1. What are Sealants?
Physical barrier on the occlusal surface.
Prevents caries in the pits and fissures of teeth.
Target newly erupted posterior teeth.

With and Without Fluoride
4. Clinpro™ Sealant
What is Clinpro™ Sealant?
Clinpro™ Sealant is a preventive pit and fissure sealant with
the following characteristics:
Light cure
Fluoride release
Unfilled
Syringe dispenser or bottle dispenser
Color-change from pink to white during cure
5. Clinpro™ Sealant
Color-change Technology
Makes pit and fissure sealant application easier
Pink color is easier to see while applied.
Syringe applicators make direct application easy to handle
with less waste than unit dose.
Unfilled viscosity flows easily into pits and fissures and
requires less occlusal adjustment.
11. Clinpro™ Sealant
General Technique
Sealants are very effective and can be long lasting.
Technique is the primary reason for sealant failure.
– Grooves not thoroughly screened and cleaned
– Application contaminated.
– Difficult to isolate.
– Patients are usually young children.

Research
Loved the syringe dispensing system.
Half the evaluators noticed less bubbles.
High percentage rated flow of sealant from syringe at the
optimum level.
Almost all (94%) said sealant stayed where they applied it.

29. Adper™ Prompt™ Self-Etch Adhesive
and Clinpro™ Sealant
Benefits
Simplify your sealant technique by eliminating
the phosphoric acid etch step.
“From the standpoint of time savings, lowered
complexity of treatment, and decreased challenge
of patient management, the self-etching adhesive
method of sealant application has a significant
advantage over the traditional method”.

Results: Conditioning enamel with 3M™ ESPE™ Adper™ Prompt™ Adhesive, followed by applying sealant and light-curing,
resulted in significantly less leakage compared to conditioning with phosphoric acid before sealant application.

Adper™ Prompt™ Self-Etch Adhesive
is the “only” self-etch adhesive that will
simultaneously etch dentine, cut enamel
and “uncut” enamel
34. 1. Brush adhesive onto surface to
be sealed; scrub for 15
seconds applying moderate
pressure.
Do not shorten this time. Proper bonding will not
occur if the solution is simply applied and
dispersed.
Preparation: 1. Thoroughly clean grooves to remove plaque and debris from enamel
surfaces and fissures.
2. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry.
Note: Do not use any cleaning medium that contains oils or fluoride. Prepare adhesive according to
dispensing instructions.

Application
35. 2. Use a gentle stream of air to
thoroughly dry the adhesive to a thin
film. A second layer is not
required for bonding sealants.
3. Apply a light-cured sealant. (Note:
Adper Prompt self-etch adhesive is
not indicated for self-cure sealants.)

WHITE when cured.
37. FLUORIDE VARNISH
Clinical findings “ support the efficacy of the semi-
annual topical application of fluoride in the
prevention of caries in primary teeth.”
Children with high caries rates may receive greater
benefits from fluoride varnish
Fluoride varnish arrests interproximal dental caries in
the dentin of adult teeth.
38. Fluoride Varnish Application
Apply two or more times a year (3-6 mos)
Sticky yellow semi-liquid containing 5%
sodium fluoride mixed with alcohol for quick
drying
39. CARE OF VARNISHED TEETH
Brush off the next day
Stay away from hard or chewy foods or
gum on tx day.
No other fluoride day of tx
