Angelina Jolie Stereotypes
The first advertisement, posted in W Magazine, perfectly relates to Arnold's cultural theory. Printed
in black and white, the photograph pictures a young, slim brunette model styling nothing but a fur
coat on a city sidewalk (Fig. 1). The photographer directly draws inspiration from the chaotic,
dangerous city streets, as Arnold previously mentioned, by showing the model hanging like a rag
doll with a chain around her neck. The title of the fashion spread, "Little Darling," is ironic, yet
effectively compares the helplessness of a mentally ill person to that of a child. While she models a
provocative, sexy outfit and intriguingly gazes into the camera, her posture is both childish and
helpless. The advertisement is both intriguing and disturbing, ... Show more content on

2). As Arnold previously mentioned, fashion provided women with the means to gain control of
their identity. In the first advertisement, the model fully embraces and dramatizes the weakness and
femininity associated with suicide. In the second advertisement, Angelina Jolie is pictured glaring
out the window holding a knife pointed to her chest. Although she alludes to suicide, it is clear in
her demeanor and expression that she feels in control of her own destiny. In this case, the
photographer, George Holz, shows Jolie using fashion as a way to take control of her identity,
demonstrating that suicide does not have to be associated with weakness and helplessness. He
specifically draws attention to the actress' breasts, which are centered in the photograph and really
emphasize her femininity. He parallels her aggressive and strong expression with her feminine
features, something that is not done in the rest of the fashion advertisements. While the majority of
advertisements romanticize the frail and helpless woman, Holz romanticizes the bold woman,
challenging the notion that suicide and emotional instability are intertwined.. Once again
referencing back to Hawton, this advertisement encompasses all of the criteria likely to cause an
increase in suicides. It is both graphic and dramatic, the method is clearly displayed, it does not
make any reference to history of mental illness and it is published in People Magazine, which has
the largest audience of any American magazine. Unlike the first advertisement, it uses a celebrity to
further capture the audience's attention, increasing the odds of imitative suicides. Stack's research
"Celebrities and Suicide: A Taxonomy and Analysis," looks at the differential identification theory
in order to understand why celebrity suicides

Angelina Joliee : A Career Of Actress As A Film Actress
Angelina Jolie Film Actress, Model, Producer, Activist, Actress, Director By: Gabby Beale Angelina
Jolie is one of Hollywood's most known actresses. Leading in movies like "Salt" and "Maleficent."
She's one of Hollywood's highest paid actors. Jolie was born in Los Angeles, California, June 1975.
She was always a joyful little girl, she would dress up and play improve while her brother would
record her. Meanwhile, she suffered from depression. While living in New York at the time, her
parents were separated when she was only 6 months old. Her father being the actress Jon Voight
managed to be very wealthy, but he failed to pay child support and saw Jolie and her older brother
occasionally leaving their mother in money trouble. She was bullied in school and when they moved
back to California she grew to be a rebellious teenager. She was a self–cutter (people who cut
themselves to relieve stress between the age of 7 to 24) and started doing drugs. One time she cut
herself so deep, she had to be rushed to the hospital. That was sort of wake up call for Jolie. Later in
1986 she dropped out of Highschool to attend Lee Strasberg Theatre and film Institution in West
Hollywood, California. There she learned the method of acting, how to feel the emotion of
characters by getting in touch with their painful memories. Acting pulled Jolie out of this dark place
in her life. She later went back to Highschool where the bullying continued. Jolie says " I didn't feel
clean or pretty" pg.17.

Presidential Election Of The United States
On September 26, 2016, 84 million people tuned in to the most watched debate in American history
(Battaglio). 84 million of the 135 million people who are estimated to vote in the United States'
2016 presidential election fulfilled their citizen duties on becoming aware of the candidates' policies
in order to make an informed decision when voting happens in November (Battaglio). About 60% of
estimated voters watched the raw debate so where will the rest of the voters get their information
from? They will most likely watch the morning or evening news the next day but the problem is that
the news will not be covering the hard facts of the debate. They will be talking about how many
times Trump interrupted Clinton, Clinton's 'robotic' answers, and possibly even update us on
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce. The viewers will miss out on being informed about important
issues such as tax policies and wage gaps that Americans face everyday. They are going to be
informing us on things that grab our attention, things that will raise their viewership and make them
more money. News outlets are now entertainment driven. As Al Gore points out in The Assault of
Reason, the idea of celebrification of the news negatively affected our public sphere in 2007 and
continues to harm the public sphere today. As a result, the public sphere is worse off today than in
2007. Our Founding Fathers broke our government into three branches: executive, legislative and
judicial, with the hope that

& Mrs. Smith". Angelina and Brad's relationship was not confirmed until she was pregnant with
their first biological daughter, Shiloh (Morton p. 267). Many have speculated this was due to the
fact that Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston just a few months before, but they have both
denied this (Morton p. 148). Angelina has a total of six kids now, three biological and three are
adopted from foreign countries. Jolie's first child was named Maddox who was adopted from
Cambodia (). Jolie and Pitt continued to adopt, later adopted Zahara from Ethiopia (). "Brangelina"
went on to adopt Pax, from Vietnam. In 2008, Angelina gave birth to twins, Vivienne and Knox in
Nice, France (). Jolie has stated that adopting children has always fascinated her. She states, "I'm
drawn to kids that are already born. I think some people are meant to do certain things, and I believe
I'm meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically." ()
This shows the softer side of Jolie that many of us are known to. Many can observe from this that
she is greatly involved in humanitarian work and has become less of a rebel and more of a role
model.
After several years of acting and building her family, Jolie has gone to direct her own films. Jolie's
first film she directed was "In the Land of Blood and Honey", a movie set in Bosnia about a couple
in love on opposing sides of war. () I felt that Jolie chose to direct this film to shed light on the
issues going around in the world and that these stories need to be heard. She went on to be
nominated for a Golden Globe for the category of best foreign film producer. () Jolie is a leading

The Similarities between Angelina Jolie and Beowulf Essay
Throughout time, heroes have stereotypically been described as men who possess qualities such as
courage, strength, leadership, and determination. Certainly, many of these characteristics have
changed as time has passed. In modern society, heroes can simply be average people who sacrifice
their own happiness for the welfare of others and do their best to create a change in the world.
Beowulf, an extraordinary warrior in the Anglo Saxon period, is an epic hero because of his pride,
strength and courage. He fought many battles in order to protect the Danes from chaos. Angelina
Jolie, like Beowulf, is a hero because she defeats every impediment to help and fight against
inequality. Heroes do not wait still in one place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not give up while fighting with the brawny monster Grendel, even though Grendel "clutched
at [him] with his claws" (Beowulf 428). According to Milena Veselinovico, the author of "leading
women," Angelina Jolie has risked her life to protect refugees in many countries in Africa. She went
to Sudan during a tremendous conflict and Chad during the civil war. She could have been
assassinated, but her thirst of justice could not be sate easily; she kept helping no matter the
circumstances. In able to be a hero, one must be internally strong to triumph obstacles life brings
and never back down when conflicts arrive.
Heroes often combat injustice to win equality and peace. Beowulf saves the Danes by fighting the
monster Grendel, but Angelina Jolie saves refugees by fighting the figurative monster of inequality.
In the mead hall, the place the Anglo Saxon warriors celebrated their battles, everyone was terrified
to fight Grendel because he was powerful and seemingly undefeatable. Beowulf fought the
abominable beast and obtained the glory of tranquility for the Danes because he wanted to "live in
greatness and courage" (368–369). Angelina Jolie keeps fighting with the invincible monster of
inequality that is happening in some parts of Africa and gives part of her fortune to refugees who
suffer from hunger and persecution. A hero does not need to fight a monster, sometimes the injustice
is the monster itself.

