A Good Movie Essay
Everyone life has been affected by a movie. Walt Disney said that "Movies can and do have
tremendous influence in shaping young lives in the realm of entertainment towards the ideals and
objectives of normal adulthood". According to Google a movie is "a story or event recorded by a
camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture". All this
is good, but what is a good movie. I say that a good movie has a good script, acting, and keeps you
interested. Every movie need a script, but a good movie needs a good script to match. The script is
the one of the essential factors in making a good movie. The script is going to make or break the
movie because that is what you're hearing for two hours. You can't have your movie going to
theaters or to the itunes store without a good script. When it has a bad script it makes the movie hard
or unbearable to watch because the actors sound like they aren't really invested in the story they're
telling and you will notice. It doesn't matter if it is an $200 million studio tentpole film or a $25
million movie about a crazy old lady named Madea, if the script is bad there is no difference. At the
end of the day your movie can be hard to watch if the script is bad, but if the acting is bad i don't
know what to tell you. When you watching a movie, you have no choice but to experience different
kind of acting. The acting in a movie is an important factor in deciding whether or not the movie is
good or

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty
Capital punishment has been around for centuries taking the life of guilty convicts to bring justice to
the people. However, many people see the death penalty as a brutal action which no human should
have to face, guilty or innocent. After the death penalty travelled around the world, it became very
popular in America leading to many Supreme Court cases and protests. Endlessly, people have
argued their viewpoints about whether the death penalty is constitutional in relation to the 8th
amendment which states no "cruel or unusual" punishment. Politicians from every state including
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, have commented their personal views on the death penalty making it
a very public dispute. Capital punishment is a very popular subject to debate over, and still a very
prominent issue America is facing today. The death penalty has been around since the 18th century
BC, rumored to start by King Hammurabi of Babylon. He once spoke the famous words, "an eye for
an eye", which indicated equal punishments for equal actions. Other countries understood the
wisdom and fairness of his words and adopted the death penalty as their own. The Romans executed
capital punishment in gruesome ways such as, drowning and burning alive. After a few more
centuries, Britain became very pro–death penalty giving it out to crimes such as stealing or cutting
down a tree. Hanging was their main way of execution, and over 100 crimes were eligible to receive
the death penalty. However in the 20th

Commentary On A Police Series Episode Essay
Commentary On A Police Series Episode
The commentary I am going to write about is on a police series called the Bill. The Bill first started
in 1983 and quickly came a national institution, renowned for its real life feel, likeable characters
and accessible short story format but things have changed since then.
It is heading in a new direction bidding for larger audiences by making the Bill an all out serial with
longer running plot lines.
The particular episode I am writing about attracted a whopping 8.6 million viewers and shocked the
nation. In this episode P.C. Des Taviner threw a petrol bomb through his inspector's office window.
The main characters are Sergeant June Ackland. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earlier on that day, Des Taviner placed some counterfeit money into Inspector Conway's memorial
fund. He had also been killed by the racist gang. Taviner was intent on destroying the money so he
decided to throw a petrol bomb into the office. His actions cause 6 other officers to be killed. It was
a shocking spectacle. Later on Taviner claimed someone from the gang climbed the wall and
through the bomb at him. He was cleared for then but the past soon caught up with him.
There was only one officer who saw what Des did but he died in the result of the bomb blast. Most
of the other members of the station were not harmed although some were slightly injured.
The camera angles vary at different points of the scene. If two people are having a conversation then
you would have a medium shot from a high angle. If the shot is designed to focus attention on
someone's facial expression then the camera will have a close up of his face. When Des threw the
bomb the camera would have had a high angle and a close up view to express the size of the bomb
blast. Then would have had a close up of Taviners facial expression. The camera would zoom
slowly to create suspense and climax. This way the audience will be at the edge of their seat. This
sort of scene would be at the end of

