Ramos and ends with El
Domingo de Resurrección

2. El Domingo de Ramos
El Domingo de Ramos
celebrates the arrival of Jesus
into Jerusalem and is marked in
Madrid by various processions.
On Sunday 9th April this year, El
Domingo de Ramos is taking
place. This marks the start of
Semana Santa.

3. El Domingo de Resurrección
This Sunday represents the resurrection
of Jesus from the dead. According to the
New Testament it occurs on the third day
of Jesus’ burial.
The week before this Sunday is
called Semana Santa – it
includes Jueves Santo (Maundy
Thursday) and Viernes Santo
(Good Friday). They are all widely
celebrated across Spain!

4. Traditional Foods
Torrija: Torrija is a sweet
bread that is commonly eaten in
Spain during Semana Santa. They
are first coated in egg then fried.
Then they are sprinkled with cinnamon
to give them that sweet taste!
Buñuelos: first eaten by Spain’s
Moor population, Buñuelos are
sweet balls of fried dough that
are coated with a sweet topping
and filled with something either
sweet or savory!
