvolvedin social
welfare andpastoral care has alwaysinterestedme,asI get a sense of achievementbyhelping
others. Workingincollaborationisone of my strengths.Ihave beenable toenhance thisskill
throughmy casual jobsworkingincustomerservice. Ihave efficientlyworkedwithavarietyof
people withdiverse backgrounds tomeetgoals.Iam alsoextremelypassionate about the subjectsI
wouldlike toteach. However,one traitthatI wouldlike improveuponismynotso optimistic
nature.Thisis an attribute I hope wouldimprove overthe course of thisdegree.Myexperience in
dance for fouryearsand beinga passionate readerwouldencourage me tojoinextra-curricular
activities oreven initiate activitiesthatsupportsuchinterests. Leadershipplaysakeyrole inbeinga
teacher,andthisis one of my strongestpoints.However,Ihave realisedduringgroupactivitiesat
workor school, my desire tolead cansometimes overpowerthe ideasof others. Asafirstyear pre-
service teacherIam not aware of differentlearningandteachingstyleswhichisessentialknowledge
for a teacher.I am hopingthatthrough the course of my education,Iamable turn my weaknesses
intomy strengths anddevelopessential skills.

from562,000 employeesin1994 to 932,000 in 2014 (AustralianGovernmentDepartmentof
Employment,2014).The source alsohas predictedforthe industrytogrow fromthe 8.0% of
employmentrate nationally,toaraging 18% in the nextfive years. The consistentpopulationgrowth
will cause the educationindustryto generate employmentand increase studentnumbers,makingit
an inevitable growingareainsociety.