Asked to Serve My Country
One afternoon in late November, after Thanksgiving Day. It was an
ordinary day I had my ordinary breakfast; a hard boil egg and an english muffin. As I read my
newspaper "The Minnesota Times" about the murder nearby. As I was getting into the reading about
this murder. I thought to myself what it felt like to get shot. I said to myself "you wouldn't be
screaming or crying you would just have the pain and take it like a normal solider." I felt it in detail,
I felt the dark thick red blood dripping down my legs and all over my body, I felt pain.
I was a curious young man, I thought about the soldiers, who probably get shot every other week. I
always knew they were courageous men. I thought about my great grandfather, and how brave he
was to go out to war, and fight for our country but I never wanted to go out to war that's when I first
started to think about how the war life might be like hard, easy, intense, scary, I don't know. I was
about ten years of age I never had the thought about war, until now. I knew the war was a horrible
scene.
Eight years later that all changed, It was a regular day in little town Austin, Minnesota, I was
finishing up lunch. Then grabbed the keys for my mail box. When I walk outside towards the mail I
felt butterflies in my stomach. I didn't understand why I kept think maybe it was something I ate.
Then it got worst I felt something was going to go wrong. Every step I took down each cemented
stair I felt my hands becoming num, my arms becoming

The Day Of My Day
"WOO–HOO!" MRJEFF exclaimed. He had just found a $100 dollar bill soaked into the ground.
He picked it up and kept walking to work. It was the early morning, the frost was still nipping at his
skin and the sun was barely creeping its way over the mountains to the west. Today MRJEFF felt
surprisingly happy today. Normally he was always unhappy as his full name was MRJEFF Jeff. He
was always being made fun of even as an adult. He arrived at work and all his co–workers greeted
him sarcastically.
"Hey Mr. MRJEFF Jeff" they all said one after another like a broken record. Later that day he left
work and started his walk home. On his way home he saw a homeless man slumped against a red
brick wall off to the side of the road. Unfortunately the only cash he had with him was the $100
from that morning. He handed the bill to the grubby man.
''Thank you so much!" he happily said as he hugged MRJEFF.
"You are very welcome"
"This made my day." MRJEFF then continued on his way home. Stopping periodically to pet dogs,
tie his shoes, etc. He stopped at a gas station and bought a scratch ticket. He pulled a coin out of his
old, worn out, leather wallet and proceeded to scratch the thin silver layer off the stiff piece of
laminated paper. One king, "probably just one of these" he thought to himself. Two kings, "wow,
that's probably all that i'll get." He started scratching the third slot. The first thing he saw was the
shining from the king's gold crown. He was so happy he almost forgot to

Russell Simmons
Russell Simmons has been successful because he turned an idea into an opportunity. Mariotti and
Glackin (2013) states while Russell attend college he saw an opportunity in the underground music
genre Hip–hop (p.154). From that moment on Russell knew he could capitalize off hip–hop. Not
only did Russell take a chance on an opportunity, he formed a great record label with his friend Rick
Rubin called Def Jam Records. However his success did not stop there Russell went on to create a
clothing line, Rush Communications and many other ventures. With his knowledge of street
entrepreneurship and the philosophy of "keeping it real" (p.154–155), Russell Simmons was able to

Russell not only made hip–hop mainstream he gave youths around the world artist they could relate
to such as Run DMC. Run DMC was a good group to market because they stayed true to their roots
and their fashion was part of the hip–hop culture.
Russell marketing advantages did not stop there. He realized that the clothing that the youth were
wearing was making a statement of who they were. It was then Russell created and promoted the
clothing line Phat Farm. Phat Farm is urban apparel that the urban youth embraced because it
represented their lifestyles. By Russell good marketing strategies more consumers were embracing
and purchasing the products that they were becoming familiar with. Further more Russell Simmons
urban roots also gave him an advantage with the youth on political issues. Mariotti and Glackin
(2013) inform readers that in 2002 Russell organized a youth summit at New York City Hall to
protest the then mayor proposal to cut the education budget (p.155). Russell new if he marketed the
event through social media, radio and TV networks he could get the youth attention. Being that
Russell had the information and associated artists such as Jay–Z and Alicia Keys to address the
issues, 20,000 youth showed up to support the cause.
Around 1985 Russell Simmons invested $5000 to start Def Jam Records. However in 1999 he made
the decision to sell his business to Polygram records for $100 million giving him a return on
investments of 2 million

planes. They therefore clearly don't believe a word of what they say and are actually making the
environmental problem worse.
Which one of the following, if true, would best weaken the argument above? Student Answer: Some
of the politicians try to hide the fact that they travel by private plane to their speeches around the
country. Most people who hear the politicians' speeches on the environment are unconvinced by
their arguments. A majority of voters surveyed agree that politicians sometimes make society's

