1. The Pay Gap
Between Men and
Women in the UK
and Beyond
By Guelimanuel Grullon
2. What Is a “Pay Gap”
A pay gap is when 2 different kinds of people don’t receive
the same pay whilst working the same job. The differences
in the pay gap might be minimal, whilst in other cases, like
the men and women pay gap in the United Kingdom, it can
be up to $20,000 per year in a pay gap.
4. The Paygap
As shown in the picture in the right, the pay gap
could be from 5,000 Pounds, or about $6,600 or up
to 16,000 Pounds, or about $21,400! With that pay
gap, a male could earn enough to buy a brand new
car! Although the average in the UK is about by
8,840 Pounds, or almost $12,000, you could buy a
whole lot of stuff with that amount of money

5. Has Anyone Tried Something?
Yes, many people have protested in many places, but since
the United Kingdom has got it the hardest, you’ll see many
of the protests in the UK.
6. The Early Protests
The protest on the right was from
the 1960s in London. Most of the
major protests of the UK are from
London, since that’s where the
biggest pay gap is. Here we see
many women with posters that
says “EQUAL PAY NOW!” or
something similar.

7. Wiktor Szymanowicz
Now is a good time to talk about my photographer, Wiktor
Szymanowicz (I have no idea how to say it, even
researching for a few months). He takes many different
kinds of photos, but the ones that interested me a lot were
the ones on the UK pay gap. He takes very high quality
pictures, and portray the moment extremely well.
8. Mind the Gap
“Mind the Pay Gap” is based on a very famous London
Underground (subway) phrase “Mind the Gap,” when
there’s a gap between the platform and the train. This
phrase is very much used in a lot of United Kingdom
protests, not only in London. They also use other phrases
like “Close the Pay Gap” and “Close the Gap” all using the
London Tube roundal.

10. Labor Protests
Many labor unions and colleges all over the UK has also gotten
into the pay gap protests. These protests are started by these
labor unions and have their own phrases. The SEIU, or the Service
Employees International Union, has a phrase saying “Livable
Wages For ALL” and the UCU, or the University and College
Union, has “Strike for Education.” Since college isn’t free, most
people needs to go to part time jobs. The pay gap really hurt
them and forces them to take out a student loan, which takes
years, if not decades, to pay off. (UCU is the only non-UK picture

12. Old And Young
Alike
The old, the young, and the
middle aged women could
suffer the same problem of
pay gaps. As shown in the
right, all kinds of women are
shown, different races and
ages. This shows that all
women, no matter what,
could earn less than a male.

13. #MARCH4WOMEN
The #MARCH4WOMEN
march takes place on March
4th, every year. They
normally take the problems
of rights of an average
women, like a pay gap, and
place them in a big protest.

14. My Takes On Equal Pay Rights
Even though I can’t do things on my own, especially in this
pandemic where I rarely go out, I’m going to try and raise
awareness of this. I’ve made some digital pictures to show the
current conditions of pay gaps. The picture on the left is called
Dream To Go Up, and the picture on the right is called 2 working,
1 earning.
