2. E-waste:
E-waste is otherwise called electronic waste.
“electronic waste” may be defined as discarded
computers,mobile phone,office electronic
equipment’s,entertainment device
electronics,television sets,refrigeraters etc…
3. The list of e-waste item is very large and can be further
widened.
The countries of the Europeans union(EU) and other
developed countries to an extent have addressed the issue
of e-waste.
The EU defines this new waste stream as “waste”.
4. The quantity of e-waste generated in developed countries
equals 2% of total solid waste on an average and is
expected to grow to 6% by 2016 and is one of the
fastest growing waste stream.
5. The production of electrical and electronic equipment
(EEE) is one of the fastest growing global
manufacturing activities.
This development has resulted in an increase of waste
electric and electronic equipments(WEEE).
Rapid economic growth coupled with urbanization
growing demand for consumer goods has increased
both the conception of EEE and the production of
WEEE.
6. It can be defined as waste equipment which is
dependent on electric currents or electromagnetic
fields to work properly and designed for use with a
voltage rating not exceeding 1000 volt for alternating
current and 1500 volt for direct current.
7. with the presence of deadly chemicals and toxic
substances in the electronic gadgets, disposal of E-
waste is becoming an environmental and health
nightmare.
Globally only 15-2 0percent of E-waste is recycled while
the rest is dumped into developing countries such as
India, China and Nigeria.