How Does Social Media Affect Women
How and Why Does Media Affect Young Women?
In recent years, social media has flown to increasing popularity. People spend hours scrolling their
Instagram feed "touching up" their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat
stories and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world.
Social media stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people
inspire to be like that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to
their own dull appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to
compare themselves to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these
comparisons bring low self–esteem and a rise in mental illness.
Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen's
mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel
inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a
higher risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon's dispute revolves more towards the negative
body image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with
mental illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so
easily bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye
as seen through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social
media, has made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and
Simmons both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents
should talk to their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way
they are. Rachel Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths
College, argues in her article "How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror" that social media has become a
way for teens to critique themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro–anorexia due
to the increase of "wellness" industries. It has long been understood

Xander J. Carter Research Paper
The state of Virginia, a few miles away from the city of Richmond, there lived a young man named
Xander J. Carter who was about to move out of his parents house. His family lived in Washington
DC. and he was planning to move to Richmond. He was moving to Richmond to start his own life
by himself and to meet up with some old friends. He had saved up enough money from working two
part–time jobs at Mcdonald's and Wal–mart, so he could rent a small apartment. He also made sure
that he would have some money left over to last him a month. Soon after arriving to Richmond he
met up with one of his friends, named George, who helped him move into his new apartment. The
apartment had one bedroom that had a bathroom that was connected to both the bedroom and the
hallway. It also had a kitchen that was connected to his living room. The apartment was located at
the end of the apartment compilation on the second floor. The entrance to the apartment led into the
living room which meant that the bedroom was located all the way in the back. When they arrived at
the apartment they started to move all of Xander's boxes into the living room and from there they

Juvenile Life Without Parole Punishment
Is Juvenile Life Without Parole an acceptable punishment for minors?
As of 2016, 7 states have outright banned Juvenile Life Without Parole, while the rest of the 43
states have laws that allow for it. In recent rulings, this sentencing was seen as unconstitutional in
regards to non–homicidal offenses and a clear violation of the 8th amendment, protecting a citizen
from cruel and unusual punishment, referring to homicidal crimes. It was ruled that this punishment
should not be used unless the minor showed clear signs of irreparable corruption. Studies have
shown that juveniles are incapable of processing thoughts the same way adults do because their
brains are fully developed yet, therefore making them more likely to act purely on impulse, ... Show

The only thing getting rid of juvenile life without parole would do, is allow an offender's case to
reviewed after a period of time, while also taking into consideration the different circumstances and
characteristics of each individual. The reason behind doing this would be to ensure an inmate
honestly needs to be serving the life sentence and it wasn't just something done in adolescence
idiocy, to show they've matured. The suggested time frame is 10 to 15 years, if good enough
rehabilitation has not been showcased, then the individual is to remain in jail and his/her case
looked at again in another few years. While getting rid of juvenile life sentences would be ideal in
most cases, it is a necessary evil in terms of juvenile murders, rapists,

Persuasive Essay About Becoming An Adult
Responsibility
Becoming an adult is a major responsibility for most people. One that can change your life
sometimes for the good, but can also make your life hard for the time being as well. For the past few
months, I had a recent change I turned 18 and got thrown to the wolfs. I had to start taking
responsibility for myself and paying my own bills. Things in my life changed and they changed
quite fast.
Last December, I had gotten my license and bought my first car. Until graduation I would pay for
half of my car insurance. The month I turned 18 I already had a job set for me which I was very
thankful for. But while I was finishing up my last few months of high school it got very hard for me
to balance school and work and my internship for me to graduate. With me having to work almost
90 hours a month, on top of having to get 120 hours of internship work done in at the hospital on top
of all my other school work it was very draining. My Grandma gave me until graduation to save
money and she made sure I knew that she was done paying my phone bill and my car insurance.
Once I graduated things started to get easier and started to get back in to the swing of my life again.
For an 18–year–old $200 car instance bill is a big bill especially when your check isn't that much
every month, plus a $60 phone bill, and gas and whatever things I need to get around the house.
This experience became my permanent white water because I know a few months ago I would
complain about the

California Government Structure Essay
Structure of California's Government
Headed by the governor of the state, the state govt. of CA replicates the Federal govt. It has three
branches that perform their assigned tasks and keep within the limits set by the constitution. These
branches are:
Legislature
Executive
Judiciary
While this division has been created to give structure to the government and ensure its smooth and
effective functioning, there is, more importantly, the need to keep the power of the branches in
check and to make them accountable to each other. There is a system of 'checks and balances' that
comes into play with this segregation of duties and separation of power. This system's inception has
been attributed to Montesquieu. (Wikipedia.org)

