2. Traditional methods and Commercial
methods
According to our survey, Commercial and
Traditional methods both are good at their
own place on the basis of demand in
market and farmer’s profit. Traditional
farmers of Phagwara region near LPU,
generally follow the old and traditional
methods to analyse the maturity indices
irrespective of nutritional quality of fruits,
their main focus on high production with
minimum output along with maximum
profit. Farmer of Phagwara distribute their
fruits to local “sabji mandi or fruit market”
directly from field with any processing.
But in case of
Commercial level, main focus is on
Nutritional value, Appearance , Quality of
fruits and minimal processing is applied to
enhance the shelf life of fruits. Example:
Wax coatings, use of appropriate packaging
material. For commercial level, the main
target of population is in large scale, they
supply the fruits directly to super markets
and the price are usually high as compare
to traditionally harvest fruits.
