Design Thinking Action Lab 2013
I hated college (the learning aspect)!
It was just a big game!
The professors were arrogant and petty!
A series of jumping through hoops!
I felt brow beaten to be a certain way!
B/c I was different, I wasn't valued!
The market for my field was over stated.
You have to fit your interests into one
discipline and learning style.
I wanted to get my MBA but couldn't pass the GMAT.
I'm no slob, I had a 3.7 GPA and can read five
books in a weekend.
Its a big system, with a narrow learning style,
lots of hoops, and road blocks.
It still makes me feel bad (and sad)
about myself.(!)
Before I went I looked all over the country
for a more interesting
educational experience but there just wasn't anything 1998(!)
The best thing about school was the connections I made.
HAs transistioned out of field studied.

Schools have too much power to limit students
Difficult/ineffective learning environment
Inappropriate values are modeled (Some people are
okay and some people aren't)rather than a diversity
is good approach.
She seemed to value her education and degrees
She would have choosen a different program if it
would have been available
She wanted an MBA (but wasn't allowed in the program)
She went to college as a way to be successful in life
She has continued learning and seems to have concluded
that schools is just about the degree--that's all.
Her education represented:
Disappointment
Loss
Shame
Debt
And yet, she viewed it as a bridge,
a burning bridge, but a bridge to a new place
nonetheless.
The best way to redesign the school,
degree, job transition is to
1. Change the learning environment.
2. Re-evaluate/enhance testing tools
3. Institute "diversity rocks" values
4. Inter/multidisciplinary studies
5. Free form larning
6. Free form program