The Patient Will See You Now
HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now
Summary:
The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of
educational value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever–
expanding world of technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments,
and even prescriptions at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a
cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at
the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is
absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general
population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to
be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast
rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes
even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and
medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know
what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept
seems something that would be nearly impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new
technology and silicon, this dream can surely turn into a reality.

Dr. Versant: The Girl Who Changed My Life
In the midst of what stood for a mellow day, a girl finds herself situated in the same maroon arm
chair, she found herself in three years ago. Surprisingly to the therapist's knowledge, the girl's blank
face–expression had survived all these years; and from the looks of it, things hadn't changed, if not
stayed the same all together. Some may even say that in such events, things may always seem to
take a different turn into the same direction: misery. In New York, in the office of therapist, Dr.
Versanti, dreadful memories were uncovered. From Dr. Versanti continuous questions, the girl
finally spoke, marking the tragedy that hit on Monday, June 19, 1997. "It all happened so fast. From

What Is Angelina Jolie Developmental Biography
DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles,
California, to actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. Angelina had a troubled childhood,
the result of growing up with an estranged and famous father and a mother who, despite her laissez–
faire parenting style, used her daughter as a vehicle through which to live out her own dreams of
stardom. For the first year or so of Jolie's life, she was kept in a white office five floors above her
mother's apartment and tended by a rotation of babysitters (her mother finding her too similar–
looking to her just–run–off husband). There were days when her mother would not visit.
Psychiatrists speculate that Angelina's mother became unhinged after her husband was discovered to
be cheating on her while Angelina was just a babe in arms. Growing up, she didn't like being
hugged. During an interview with London's Mail, she said: "Growing up, I had a thing about people

Mick Jagger was smitten, and, still married to Jerry Hall and with a fourth kid on the way, pursued
her doggedly. He left long, pleading, and, tortured by her unresponsiveness, increasingly self–
abasing messages on her answering machine. Only it turns out that Angelina had given Jagger her
mother's number, who played the messages for her friends. "Here was Mick Jagger virtually sobbing
down the phone" (Morton, 133). Meanwhile, Angelina's mother was encouraging her daughter to
formalize her divorce from her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting, and consulting
astrologers on the likelihood of her marrying Jagger. Finally, just as Jolie's relationship with Billy
Bob Thornton was beginning, Jagger succeeded in publicly making out with Jolie at Toronto's Sky
dome during a Stones concert, in the middle of which he called her backstage and presented her

Cultural Spropriation : According To Adaption And Cultural...
What is the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation? Cultural
appropriation is the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially
without showing that you fully understand or respect a certain culture. Cultural appreciation is the
recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of the culture. Modern cultural appropriation is not
offensive because it showcases the culture in an inspirational aspect. As of 2017, it has become a
trend to become easily offended or play the victim. Celebrities play a major role in this controversial
subject. As celebrities have taken over social media platforms, people have been quick to call them
out over every little social media post. Some people who are more sensitive to this kind of subject
are constantly trying to find ways to call out these celebrities. However, not all of these celebrities
are trying to offend a certain individual or group. Some of them are actually paying respect to the
culture, because of the way they are properly portraying and representing it. For example, when
Angelina Jolie visited Pakistan to aid the victims of flooding, she wore a hijab out of respect for the
culture. Yet, the others are representing them in an objectifying way. For instance, Heidi Klum
dressed as a Hindu Goddess for Halloween in an objectifying way. They may not be trying to offend
anyone, but the perspective is different when it is targeted at people of color. According to Adaption
and Cultural Appropriation by Pascal Nicklas and Oliver Lindner, "Appropriation in this sense is
beyond the legalistic understanding locating it in the vicinity of "plagiarism" (Nicklas and Lindner,
6). Celebrities have been notorious for appropriating cultures for decades. For example, in 2008,
Heidi Klum dressed up as a Hindu Goddess for her Halloween party. The problem with that was that
her costume was graphic and objectifying a religion practiced by millions.
Let's look at cultural appropriation through a different aspect. Let's say that Bob worked really hard
on a coat, and it contained a lot of deep, significant value that only pertained to him or a small
group. The coat was significant to Bob because it represented the oppression his

How I've Improved My Speaking Skills and Giving Speeches
Since my first speech, I have improved my speaking skills by creating better introductions in my
speech, getting my script done earlier and being more confident during the speech. I've learned that
one of the keys to grab audience's attention and to get a good reaction is an interested introduction.
Also, I recognize that if my final draft done earlier before the presentation day, my script would be
better with more time to complete my revision. However, for my first speech, I didn't practice and
memorize enough and my performance indicated that. But with every speech after that, my practice
got better and it make my speech flow smoothly.
In addition, I've improved in using notes card during my speech. For my first speech, I can't
memorize all the speech so I rely on my note cards so much. But after that I immediately start to
practice. I try to practice from my note over and over again. Then, I start to look at the script less
and less until I feel confident about my speech. For example, in a small group presentation, I've
improved my presentation skills in memorizing the presentation. I can remember all the speech and
I know what's on every slide. I never have to pause my speech or to look at the script. This
technique gives me the benefit of having my presentation flow easily without having to memorize it
word by word.
However, I've some mistakes to improved and still need to works on which are grammatical errors
and pronunciation. Although I'm not native speaker of

The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by
Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity.
His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he
always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up
by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything.
He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was
learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states "The first time in your life
Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, "Wanted"). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces
the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, "shoot the target"
(Bekmambetov, "Wanted"). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to
complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his
shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says 'Welcome to the fraternity" (Bekmambetov,
"Wanted"). He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and
perseverance.

Descriptive Essay About Makeup
Women have been wearing makeup for years. Throughout the years, I transform myself into

angled eyeliner brush. Transforming my face into a well–known celebrity challenges my skills. To
transform my face, I see my characteristics are similar to Angelina Jolie. I identify my face to see if
the transformation is possible. I need defined cheeks because Angelina Jolie's cheek bones is her
most prominent feature. The cheeks must be high and well defined. Defining the cheeks, I choose a
medium brown shade of eyeshadow or bronzer. The forehead is the second most important feature
to create. Angelina Jolie has a long, narrow forehead, as mine is wide. Having the medium brown
shadow on my temples it creates shadows. I create the illusion of a long forehead. After identifying
my features, I am ready to start my transformation. The alterations for my face will take time to

right. When I perfect the look, I am ready to start. Next, I clean my face to have a clean canvas.

