1. TBYR February Meeting Minutes
February 23, 2010
Officers present: Andrew Dorsey, Adam Smith, Scott Strepina, Kim Hill, Ashley
Intartiglia, and Dan Sullivan
I. Andrew Dorsey called the meeting to order at 7:16 pm.
II. President’s Report:
a. RPOF – Andrew advised that the RPOF met and elected Senator
Thrasher as the new chairman of RPOF. Debra Cox-Rouche from
Hillsborough County was elected vice-chair. Her being elected
should give Hillsborough County some influence moving forward.
b. FFYR – At the February quarterly, Andrew Dorsey announced his
intent to run for FFYR Chair. He is running against Carolyn
Johnson who is the current Vice Chair. They have put together an
entire ticket. Andrew advised that currently he feels like the state
organization doesn’t give a lot of support to the local clubs. There
are 67 counties in Florida and only 20 have clubs. They have not
endorsed club development. AJ is running on the platform of
Teamwork, Technology and Transparency.
III. Ben Kelly from Jim Norman’s Office
a. Jim Norman has been part of the Hillsborough County Commission
since 1992. He is running for Senate.
b. He represents the Salvation Army at legislation so is comfortable
there and knows the way that it works
c. Jim Norman is a man of his word
IV. Officer Reports
a. AJ announced that Scott Strepina is running for Tampa City
Council, District 2.
b. Vice President’s Report – AJ announced that Ash is in Tallahassee
as a legislative aide.
c. Secretary Report – Last months minutes were voted in.
d. Treasurer Report – Scott announced that our current balance is
$828.60 with about $1,050 of A/R still out there. We should net
around $568.60 from that.
e. Community Affairs – Adam announced that we would be
participating in Relay for Life again this year. The event is on April
30th and goes all night. Our goal is to raise $1000. We need as
many participants as we can to be able to walk all night and raise
the money. You can visit relayforlife.org to learn more, sign up or
donate to our team. Adam advised that Disney is doing a give a day,
get a day so we are going to look into our options and try to get
people together to do a project.
f. FFYR – Adam advised that he has been a part of it for a long time
and feels like there needs to be a change. He announced that the
2. amount of votes each club gets is based on membership numbers so
the more members we have the more influence we have. AJ added
that if he wins the election, he will not run for TBYR president again
in June. AJ reminded everyone that to run for office you must be a
member for 3 months.
g. Communications – Ashley asked that if anyone has anything to
include in the newsletter that they can submit it to her. Ashley
advised that the TBYR Running Club would be participating the
Gasparilla Distance Classic on Saturday.
h. Membership – AJ announced that this is an open position. If you
are interested, please let him know.
i. Political Affairs – This is also an open position. Its job is to find
speakers, organize events. You get full access to contacts with
campaigns and allows you to make good connections.
j. Marketing – Jonathan advised that the election for District 58 is
tonight and Janet Cruz is winning.
Open the Floor:
Seth Hoffman announced that he is currently the Region 5 chair in the FFYR and
he will not be running again but would like a TBYR member to take over the seat.
It involves being there for the area clubs and help guiding them, answering
questions, and help develop new clubs.
Stuart Brownstein announced that he has renewed his membership with TBYR
and will be running for Region 5 chair.
Ben Kelly announced that Jim Norman is officially endorsing Andrew Dorsey’s
campaign for FFYR Chair.
Paul Phillips announced his candidacy for Florida House of Representatives.
Andrew advised that the Sarasota YR’s are doing a blitz week for memberships.
They are calling it the Paint it Red campaign and are hosting events Thursday,
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Andrew announced that the REC Lincoln Day Dinner is on March 6th.
