1. PRESENT SIMPLE
Use it for:
-Habits, routines: I go to school every day.
-Preferences: She likes milk.
-Always true facts: The sun rises in the east.
Do not = don’t -> I don’t work
Does = doesn’t -> She doesn’t work.
Do + subject + verb inf.? -> Do you work in an office?
Does + she/he/it + verb + inf.? -> Does she work in an
office?
QUASI Question word: Where do…? What size…?
What time…? What colours…?
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
-Adverbs of frequency: always/ Usually/often/hardly
ever/never
On: On Mondays, on Sundays...
Every: Every (day, Sunday, week, summer, year…)
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Use it for:
-What you are doing now: I’m eating an apple.
-Temporary activities: Mary is learning to drive.
-Positive: Subject + Be+ verb + -ing -> She’s having a
party.
-Negative: Subject + Be + not + verb + -ing -> They
aren’t having a party
-Interrogative: Be + Subject + verb + -ing -> Are you
having a party?
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
-Now/right now at 2pm at 9am
-At present/at the moment today
-Imperatives. Look! Listen!
-This: I’m learning French this year
-These: I’m staying with my sister these days.
PAST SIMPLE
Use it for:
Finished actions in the past.
-Be -> was (I/she/he/it) or were (you/we/they)
-Regular verbs: Add “ed”: She visited Tom yesterday.
-Irregular Verbs: Use the irregular past form only in +
sentences: I went to Paris last summer.
-We use “did” to make questions and “didn’t” for
negatives. The verb stays in the base form. Remember
ASI and QUASI
• Did you see Bob yesterday? Where did you go?
• I didn’t go out last night.
• She didn’t visit Ann yesterday
TIME EXPRESSIONS:
-Yesterday before yesterday
-Ago: ten minutes ago, four weeks ago, ten years ago,
etc.
-Last: last Friday, last week, last month, last year, etc.
BE GOING TO
Use it for:
-Plans: to talk about future plans
I’m going to visit Tina tomorrow.
-Predictions: to make predictions based on present
evidence
I can see dark clouds. It’s going to rain.
-Decision-Intention: to express an intention or Decision
(already made) (Future with plan)
Tim is going to accept the new job.

LIKE (+ VERB + -ING)
Use it for: like, love, don’t mind, and hate.
I like going to the cinema.

PRESENT PERFECT I’ve been to Italy. My sister has gone to Italy to study Italian.
Use it for: an action in the past with a result now or
when we talk about a time from the past until now.
subject +has/have + past participle
I’ve lost my glasses. (I can’t find them now)
I’ve been to Spain, but I haven’t been to Portugal.
In your life (ever/never)
We use: subject + hasn’t/haven’t + past participle for
negatives: John hasn’t seen the film.
We use: has/have + subject + past participle for
questions: Have you seen Jane today?

today, ever, never, for, recently, long time.