Self–Promotion and Celebrity Endorsements of Healthy Lifestyles
In his book Celebrity and Power: Fame in Contemporary Culture, P. David Marshall states "The
close scrutiny that is given to celebrities is to accentuate the possibility and potential for individuals
to shape themselves unfettered by the constraints of a hierarchical society" (246). Therefore,
celebrities are seen as role models for a lifestyle that might never be fully attainable by the average
person, but can be imitated. What is ironic then is that following a celebrity–endorsed lifestyle does
not create individuality, but reduces it. While celebrities endorse products, they also appear in
advertisements which promote a healthy lifestyle where through the abstinence ... Show more

Both phrases are denotationally persuasive, letting parent know that following what is said in the ad
will lead to happy children and good parent–child relationships. The way to achieve this is by
reading the information, but also buying concert tickets and supporting the band. As well, near the
bottom of the advertisement, the tag line "We All Make a Difference" appears under the Budweiser
logo. By adding this in, parents can also be persuaded to enjoy the beer responsibly as the company
projects itself through this advertisement as one that is concerned for the health and safety of
children. In all these ways, the linguistic messages of the advertisement go well beyond promoting
the cause, but also promote the celebrity endorsers, and in this case, the product which the
advertisement is deterring children from.
The iconic messages in the advertisement are also at work to achieve the cross–promotional result.
The non–coded Budweiser logo works in conjunction with the tag line "We All Make a Difference"
as discussed above, to promote the brand of beer. What is more interesting however, is the use of the
band's image as a coded message. Each of the five band members are looking directly at the reader,

Miss Havisham Character Analysis
Heartbroken For Life – Miss. Havisham Throughout her professional acting career, Angelina Jolie
has played the "evil character" in various movies, making her the ideal casting choice for Miss.
Havisham in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. After being jilted at the altar minutes before her
wedding, Miss. Havisham isolates herself from the outside world, locking herself in the Satis House.
Using her adopted daughter, Estella, she hopes to seek revenge on all male sex. Jolie plays
Maleficent, a vengeful, evil queen, in the movie Maleficent, and Lisa Rowe, an impulsive sociopath
who resides in a mental institution, in the film Girl, Interrupted . In both roles, her character takes a
sudden twist, turning from a sweet, loving girl to a cold hearted and aggressive freak. Similar to
Miss. Havisham, who has not changed out of her wedding dress since the incident, Maleficent's
physical appearance reflects her creepy personality. Her cruel actions are driven by a petty excuse –
not being invited to a princess' christening. As Lisa Rowe, Jolie plays an unfiltered, manipulative
and self–centered sociopath. Rowe's brutal honesty, self–interest, and controlling personality are
similar to Miss. Havisham's, which makes Angelina Jolie the perfect actress for Miss. Havisham.
Throughout the whole novel, Miss. Havisham is a self–pitying, self–absorbed, rich lady. Although
her money attracts her relatives, Miss. Havisham does not brag about how wealthy she is, but she

Essay on Girl Interrupted Review
One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the "Sexy Crazy Girl", which
we've seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is not a glamorous
subject, but that's not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the girls in the
movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it
just did not seem realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which made the care
facility look like a youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main (well known)
stars, (Jolie and Ryder) were focal piont. I'll also note that about half the young girls in the movie,

It seems she's playing nearly the same sexy–vixen she's played in a few other films already; just this
time, she's in a t–shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It'd be interesting to see Jolie really
stretch beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.
Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could've been rawer, more intense, and more
confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of
Kaysen's book would've been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young
actresses and a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob
Thornton that led to the film Sling Blade came to mind. I'm also noticing that that's the 2nd time I
referenced another film that is primarily about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film
about mentally ill young women, and maybe Girl, Interrupted could've been that film... but it isn't.
Quickly summed up, this film may indeed be compared to a female version of One Flew Over the
Cuckoo's Nest, except where that film was a rebellion tale, Girl, Interrupted appears to be more
about self–discovery. Though this film has been long in development, and many actresses vied for
the leading role, the casting call was even more crowded for the supporting roles. In particular,
though I haven't yet read the book, and so I don't know the

When most people talk about celebrities it is usually related to their latest fashion statement, the

where she is presently. Once married to Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie was known for being psychotic,
abusing hard drugs and alcohol, and having infidelity in her relationships (Ramsdale, 2013). Her
largely scrutinized life style slowly began to fade away into the past as her interest in humanitarian
work piqued after working on set in Cambodia in the year 2000 for her hit movie, "Tomb Raider"
(unhcr.org, 2013a). Soon after seeing the refugee crisis that is prevalent in Cambodia, Jolie began
travelling across the country with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
to help fight for the displaced people of the world and publicize their plight for the purpose to gain
international support on the issue (unhcr.org, 2013a). On top of travelling with the UNHCR, Jolie
quickly became a voice for those refugees who did not have one, and drew much attention to the
crisis that many displaced people faced around the

Why Did Muhammed Ali Have A Role Model
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT Muhammed Ali was very young when he started boxing. It all started
with his bike getting stolen right outside a gym. Muhammed Ali went inside the building and talked
to the policeman about his bike. The policeman was named Joe Martin and he was also a boxing
trainer. Muhammed Ali told Joe that he would find the boy that took his bike and whump him. The
policeman asked the little boy if he could box, and his answer was ''no''. Joe Martin told Muhammed
Ali that he should come to the gym first, so maybe he could teach him. It is very important for
children and teens to have a role model. This is important because you can learn so much from the

It was very hot in Kinshasa and there was going to be heavy rain later in the day. Ali was always
quick and strong, so he started to move and dance across the ring. Foreman came after him, and in
the first round there was no winner. Ali sat down and thought to himself ''I can't dance for fifteen
rounds. ''It's very hot, and Foreman is quick. The old game isn't going to work.'' This meant that his
old techniques weren't going to work with Foreman. He had to try a new game which was trying to
make his opponent tired. Ali was moving slowly, and sometimes he was only standing there.
Foreman was hitting him with big, heavy punches for six rounds. In round eight, Foreman was
getting slow and suddenly Ali was quick and strong again. Suddenly Foreman was lying on the
floor. He couldn't stand up, and Ali was the world champion again. I think that Ali Muhammed
would make a great role model for children worldwide, because he was a very good person. He
thought that peace in the world was almost the most important thing in the world. He didn't want to

The Mansion A Subprime Parable
An adequate understanding of the American cultural predisposition is required to analyze the actual
reasons for the subprime crisis of 2008 and the author, Michael Lewis tries to illustrate this by
describing his own personal experience of renting a luxurious mansion in New Orleans in his essay
'The Mansion: A Subprime Parable'. Although it is true that, the money lending business did
facilitate the American desire for unaffordable houses, it cannot be held responsible for it as the
author feels that it was the average Americans lust for bigger houses that was truly responsible for
this crisis. To illustrate, the author describes his own experience with renting a luxurious mansion
which reflects the model of the subprime crisis in general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

More interestingly, the author has personified the house in this essay to a great effect wherein the
reader ultimately even starts imaging the mansion to be haunted! More seriously, the author has
characterized the mansion to have a mind of its own because although the author is staying in the
house by paying huge rent, it is the mansion which is dictating the terms for him. For example, the
author is at the mercy of the mansion as the whole air–conditioning and alarm system is automated
and the author is still not able to understand it. Moreover, the mansion also compels the author to
shell out huge amount for its general maintenance like water and cable bills, over which he has no
control. In reality, the author's intention of writing that "the mansion made him do it" is to show that
the pretense of wealth requires it to do so. Primarily, the purpose of personification seems to be to
bring out the magnitude of impact the huge and unaffordable housing has on the financial health of
the owner in later stages, if he is not rich

Essay on The Media Effects American Culture
The media is the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines that
reach or influence people widely. The growth of the media has spread vastly over the years. The
media is also known as a "channel of mass communication." "Mass Media incorporates all those
mediums through which information is distributed to the masses. These include advertisements,
magazines, newspapers, radio, television, and the Internet" (Sebastian). The media introduces many
new things to the public, both positive and negative. The media harms the American culture by

People become consumed in this "fame and money" way of living that they will do whatever it takes
to be just like the rich" (Coleman). The media puts the reality into things with a twist of any kind of
story, quote, or anything that appeals to the public. This showed Americans that the media can
negatively affect anyone's life forever.
"The glorification of violence, drug abuse and other unhealthy habits has a major role in the outburst
of unfortunate incidents where children have gotten extremely violent and out of control. Be it the
advertisements touting products that promise a fairer skin or bods–to–die for or the television shows
and films, which portray violence, sexually explicit content and abusive language. There are music
videos and rock bands that give out the message that alcohol; drugs and sex are an inevitable part of
life. These ideals created by the media might not be necessarily appropriate" (Manohar). There is
this "media frenzy" going on in America that not only teens are being affected, but also adults.
There are misleading commercials or articles in the newspaper that lead people to believe things that
are not true. Tabloids, television, and the internet will do anything to attract attention and for people
to buy whatever they are selling.

Tattoos And Cultural Identity
Tattoos are a very prominent piece of several individual cultures across the world today, but they are
not always intended for cultural traditions. Tattoos can stand as a means for remembrance, a means
for identity, and to some, a means to separate those who are willing to permanently portray
something that they are passionate about. The author of Tattoos and Cultural Identity, a photo essay
about cultural identity, shares many pictures centered around the topic of tattoos in relation to
culture. The author is logical in their approach to a topic, describing the cultural background but not
the motives, and despite the lack of emotional bias, there is still an air of compassion for the people
portrayed in the photographs. The eight photographs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Similarities Of Mother Teresa And Angelina Jolie
Who do you look up to? Many different people are considered an inspiration for many different
reasons. When looking at Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie, you may not immediately see a whole
lot of similarities. The things that come to my mind when I think of them is their fame or popularity,
their way of inspiring thousands, and the controversy behind their names. Their popularity may be
the biggest thing they share. They are hugely known all around the world, although their popularity
may be more well known to more past generations compared to the newer ones. Mother Teresa is
known for her catholic religion and her devotion to it. When she was just eighteen she felt the desire
to become a missionary, in September 1928 she took off to fulfill that dream. On May 24, 1937 she
made her final vows to her religion and after that she was called Mother Teresa. She traveled the
world spreading word of love and her religion. She's helped many in need, this is how she got her
popularity. Angelina Jolie began her study of theatre at age eleven, five years later she started
modeling and was in a few music videos. Her big launch into fame was in 1999 in the movie "The
Bone Collector". As you can see they made their way to fame in two pretty different ways, but they
actually are well known for one thing in common. They are both humanitarians. Angelina Jolie
became interested in humanitarian work after her first adoption from Cambodia in 2002. She
adopted three kids overall, and shares three with her now divorced husband, Brad Pitt. Mother
Teresa became dedicated humanitarian work after her final vows. Both were born and raised with
influence in their legacies. With fame comes inspiration. Both women traveled the world, although
for different reasons both gained knowledge from their travels. Mother Teresa met many in need of
help while spreading the word of love from Jesus. If you look up Mother Teresa it is likely you will
find the webpage dedicated to her, on this page you will find many testimonies from lots of people,
whether they knew her personally, admired her, or were helped by her. She has lived a life devoted
to her religion, and when her question of faith was released to the public many found it admirable

Rhetorical Devices In Angelina Jolie Speech
In 2009 on World Refugee Day, Angelina Jolie made a speech about Afghanistan refugees in
Pakistan. Pakistan holds many refugees from Afghanistan who have fled their home country because
of the political and religious conflict there, such as Al–Qaeda and the Taliban. Jolie has made
multiple expeditions to Pakistan to help aid these refugees. In her speech, Angelina Jolie uses
repetition, anecdote, and historical allusion to create an emotional appeal and persuade Americans to
help refugees in need.

After telling the anecdote of the women and two children who gave Jolie the last of their drink, she
says, "Since before the parable of the Widow's Mite it has been known that those who have the least
will give the most" (Jolie 3). The parable of the Widow's Mite tells of a poor widow who gives
everything she had for God. By alluding to the Widow's Mite, Jolie once again reflects upon the
generosity of refugees and those who are in need. By making those listening to her speech once
again think about the generosity of the women giving the last of their drink supplies away, Angelina
Jolie creates a emotional appeal. Jolie uses historical allusion again when she compares what's
happening to the refugees in Pakistan to other situations in the Middle East. Jolie says, "Whether it
be Darfur, Myanmar, or Swat Valley, or some as yet unknown crises, mass migrations will be a
feature of our future..." (Jolie 5). The allusion to the genocide taking place in Darfur, the
displacement of over 139,000 people in Myanmar, and the Malala shooting in Swat Valley gives
examples of other times people like the Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan have been displaced from
their homes. Many of those listening to Angelina Jolie's speech are familiar with the events that she
alludes to and have felt sympathy or even helped those people affected by those situations. By
alluding to those events and comparing what is happening in Pakistan to those events, Jolie creates
an emotional appeal to those listening to her speech by making them feel the same sympathy they
felt for those who were affected by the events she alludes to. Because of the sympathy they now feel
for Afghan refugees, listeners are persuaded to help those

Identity Essay
Identity Most people, unless they choose to be an outsider, want to be considered "cool." Whether
it's to fit in with a peer group, or clique, or to impress someone in particular, like a member of the
opposite sex, or a potential mate. Or possibly to gain something from an individual for financial or
social gain (see "Scamming"). What are the limits of how far you would go to be considered "cool?"
For example, do your beliefs or your religion hold you back or have an effect on the level of
"coolness" you want to achieve? Do you draw the line at wearing T shirts with logos? Maybe you
would wear blue jeans that are "Bedazzled", but not jeans that are pre–bleached in areas? How about

