The fourth wave is likely to be driven by artificial intelligence . Regarding the new wave that is a step forward in the
information revolution, Yuval Harari, the author of ‘ Sapiens ’ , argued that “the direction will be determined by what
direction humans take to control artificial intelligence . ”
This can also be confirmed in the UN Future Report released last year . This report announced that as science and
technology develop, artificial intelligence and robots will replace people, resulting in the disappearance of 2 billion
jobs and 80% of existing jobs by 2030 .
' Internet of Things , cloud , advanced robots , driverless cars , next-generation genetic maps , 3D printers , new
resource exploration technologies , new renewable energy , and nanotechnology ' were selected as nine new
technologies that will destroy jobs . Beyond the information revolution, it is announcing the advent of the artificial
intelligence era .

12. Medical - AI model for cancer diagnosis & new drug

MS announced on the 7th ( local time ) that it has joined hands with Paige , a leading company in the AI clinical field, to
develop the world's largest generative AI model for cancer diagnosis . This refers to a technology that allows AI , which
has learned a large amount of histopathological examination images , to easily interpret various cancers without a
pathologist having to analyze each biological tissue removed from a patient under a microscope . Page CEO Andy Moye
said , “This model is the largest ever announced, ” and “It is a groundbreaking moment for cancer treatment . ”
MS , previously built an AI basic model to identify breast, colon , and prostate cancer by learning more than 1 billion
images from 500,000 pathological tissues for various cancer types . The two companies that declared cooperation plan
to expand this to up to 4 million pathological tissues and develop an AI model that can diagnose not only common
cancers but also rare cancers by learning billions of data .
New drug development
- The average development period for a new drug is more than 10 years , and the cost is approximately 2 to 3 trillion
won . However , even after spending such a long time and enormous amount of money, the probability of failure is as
high as 92% .
- AI can search more than 1 million papers at once , completing in one day the work that would take dozens of
researchers over 1 to 5 years . Accordingly, experts predict that if AI is used in all stages of new drug development, the
development cycle will be shortened from 15 years to 7 years , and development costs will also be reduced to
approximately 600 billion won .
- AI technology also plays an important role in the clinical trial phase . We present new drug candidates by calculating
compound structural information and in vivo protein binding ability . Additionally , it has the advantage of predicting drug
interactions and reducing trial and error that may occur during the clinical trial design stage.