Governor's Veto Power: 5
Governor's Institutional Power: 3.2 (3.4 in 2000)
The Governor Rating in the year 2000 placed CA's governor at an overall rating of 3.4 and a rank of
29 among the nation.
What is interesting to note is the rating given to 'Power of the Legislature to Change Governor's
Budget' which was 1 on a 1 – 5 scale in a study conducted by Dr.Thad Beyle. This shows the CA
governor as wielding a certain amount of influence in the legislature's passing of his proposed
budget, Of course, the constitution mandates that the budget be balanced and, if not, then the
previous year's budget remain effective. This already puts limitations and expectations in the
budget's formulation.
Executive Order
Another form of legislation is an executive order. Executive orders as issued by state governors are
not laws, but do have the same binding nature.

Rationalism In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales
The duration of the novels, the characters are seen lamenting their pasts and longing for a future,
ready for whatever seems to be awaiting them. The journey that the pilgrims takes and the stories
they tell attempts to reconcile their purpose for the journey. At the same time they reconcile their
pasts, and not just their pasts but also the past of humanity. The underling issue of the novel is that
the characters are unable to properly grieve for their pasts and it is ultimately recreated in an odd,
intergalactic colonialism that causes a war. To begin, Pearl is a poem that is contemporary to
Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales of which this novel is loosely based on. But Pearl is a dream–
vision/debate poem about a father who laments the death of his daughter. He falls asleep and has a
vision of her as a queen in heaven. They debate about rationalism, but ultimately the debate does not
have a real conclusion that comes to a satisfactory end. The emphasis of the poem is that all things
are rational through faith whether or not the individual understands. There are multiple dialogues
like this in Hyperion. The Bikura have dialogues like this on two occasions, once after they killed
Tuk and again while figuring out what to do with Duré after he snuck off to the Cleft. When Duré
aske why they killed Tuk, they gave no specific answer "'Your companion died the true death. You
did not.' [...] 'Why not? Why didn't you kill me?' [...] 'You cannot be killed because you cannot die,

Short Essay : A Short Story
The feeling of adrenaline rushed through his veins, the pounding sound of his friends chanting for
him do do it, "Send it! Send it! Send it!" rang in his ears. Jacob sat on the seat of his bike,
contemplating his decision. He rode up to the kicker placed on the side of the bridge. It looked to be
about a 15 foot drop to a long, steep trail. He was going do it. He backed his bike up, looked at the
faces of his friends, eager to see something exciting. He started pedaling. The ramp approached
quickly, and the dropped looked smaller than it did when he was scouting it out. He felt the smooth
surface of the ramp as his bike glidded off of it. While in the air he felt invincible, nothing could
touch him. He felt the smooth, cool air glide through his hair, and soon enough he felt the hard,
brutal force of the trail he had landed on. He didn't fall however, but kept on riding. Jacob was about
three seconds into riding down the trail when he saw a large rock in the middle of the trail. He tried
to swerve out of the way but the bike resisted. He squeezed the levers of his brakes for dear life, but
it just wasn't enough. The next thing Jacob knew he was laying in an unfamiliar bed. An unfamiliar
face stared down at him in curiosity "Boy what do you think exactly you were doing on that bridge!
You could have died." The inquiries seem to ring in Jacob's ears. He examined the room, and say
three bodies besides the man questioning him. One was Alex, the tall blond boy, and Noah, the
brown haired shorter boy. Both Alex and Noah were in their teens. The other body was Jacob's
mother, who was sitting in the corner with her hands covering her mouth, a ghostly color plagued
her face. The words "Jacob, are... are you okay sweetie?" Jacob, who had just about come to his
senses replied "Yea, im okay." "Well then, Jacob if you're feeling fine then I think it's time we talk
about something." intruded the man in the white coat standing over him. He introduced himself as

explained that Jacob had suffered multiple injuries from his impact with the rock. This included a

The Outbreak Of The War
The outbreak of the war prompted the formation of numerous women's voluntary organizations, and
a number of women worked to extend women's role. In 1942 defense ministers and others finally
considered to form WAAC to substitute men in the army. The bill took a year to pass. The WAAC
only lasted until 1943 because of the newly founded group WAC. The Women's Army Auxiliary
Corps benefited women's rights, how women got to be accepted in society , and most importantly
what the women did to help make the country stronger. Thanks to the honorable Edith Nourse