Oh, yeah, slang and vulgarity are often used to make a statement or description a little more
colorful. I don't ever hear "you're an anal orifice", or "eat feces and die", or "fornicate yourself", or
"excrete and fall back in it", although I find them colorful. I do, though, draw the line at maternal
fornication (or paternal for that matter), but it's to my understanding that there are some southern
states where it's distasteful to breed outside of your family. If you're a polygamist, this would still
give you lots of options, eh? I wonder if polygamy is cool? Maybe if you're a Mormon or
something. Who's to say what's cool, and what's not? I guess it goes back to who you are trying to
impress! What's cool to a Mormon may not be considered cool by a cannibal, and vice versa. And
what kind of fashion accessories would be considered cool at a nudist camp? Maybe body
piercings? (Ouch, that's just wrong!) Whatever floats yer boat! I don't think I'd put a lot of effort
there. So cliques and peer groups are the main reasons people to want to be cool. I know, because I
just said so. And that's the same psychology the media uses to "sell" people on "what's cool". There
are a lot of celebrity news programs and the "E" channel, telling the viewers "Who's hot and who's
not" or what kind of clothes are trendy, or Jennifer Aniston's hair is the bomb, or Angelina Jolie has
great lips, etc. I think it's a good thing we have Joan Rivers and Kathy Griffin to put their

Abstract
Tattoos have become a popular form of expression in the United States. Originally, tattoos were
common among sailors, military personnel, bikers, prostitutes, and jail–mates. Now, however, the
use of tattoos is increasing among professionals and other people. Why has tattooing become such a
phenomenon in the past decade? Many people feel that it is because people who get tattoos want to
express their individuality, appeal to opposite sex, or rebel against the expectations of society.

Essay about girl interrupted review
One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the "Sexy Crazy
Girl", which we've seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is
not a glamorous subject, but that's not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the
girls in the movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of
them, but it just did not seem realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which
made the care facility look like a youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main
(well known) stars, (Jolie and Ryder) were focal piont. I'll also note that about half the young girls

The movie seems to pay heavy homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in using a character
like Lisa, as she seems at first glance like the young female version of Randall McMurphy. Farther
in, however, we discover that Girl, Interrupted is more aptly described as being completely the
opposite... Lisa really is probably more messed up than anyone else in the ward. Jolie has gotten
plenty of acclaim for her performance here, but I was never really taken in. It seems she's playing
nearly the same sexy–vixen she's played in a few other films already; just this time, she's in a t–
shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It'd be interesting to see Jolie really stretch beyond her
type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun.
I'm also noticing that that's the 2nd time I
referenced another film that is primarly about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film
about mentally ill young women, and

kids to want to become one of the many options stores can transform them into. Walking into a
regular toy store, people generally do not dissect the sexism that lays within the aisles, however,

In an interview US Weekly, the actress claims "She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy.
So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys ' everything. She thinks she 's one of the brothers."
This is a prime example of going against society, and allowing kids to grow up independent and
intellectually choosing who they want to be regardless what of peers, religion, and society may
conclude. Although I too was raised this way, I am now aware that being forced to be part of a
certain group because of something that you where born with is simply immoral. I, like most of the
people I am surrounded by, have fallen victim of being forced to be a gender, and if future
generations can pin point this issue that has gone to far, our future kids will be able to express
themselves in a manner in which they feel liberated, and no longer deemed to be accepted by
society.

Beauty Is Not At The Eyes
"Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart" "True beauty comes from within". The
physical appearance of a person is the first thing another person notices about someone. The
definition of beauty is the combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the
aesthetic senses, especially the sight. People havecome to the conclusion that beauty is about the
exterior appearance, however, true beauty is defined as the way a person acts and thinks. In today's
society, many people feel the pressure in surpassing their physical appearance. Women feel their
hair, makeup, and clothes need to look flawless in order to be around others. Whether they are not
comfortable with their appearance without makeup, or they feel with makeup members of the
opposite sex will take notice, physical appearance is important to people. Often times, men focus on
a woman's physical features rather than her true beauty on the inside. Many individuals in today's
world need to re–evaluate their outlook on beauty. True beauty lives within the way a person acts
and feels. True beauty is not only found in people, but also in little actions and things in nature. We
often take the natural beauties we see everyday for granted. Although not everyone may like snow
or rain, frosty snowfalls and cool rain showers are one of natures many beauties. Rainbows are
another example of nature's beauties. True beauty is defined as the way a person acts or thinks.

