The Finder Expatpreneur Awards 2019
1. About The Finder Expatpreneur Awards 2019
Two years ago, The Finder debuted its first-ever Expatpreneur Awards to honour foreign-born
entrepreneurs running successful businesses in and from Singapore. All of our 50 Expatpreneur
Awardees thus far have shown admirable vision and drive. They’ve also had one more thing in
common: Their brands help people “live well in Singapore” – The Finder’s core mission.
As the longest-running publication for expats in Singapore – started by two British expats
in 1993 to provide trusted business listings to fellow foreigners – The Finder was founded on
entrepreneurship and is still committed to serving Singapore’s diverse community.
For its third edition of the awards, The Finder is again assembling a panel of esteemed
judges, to include researcher, author and Singapore University of Social Sciences senior lecturer
Dr. Yvonne McNulty, who is credited with coining the term “expat-preneur” in 2015.
The Finder plans to make the 2019 Expatpreneur Awards rewarding for all participants.
However, six lucky winners will each earn a Special Award. (Curious to know more? Check out
our Nomination and Judging Criteria and watch the “Meet the Judge” video that follows.)
All awardees will be included in a 14-page feature in the magazine (Issue 298), and
presented with an award at The Finder Expatpreneur Awards 2019 event in May 2019. This
initiative will be backed by a marketing and publicity campaign starting in March, including
online, video and social media content plus branding, and judging and pre- and post-event
publicity.

To be selected to be an Expatpreneur Award nominee, business founders or owners must meet
the following criteria:

currently living in Singapore.
● At least one of the businesses must operate in or from Singapore, though it can have

and/or subsequently expanded to other countries.
● Said business must be an original concept; not an existing franchise founded or co-
founded by someone other than the nominee.
● If the original business (as described above) has been subsequently sold to a new
owner or owners, at least one of the new owners must be an expatriate and the
business must earn a taxable income (see next).
● The business must be registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory
