The survey results provide insight into audience preferences for different elements of a thriller film. Respondents indicated that music and sound most affect their emotions. Darkness and blood were commonly noticed visual elements. Being followed was viewed as the creepiest storyline element. This informed the filmmakers' choices for their thriller opening, helping them feel confident that their selections around a vulnerable female character, use of romance, and storyline of a girl alone in a dark alley would appeal to audiences. The survey supported the creative decisions and validated the filmmakers' initial ideas.

This question was allowing us as a group, to see
what affects people’s emotions the most. This was a
psychological question, as usually what effects your
emotions the most, effects what you remember the
most in the film. By the results we can conclude that
choosing the correct music for the scene is
important, as it affects the whole atmosphere for the
scene. This becomes more important in the editing
stage, and it will most certainly be used.
A) A girl on her own, down a dark alley, with no phone reception.
B) A busy school, strongly related to our character, obviously hiding

considered using. We had already decided on
choice A, but we were comparing our choices,
and allowing the audience to have there
input. Luckily choice A won. But it was
interesting to see the results, as choice B was
not far behind. And choice B could be seen as
a completely different sub-genre of thriller
compared to choice A.
5. A) A vulnerable teenage girl and teenage boy
B) An older Man or Woman
C) A family
D) Children (12 and below)
6. This question is also closely related to our choices, for our
thriller opening. It was again, used to support our
choices, but also see what other people thought. I tried
to use a range of characters, and situations. A is our
choice, which also won. Giving a confidence boost,
allowing us to believe we are making the correct choices,
and appealing to our audience!
A) Yes
B) No
This question was one that was slightly dead. And if
I were to do it again, I would phrase the question
differently. We are using romance in our production,
but to an extent which affects the audience’s views
on the character. The romance is being used to
make the audience feel sorry for the character and
gain sympathy for her.
A) Being Followed
B) Death
C) Serial Killers
D) Gangsters and Weapons
E) Extraterrestrial life
F) Other
Another question in support of our final ideas! I
thought of a range of choices that may be
considered ‘creepy’. I chose to do this, as I
wanted to see what the audience found most
creepy, and trying to connect it the one of the
first questions, which asked which sub-genre
the preferred. Choice A won again, which is
also evidence that we are on the correct path,
for making an appealing thriller opening.