Angelina Jolie Stereotypes

  • 1. Angelina Jolie Stereotypes The first advertisement, posted in W Magazine, perfectly relates to Arnold's cultural theory. Printed in black and white, the photograph pictures a young, slim brunette model styling nothing but a fur coat on a city sidewalk (Fig. 1). The photographer directly draws inspiration from the chaotic, dangerous city streets, as Arnold previously mentioned, by showing the model hanging like a rag doll with a chain around her neck. The title of the fashion spread, "Little Darling," is ironic, yet effectively compares the helplessness of a mentally ill person to that of a child. While she models a provocative, sexy outfit and intriguingly gazes into the camera, her posture is both childish and helpless. The advertisement is both intriguing and disturbing, ... In the first advertisement, the model fully embraces and dramatizes the weakness and femininity associated with suicide. In the second advertisement, Angelina Jolie is pictured glaring out the window holding a knife pointed to her chest. Although she alludes to suicide, it is clear in her demeanor and expression that she feels in control of her own destiny. In this case, the photographer, George Holz, shows Jolie using fashion as a way to take control of her identity, demonstrating that suicide does not have to be associated with weakness and helplessness. He specifically draws attention to the actress' breasts, which are centered in the photograph and really emphasize her femininity. He parallels her aggressive and strong expression with her feminine features, something that is not done in the rest of the fashion advertisements. While the majority of advertisements romanticize the frail and helpless woman, Holz romanticizes the bold woman, challenging the notion that suicide and emotional instability are intertwined.. Once again referencing back to Hawton, this advertisement encompasses all of the criteria likely to cause an increase in suicides. It is both graphic and dramatic, the method is clearly displayed, it does not make any reference to history of mental illness and it is published in People Magazine, which has the largest audience of any American magazine. Unlike the first advertisement, it uses a celebrity to further capture the audience's attention, increasing the odds of imitative suicides. Stack's research "Celebrities and Suicide: A Taxonomy and Analysis," looks at the differential identification theory in order to understand why celebrity suicides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Angelina Joliee : A Career Of Actress As A Film Actress Angelina Jolie Film Actress, Model, Producer, Activist, Actress, Director By: Gabby Beale Angelina Jolie is one of Hollywood's most known actresses. Leading in movies like "Salt" and "Maleficent." She's one of Hollywood's highest paid actors. Jolie was born in Los Angeles, California, June 1975. She was always a joyful little girl, she would dress up and play improve while her brother would record her. Meanwhile, she suffered from depression. While living in New York at the time, her parents were separated when she was only 6 months old. Her father being the actress Jon Voight managed to be very wealthy, but he failed to pay child support and saw Jolie and her older brother occasionally leaving their mother in money trouble. She was bullied in school and when they moved back to California she grew to be a rebellious teenager. She was a self–cutter (people who cut themselves to relieve stress between the age of 7 to 24) and started doing drugs. One time she cut herself so deep, she had to be rushed to the hospital. That was sort of wake up call for Jolie. Later in 1986 she dropped out of Highschool to attend Lee Strasberg Theatre and film Institution in West Hollywood, California. There she learned the method of acting, how to feel the emotion of characters by getting in touch with their painful memories. Acting pulled Jolie out of this dark place in her life. She later went back to Highschool where the bullying continued. Jolie says " I didn't feel clean or pretty" pg.17. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Presidential Election Of The United States On September 26, 2016, 84 million people tuned in to the most watched debate in American history (Battaglio). 84 million of the 135 million people who are estimated to vote in the United States' 2016 presidential election fulfilled their citizen duties on becoming aware of the candidates' policies in order to make an informed decision when voting happens in November (Battaglio). About 60% of estimated voters watched the raw debate so where will the rest of the voters get their information from? They will most likely watch the morning or evening news the next day but the problem is that the news will not be covering the hard facts of the debate. They will be talking about how many times Trump interrupted Clinton, Clinton's 'robotic' answers, and possibly even update us on Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce. The viewers will miss out on being informed about important issues such as tax policies and wage gaps that Americans face everyday. They are going to be informing us on things that grab our attention, things that will raise their viewership and make them more money. News outlets are now entertainment driven. As Al Gore points out in The Assault of Reason, the idea of celebrification of the news negatively affected our public sphere in 2007 and continues to harm the public sphere today. As a result, the public sphere is worse off today than in 2007. Our Founding Fathers broke our government into three branches: executive, legislative and judicial, with the hope that ... Angelina and Brad's relationship was not confirmed until she was pregnant with their first biological daughter, Shiloh (Morton p. 267). Many have speculated this was due to the fact that Brad Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston just a few months before, but they have both denied this (Morton p. 148). Angelina has a total of six kids now, three biological and three are adopted from foreign countries. Jolie's first child was named Maddox who was adopted from Cambodia (). Jolie and Pitt continued to adopt, later adopted Zahara from Ethiopia (). "Brangelina" went on to adopt Pax, from Vietnam. In 2008, Angelina gave birth to twins, Vivienne and Knox in Nice, France (). Jolie has stated that adopting children has always fascinated her. She states, "I'm drawn to kids that are already born. I think some people are meant to do certain things, and I believe I'm meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically." () This shows the softer side of Jolie that many of us are known to. Many can observe from this that she is greatly involved in humanitarian work and has become less of a rebel and more of a role model. After several years of acting and building her family, Jolie has gone to direct her own films. Jolie's first film she directed was "In the Land of Blood and Honey", a movie set in Bosnia about a couple in love on opposing sides of war. () I felt that Jolie chose to direct this film to shed light on the issues going around in the world and that these stories need to be heard. She went on to be nominated for a Golden Globe for the category of best foreign film producer. • 5. The Similarities between Angelina Jolie and Beowulf Essay Throughout time, heroes have stereotypically been described as men who possess qualities such as courage, strength, leadership, and determination. Certainly, many of these characteristics have changed as time has passed. In modern society, heroes can simply be average people who sacrifice their own happiness for the welfare of others and do their best to create a change in the world. Beowulf, an extraordinary warrior in the Anglo Saxon period, is an epic hero because of his pride, strength and courage. He fought many battles in order to protect the Danes from chaos. Angelina Jolie, like Beowulf, is a hero because she defeats every impediment to help and fight against inequality. Heroes do not wait still in one place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He did not give up while fighting with the brawny monster Grendel, even though Grendel "clutched at [him] with his claws" (Beowulf 428). According to Milena Veselinovico, the author of "leading women," Angelina Jolie has risked her life to protect refugees in many countries in Africa. She went to Sudan during a tremendous conflict and Chad during the civil war. She could have been assassinated, but her thirst of justice could not be sate easily; she kept helping no matter the circumstances. In able to be a hero, one must be internally strong to triumph obstacles life brings and never back down when conflicts arrive. Heroes often combat injustice to win equality and peace. Beowulf saves the Danes by fighting the monster Grendel, but Angelina Jolie saves refugees by fighting the figurative monster of inequality. In the mead hall, the place the Anglo Saxon warriors celebrated their battles, everyone was terrified to fight Grendel because he was powerful and seemingly undefeatable. Beowulf fought the abominable beast and obtained the glory of tranquility for the Danes because he wanted to "live in greatness and courage" (368–369). Angelina Jolie keeps fighting with the invincible monster of inequality that is happening in some parts of Africa and gives part of her fortune to refugees who suffer from hunger and persecution. A hero does not need to fight a monster, sometimes the injustice is the monster itself. As time has passed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Patient Will See You Now HMO Book Report Poster: The Patient Will See You Now Summary: The book, The Patient Will See You Now, by Eric Topol, withholds an extreme amount of educational value and discusses how the vast world of medicine can combine with the ever– expanding world of technology to make things such as medical information, diagnoses, treatments, and even prescriptions at our fingertips. This book takes the point of view from Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist who is trying to better the world of medicine while increasing the convenience of it at the same time. The goal that Dr. Topol is trying to establish is that in this day and age, there is absolutely no need for one to have to wait so long to