- 20. Open Forum I don’t teach any of your currently endorsed services. Would I still be able to be listed on your website? A: As of today, you will only be able to create an account and not a profile. However, you WILL be able to create a profile next week which will allow you to get listed on our marketplace. We will send follow up emails next week with more instructions. We encourage you to be one of the first teachers in other service categories to be ahead of the game! Can my current information be transferred to TakeLessons? A: At this point, we won’t be able to transfer any information from your Betterfly account to your TakeLessons account. You can feel free to copy/paste any of your profile information. Can I provide classes or group lessons? A: Our platform currently doesn’t set up group lessons. Additionally, our marketing is geared to private lessons only so students would be confused.
- 21. Open Forum Can I list my studio/school/gallery on your website? A: You can certainly list it as a location for in-studio lessons. However, every teacher will need an individual profile so we can process the background check.

- *Back in 2006, Steven, our founder, CEO and fierce leader, had an idea that would make a positive, lasting impact on million s of people and that was to connect teachers and students. *The idea started back in the day when Steven was part of a band. He saw the constant struggle that his fellow band mate, Enrique, had to get new students and handle the scheduling. Steven was also scammed by a vocal teacher he found online who only taught him one lesson and then never returned Steven’s calls, loosing the money he paid for the lessons. *Both of these experiences inspired him to create TakeLessons

- *Now let’s talk about how we work for you! *First things first, teachers create a profile which gets listed on our website for students to find. The profile will list all teaching preferences. *From here, we take care of the marketing efforts and booking process. Students can book lessons online or via phone. All lessons are prepaid to ensure that you can get paid. *We will send you a notification email once a student has paid for lessons. You will then need to contact them and iron out all scheduling details. *From here, once the lesson occurs, teachers need to mark the lessons as we don’t assume that all lessons happen as scheduled. Marking lessons is what ultimately triggers you pay. At this point, we will deduct our 25% service fee. *Last but not least, you will then get paid via EFT only every Friday for lessons marked the previous week.
- *As mentioned before, you can start creating an account now! *To do so, please go to your betterfly portal*During the account set up, you will be able to customize your settings. As of today, we only support services in Music, Performing Arts and Academic Tutoring. HOWEVER, make sure to add any unsupported services since we will be supporting all services come next week! We will be sending you more details soon!*Whether your teach supported services or not, you will be able to add private students. Feel free to do so to start checking out our great scheduling tools! During the process, make sure you invite your students to activate an account to give them access to the student tools too! Please note that we protect your client’s privacy and will not contact them to take lessons through us. We are respectful of your private students.
- *Once you have created an account, you will then be able to create a profile to get listed on our website!*You will first need to review our policies: 25% service fee off whatever pricing you select, pass a background check (the form is online for your convenience). To review all policies please visit our Help Center. *Next, on to the fun part: creating your profile! Please note that we can only list individual profiles for private lessons. Also, your profile doesn’t automatically go live since we need to run a background check. Best case scenario, your profile goes live within 24 hrs.
- *Now, we want to share some tips on how to optimize your profile to increase your changes to get a new student! *Remember, profiles are the window to your teaching business! As with any introduction, First impressions DO matter. *Make sure you give your best effort in representing your professional self to the best of your ability.
- *The first thing that we recommend you focus on is adding reviews to your profile. *As with any marketplace, reviews build trust and in our platform, they increase your chances to get leads for potential students. *We recently run some research regarding best profiles in our platform and discovered that the more reviews on the profiles, the higher the changes of booking students! *As a min. we recommend to start with 4 reviews. *Anyone can leave a review for you this includes colleagues, friends, former and active students. *The review link to share with anyone is on your profile.
- *Now let’s talk about your profile picture. *when someone runs a search on our site, they see a list of all teachers and your photo is in a thumbnail size, meaning that it was to be clear to stand out from the crowd. *going back to numbers (because we love numbers!), we recently compared these two profile pictures. As you can see, our teacher to the left (who by the way is my supervisor’s friend so he was ok with me using him as an example) didn’t have many new students booked with him since his profile pic is not the best. Our teacher to the right on the other hand, had almost double the amount of reviews which gave her 2 new students. *so as you select your photo, please pay close attention to the tips to the right: (mention them)
- *the last piece of the puzzle is the written section. *as a general rule, focus on what you can do for the student and not all of your accomplishments. *make sure to highlight all of the attributes that will help you stand out from the crowd like languages or special certifications*you will be able to add more photos and videos*as a friendly observation, please note that you will not be able to list any personal contact information or free lessons as again, students will need to pay through us before sharing any info
- *As we look to wrap up, we just wanted to remind you that you can add private students to your TL account to manage your whole business from our platform!
