2. Introduction to MTR
• MTR is an organization that allows children and adults with
mental, physical, or emotional problems or instability to
horseback-ride toimprove self-confidence, strength,
balance, coordination, attention span, and language and
social skills.
• MTR is located between Baltimore and Annapolis,
Maryland on a beautiful 25-acre farm.
3. Founder of MTR
• Maryland Therapeutic Riding was founded by Naomi Parry
in 1996.
• Parry graduated from the British Horse Society as an
approved instructor training course at the Potomac Horse
Center.
• Parry was in a serious car accident that left her temporarily
paralyzed and struggling to recover. She then took up
horseback-riding in college an discovered the horses healed
her physically and mentally.
• Her experience led to the inspiration to found MTR
4. MTR’s Healing Programs
• Therapeutic Riding: Horses are used as a tool to help children or
adults to teach riding skills and help reach individualized goals
• Hippotherapy: One-on-one session under the guidance of an
occupational, physical or speech therapist
• Horses for Heroes: is a specialty therapeutic riding program for
veteran and active duty U.S. military wounded warriors and injured
community-service personnel and their family members
• Horses for Hope: specialty therapeutic riding program for women in
need of emotional assistance
5. Donations to MTR
• MTR gains money through the generosity of individuals,
foundations, and corporations. Each spring, MTR kicks off
the fund raising program with an annual fund solicitation. A
year-end solicitation acts as both a program update and a
request for contributions
• MTR is eligible to receive donations through the Combined
Federal Campaign (CFC) and United Way designated
donations
