The specific objectives of the project were:
• Improved access to livelihood opportunities by 275 households from marginalized
section by 2008.
• Improved access to technology and financial linkages by 275 target households by the
end of 2008.
• Improved participation of CBOs (Women Groups / Youth Club) in socio-political and
development decision-making at community level by 300 women.

The activities carried out are:
1. Support to target fisher-families in the following trades:
• Fishing
• Local Animal Husbandry and
• Cash crop
2. Formation of 20 women groups
3. Training programmes were conducted in the following areas:
• Skill development training
• Legal Aid training
Problems and challenges encountered:
The challenges faced were in the nature of enabling the target families to undertake
economic development activities as sustainable livelihoods option.
Changes and adjustments, if any, to the original proposal considered necessary to
get maximum results and benefits from the project:
No changes and adjustments to the original proposal had to be made.
Realized Benefits
In completing this section of the report please refer back to the details outlined in your

1. How many people benefited?
275 target families benefited with the following livelihood support:
• The enhanced income for support on fishery is INR 1,200/- to INR 1,500/ on an
average. 100 beneficiaries received support for fishery.

• For cash crop, 100 beneficiaries cultivated nearly 34 acres of agricultural land.
o In 20 acres of land, paddy was grown and the income per acre ranged
between INR 2,700 and INR 3,600 before deducting the cost of
production.
o In 14 acres of land, vegetable was grown and the income per acre ranged
between INR 3,600 and 4,500 before deducting the cost of production.
• For Animal husbandry75 received support.
o 50 beneficiaries were engaged in goat rearing. Each beneficiary received 4
goats. The total number of goats provided to the beneficiaries was 200 and
this size has increased to 300 goats.
o 25 beneficiaries received ducks. Each beneficiary received 16 ducks. Thus
a total of 400 ducks was distributed. The average monthly income has
increase from INR 700 and INR 800.
2. In what way has the project benefited the community under the following
headings? If there has been negative effects these should also be stated and how
it is proposed to address these negative effects:
Reaching the Poor:
• The 275 target beneficiaries belong to the poorest of families in the target
villages. Thus, the project could reach the poor.
Sustainability:
• As the interventions are made to ensure secured livelihoods options and the
options selected are already in practice locally, there is a significant opportunity
for the interventions to be sustainable as one economic cycle was completed with
success.
Levels of Participation:
• Women Groups (WG) and Local Community–based Organizations (CBO) have
been formed to act as project participants. 275 beneficiaries were selected by
WGs and CBOs for livelihoods options of their own choice. WGs and CBOs
monitor the beneficiaries and provide them with encouragement and support.

Gender:
• Major support was given to women as representatives of the target families.
Environment Effects:
• There have been no negative environmental effects as of now.
HIV/AIDS – did the project benefit those living with HIV/AIDS? And if so,
outline those benefits?
During the first (pilot) phase, no person suffering from HIV/AIDS received the
project benefit.