see a doctor. In fact, why should the general population have to wait what feels like hours in a waiting room, or even days for an appointment to be made when everything can be presented right in front of us? Medicine is advancing at such a fast rate that now scientists and doctors can find cures to diseases in a matter of months, or sometimes even days after they are discovered. Since we have such high advances in the fields of science and medicine, people all over the world (more than just doctors and nurses) should have access to know what these diseases do and how to cure them the second that they are discovered. This concept seems something that would be nearly impossible to achieve, but thanks to breakthroughs in new technology and silicon, this dream can surely turn into a reality. ... Surprisingly to the therapist's knowledge, the girl's blank face–expression had survived all these years; and from the looks of it, things hadn't changed, if not stayed the same all together. Some may even say that in such events, things may always seem to take a different turn into the same direction: misery. In New York, in the office of therapist, Dr. Versanti, dreadful memories were uncovered. What Is Angelina Jolie Developmental Biography DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles, California, to actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. Angelina had a troubled childhood, the result of growing up with an estranged and famous father and a mother who, despite her laissez– faire parenting style, used her daughter as a vehicle through which to live out her own dreams of stardom. For the first year or so of Jolie's life, she was kept in a white office five floors above her mother's apartment and tended by a rotation of babysitters (her mother finding her too similar– looking to her just–run–off husband). There were days when her mother would not visit. Psychiatrists speculate that Angelina's mother became unhinged after her husband was discovered to be cheating on her while Angelina was just a babe in arms. Growing up, she didn't like being hugged. During an interview with London's Mail, she said: "Growing up, I had a thing about people hugging me, even my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meanwhile, Angelina's mother was encouraging her daughter to formalize her divorce from her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting, and consulting astrologers on the likelihood of her marrying Jagger. Finally, just as Jolie's relationship with Billy Bob Thornton was beginning, Jagger succeeded in publicly making out with Jolie at Toronto's Sky dome during a Stones concert, in the middle of which he called her backstage and presented her with a cashmere sweater (Morton, ... • 10. Cultural Spropriation : According To Adaption And Cultural... What is the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation? Cultural appropriation is the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you fully understand or respect a certain culture. Cultural appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of the culture. Modern cultural appropriation is not offensive because it showcases the culture in an inspirational aspect. As of 2017, it has become a trend to become easily offended or play the victim. Celebrities play a major role in this controversial subject. As celebrities have taken over social media platforms, people have been quick to call them out over every little social media post. Some people who are more sensitive to this kind of subject are constantly trying to find ways to call out these celebrities. However, not all of these celebrities are trying to offend a certain individual or group. Some of them are actually paying respect to the culture, because of the way they are properly portraying and representing it. For example, when Angelina Jolie visited Pakistan to aid the victims of flooding, she wore a hijab out of respect for the culture. Yet, the others are representing them in an objectifying way. For instance, Heidi Klum dressed as a Hindu Goddess for Halloween in an objectifying way. They may not be trying to offend anyone, but the perspective is different when it is targeted at people of color. According to Adaption and Cultural Appropriation by Pascal Nicklas and Oliver Lindner, "Appropriation in this sense is beyond the legalistic understanding locating it in the vicinity of "plagiarism" (Nicklas and Lindner, 6). Celebrities have been notorious for appropriating cultures for decades. For example, in 2008, Heidi Klum dressed up as a Hindu Goddess for her Halloween party. The problem with that was that her costume was graphic and objectifying a religion practiced by millions. Let's look at cultural appropriation through a different aspect. Let's say that Bob worked really hard on a coat, and it contained a lot of deep, significant value that only pertained to him or a small group. The coat was significant to Bob because it represented the oppression his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How I've Improved My Speaking Skills and Giving Speeches Since my first speech, I have improved my speaking skills by creating better introductions in my speech, getting my script done earlier and being more confident during the speech. I've learned that one of the keys to grab audience's attention and to get a good reaction is an interested introduction. Also, I recognize that if my final draft done earlier before the presentation day, my script would be better with more time to complete my revision. However, for my first speech, I didn't practice and memorize enough and my performance indicated that. But with every speech after that, my practice got better and it make my speech flow smoothly. In addition, I've improved in using notes card during my speech. For my first speech, I can't memorize all the speech so I rely on my note cards so much. But after that I immediately start to practice. I try to practice from my note over and over again. Then, I start to look at the script less and less until I feel confident about my speech. For example, in a small group presentation, I've improved my presentation skills in memorizing the presentation. I can remember all the speech and I know what's on every slide. I never have to pause my speech or to look at the script. This technique gives me the benefit of having my presentation flow easily without having to memorize it word by word. However, I've some mistakes to improved and still need to works on which are grammatical errors and pronunciation. Although I'm not native speaker of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Wesley was in training he got beat up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. David Marshall states "The close scrutiny that is given to celebrities is to accentuate the possibility and potential for individuals to shape themselves unfettered by the constraints of a hierarchical society" (246). Therefore, celebrities are seen as role models for a lifestyle that might never be fully attainable by the average person, but can be imitated. Havisham Throughout her professional acting career, Angelina Jolie has played the "evil character" in various movies, making her the ideal casting choice for Miss. Havisham in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. After being jilted at the altar minutes before her wedding, Miss. Havisham isolates herself from the outside world, locking herself in the Satis House. Using her adopted daughter, Estella, she hopes to seek revenge on all male sex. Jolie plays Maleficent, a vengeful, evil queen, in the movie Maleficent, and Lisa Rowe, an impulsive sociopath who resides in a mental institution, in the film Girl, Interrupted . In both roles, her character takes a sudden twist, turning from a sweet, loving girl to a cold hearted and aggressive freak. Similar to Miss. Havisham, who has not changed out of her wedding dress since the incident, Maleficent's physical appearance reflects her creepy personality. Her cruel actions are driven by a petty excuse – not being invited to a princess' christening. As Lisa Rowe, Jolie plays an unfiltered, manipulative and self–centered sociopath. Rowe's brutal honesty, self–interest, and controlling personality are similar to Miss. Havisham's, which makes Angelina Jolie the perfect actress for Miss. Havisham. Throughout the whole novel, Miss. It is apparent that all the girls in the movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it just did not seem realistic. • 28. Tattoos And Cultural Identity Tattoos are a very prominent piece of several individual cultures across the world today, but they are not always intended for cultural traditions. Tattoos can stand as a means for remembrance, a means for identity, and to some, a means to separate those who are willing to permanently portray something that they are passionate about. The author of Tattoos and Cultural Identity, a photo essay about cultural identity, shares many pictures centered around the topic of tattoos in relation to culture. The author is logical in their approach to a topic, describing the cultural background but not the motives, and despite the lack of emotional bias, there is still an air of compassion for the people portrayed in the photographs. The eight photographs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If someone were a part of a New Zealand tribe, lived through the hardship of Auschwitz–Birkenau, fought alongside friends in Iraq, or joined a gang, they may find more appeal to this than someone who watched a movie with Angelina Jolie in it. That is not to say that Angelina Jolie's tattoos are any less appealing and important to the other people shown, but the experience behind her tattoo meaning is not significant to this particular essay. This is not to reprimand those who have emotional attachments to their tattoos, but this essay has more emotional appeal to those who have experienced the pain portrayed in people's tattoos. The author does not portrays their own emotions, rather the author provides a channel to spur emotional responses from their audience. It also shows a level of commitment and emotion to have an image permanently tattooed onto your skin, but it can also be a reminder of oppression turning into redemption. • 29. The Similarities Of Mother Teresa And Angelina Jolie Who do you look up to? Many different people are considered an inspiration for many different reasons. When looking at Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie, you may not immediately see a whole lot of similarities. The things that come to my mind when I think of them is their fame or popularity, their way of inspiring thousands, and the controversy behind their names. Their popularity may be the biggest thing they share. They are hugely known all around the world, although their popularity may be more well known to more past generations compared to the newer ones. Mother Teresa is known for her catholic religion and her devotion to it. When she was just eighteen she felt the desire to become a missionary, in September 1928 she took off to fulfill that dream. On May 24, 1937 she made her final vows to her religion and after that she was called Mother Teresa. She traveled the world spreading word of love and her religion. She's helped many in need, this is how she got her popularity. Angelina Jolie began her study of theatre at age eleven, five years later she started modeling and was in a few music videos. Her big launch into fame was in 1999 in the movie "The Bone Collector". As you can see they made their way to fame in two pretty different ways, but they actually are well known for one thing in common. They are both humanitarians. Angelina Jolie became interested in humanitarian work after her first adoption from Cambodia in 2002. She adopted three kids overall, and shares three with her now divorced husband, Brad Pitt. Mother Teresa became dedicated humanitarian work after her final vows. Both were born and raised with influence in their legacies. With fame comes inspiration. Both women traveled the world, although for different reasons both gained knowledge from their travels. Mother Teresa met many in need of help while spreading the word of love from Jesus. If you look up Mother Teresa it is likely you will find the webpage dedicated to her, on this page you will find many testimonies from lots of people, whether they knew her personally, admired her, or were helped by her. She has lived a life devoted to her religion, and when her question of faith was released to the public many found it admirable and saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Rhetorical Devices In Angelina Jolie Speech In 2009 on World Refugee Day, Angelina Jolie made a speech about Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan. Pakistan holds many refugees from Afghanistan who have fled their home country because of the political and religious conflict there, such as Al–Qaeda and the Taliban. Jolie has made multiple expeditions to Pakistan to help aid these refugees. In her speech, Angelina Jolie uses repetition, anecdote, and historical allusion to create an emotional appeal and persuade Americans to help refugees in need. Angelina Jolie uses repetition multiple times in her speech to create an emotional appeal to those listening. After telling the anecdote of the women and two children who gave Jolie the last of their drink, she says, "Since before the parable of the Widow's Mite it has been known that those who have the least will give the most" (Jolie 3). The parable of the Widow's Mite tells of a poor widow who gives everything she had for God. By alluding to the Widow's Mite, Jolie once again reflects upon the generosity of refugees and those who are in need. By making those listening to her speech once again think about the generosity of the women giving the last of their drink supplies away, Angelina Jolie creates a emotional appeal. Jolie uses historical allusion again when she compares what's happening to the refugees in Pakistan to other situations in the Middle East. Jolie says, "Whether it be Darfur, Myanmar, or Swat Valley, or some as yet unknown crises, mass migrations will be a feature of our future..." (Jolie 5). The allusion to the genocide taking place in Darfur, the displacement of over 139,000 people in Myanmar, and the Malala shooting in Swat Valley gives examples of other times people like the Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan have been displaced from their homes. Many of those listening to Angelina Jolie's speech are familiar with the events that she alludes to and have felt sympathy or even helped those people affected by those situations. By alluding to those events and comparing what is happening in Pakistan to those events, Jolie creates an emotional appeal to those listening to her speech by making them feel the same sympathy they felt for those who were affected by the events she alludes to. Because of the sympathy they now feel for Afghan refugees, listeners are persuaded to help those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Identity Essay Identity Most people, unless they choose to be an outsider, want to be considered "cool." Whether it's to fit in with a peer group, or clique, or to impress someone in particular, like a member of the opposite sex, or a potential mate. Or possibly to gain something from an individual for financial or social gain (see "Scamming"). What are the limits of how far you would go to be considered "cool?" For example, do your beliefs or your religion hold you back or have an effect on the level of "coolness" you want to achieve? Do you draw the line at wearing T shirts with logos? Maybe you would wear blue jeans that are "Bedazzled", but not jeans that are pre–bleached in areas? How about shoes with tassels or curled up toes? Can you be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oh, yeah, slang and vulgarity are often used to make a statement or description a little more colorful. I don't ever hear "you're an anal orifice", or "eat feces and die", or "fornicate yourself", or "excrete and fall back in it", although I find them colorful. I do, though, draw the line at maternal fornication (or paternal for that matter), but it's to my understanding that there are some southern states where it's distasteful to breed outside of your family. If you're a polygamist, this would still give you lots of options, eh? I wonder if polygamy is cool? Maybe if you're a Mormon or something. Who's to say what's cool, and what's not? I guess it goes back to who you are trying to impress! What's cool to a Mormon may not be considered cool by a cannibal, and vice versa. And what kind of fashion accessories would be considered cool at a nudist camp? Maybe body piercings? (Ouch, that's just wrong!) Whatever floats yer boat! I don't think I'd put a lot of effort there. So cliques and peer groups are the main reasons people to want to be cool. I know, because I just said so. And that's the same psychology the media uses to "sell" people on "what's cool". There are a lot of celebrity news programs and the "E" channel, telling the viewers "Who's hot and who's not" or what kind of clothes are trendy, or Jennifer Aniston's hair is the bomb, or Angelina Jolie has great lips, etc. I think it's a good thing we have Joan Rivers and Kathy Griffin to put their ... • 35. Essay about girl interrupted review One popular cultural myth about the mentally ill is the archetype of the "Sexy Crazy Girl", which we've seen in movies, comic books, and music. Losing your grip with reality is not a glamorous subject, but that's not what you get from Girl, Interrupted. It is apparent that all the girls in the movie had some type of dysfunctional personality, and bad things happen to some of them, but it just did not seem realistic. First off, most of the patients prtrayed were young, which made the care facility look like a youth home rather than a mental institution. but only the main (well known) stars, (Jolie and Ryder) were focal piont. The movie seems to pay heavy homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in using a character like Lisa, as she seems at first glance like the young female version of Randall McMurphy. Farther in, however, we discover that Girl, Interrupted is more aptly described as being completely the opposite... Lisa really is probably more messed up than anyone else in the ward. Jolie has gotten plenty of acclaim for her performance here, but I was never really taken in. It seems she's playing nearly the same sexy–vixen she's played in a few other films already; just this time, she's in a t– shirt, and occasionally gets tied to a bed. It'd be interesting to see Jolie really stretch beyond her type; maybe in a Jane Austen movie or playing a nun. Overall, Girl, Interrupted feels like a movie that could've been rawer, more intense, and more confrontational... ie, a lot less Hollywood. I found myself wondering what this adaptation of Kaysen's book would've been like if it had been done on a shoestring budget with unknown young actresses and a fledgling director. Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade, the short film by Billy Bob Thornton that led to the film Sling Blade came to mind. I'm also noticing that that's the 2nd time I referenced another film that is primarly about men, not women. Maybe we need an excellent film about mentally ill young women, and ... • 38. Beauty Is Not At The Eyes "Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart" "True beauty comes from within". The physical appearance of a person is the first thing another person notices about someone. The definition of beauty is the combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. People havecome to the conclusion that beauty is about the exterior appearance, however, true beauty is defined as the way a person acts and thinks. In today's society, many people feel the pressure in surpassing their physical appearance. Women feel their hair, makeup, and clothes need to look flawless in order to be around others. Whether they are not comfortable with their appearance without makeup, or they feel with makeup members of the opposite sex will take notice, physical appearance is important to people. Often times, men focus on a woman's physical features rather than her true beauty on the inside. Many individuals in today's world need to re–evaluate their outlook on beauty. True beauty lives within the way a person acts and feels. True beauty is not only found in people, but also in little actions and things in nature. We often take the natural beauties we see everyday for granted. Although not everyone may like snow or rain, frosty snowfalls and cool rain showers are one of natures many beauties.