They also made mutton broth, beef tea, potato pie, and duff pudding. They even served foods that
are familiar to us today like stew and even curry. The food that women cooked for men on the front
line was often better quality than the food that men ate back home. Men at war consumed 4,600
calories a day. The women cookings in the canteens were told to make the food feed as many men
as possible. They had tricks to make the food more bulk so the men would be more full from smaller
portions. Women would dip bacon and other meats into oatmeal or flour to make it thicker and used
other techniques such as putting old bread into water and baking the bread again in the oven for an
hour. Many women were asked to undertake office jobs. Women received 24 shillings for unskilled
work but up to 48 shillings for jobs which required specific skills like shorthand or typing. One of
the many jobs that had been an unthinkable idea prior to the outbreak of the war was women
working on cars. By 1916 women had been given the task of repairing motor vehicles which had
been broken down. Later they started to work with mechanics to identify what problem it had. They
built rifles, bombs, ammunition and much more equipment needed. The WAAC opened up doors to
jobs that the women wouldn 't usually have. They soon let African American women work in the

Mammy Archetype
All African–Americans have been portrayed in stereotypical roles since their arrival into American
society for the entertainment and amusement of others. Many people find it difficult to appreciate
the diversity of the African American women. So instead of trying to do this, they create identities
based on negative stereotypes. There are several negative stereotypes associated with the African
American woman. The Mammy archetype is the one chosen to be analyzed in this essay. Collins
described the mammy as "–the faithful, obedient domestic servant. Created to justify the economic
exploitation of house slaves and sustained to explain Black women's long–standing restriction to
domestic service..." (72) She is commonly seen trying to soothe ... Show more content on

Mammy is also seen as a very loyal and faithful woman to the one she cares for, but still not
respected.
Like the traditional mammy figure, the modern day mammy is almost always large, asexual, and
wise. One factor that might separate the modern day mammy from the traditional mammy is that the
modern day mammy seems to have a little more attitude or sass. She also comes in many different
skin tones, but still not light skin.
Mabel "Madea" Simmons is a fictional character created and played by Tyler Perry himself. The
character is a tough elderly black woman. Madea gets even, mostly in a bad way. Madea is also
highly overreactive. She is seen willingly threatening the use of deadly weapons, destroying
property, using physical violence, and she loves to take on the law. Because of her overreactive
ways, Madea has repeatedly landed herself in court, anger management classes, house arrest, and
even prison.
Despite some of the negative traits that she does possess, Madea does exhibit the traits of the
Mammy such as: being a nurturer, a caregiver, and a protector, while also maintaining the basic
appearance of a Mammy. Historically, Mammy was shown to have extreme loyalty to the white
family that she cared for and showed devotion towards them while not showing a lot of attention to
her own family, if she even had one at all. Madea does this but in her own way. She has the same
loyalty and dedication but hers is

Descriptive Essay On My Winter Trip
There's nothing better than streaming down a mountain filled with snow, ski tips pointed straight,
and reaching a maximum velocity. For me, an annual ski trip in the mountains is an irreplaceable
event. The only problem with these trips is living in Kansas. At best, I must travel 8 tedious hours
by car to the West to obtain my ideal vacation. And the return trip is even worse because the fun is
over, your body and patience is exhausted, and you understand the long week of catching up on "to
do" lists that will follow. Most often, the excitement of the trip far outweighs the tedious trip home,
but in January of 2013, I might have been convinced otherwise as my trip home was filled with
speeding tickets, car problems, cramped spaces, and almost six extra hours of travel. As my groups
last day of skiing at Wolf Creek Ski Resort came to an end, we went to bed in good time in hopes of
leaving very early the next morning for an equally early return to Newton. As the driver, I was
diligently driving through the twisting and turning mountains with a purpose. For those who have
driven in the mountains before, you are well aware of the difficulties of maintaining a constant
speed through steep grades of terrain. And sure enough, almost 2 hours into our trip home, I see a
highway patrolman make a U–Turn, flip on his lights, and I found myself pulling over my car. Cited

The Death Of The Author By Roland Barthes And Michel Foucault
Throughout many different mediums such as literature and music there have been many
controversial pieces written in regards to the true meaning and purpose of authorship. Several
French philosophers such as Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault have written essays on the
purpose of authorship. Roland Barthes, writer of "The Death of the Author", has a strong belief in
the removal of the author from a piece. Barthes believed that once a book has been written there is
no more author but instead a scriptor and text which are both born simultaneously. Meaning that the
text is a living tissue for the scriptor(reader) to interpret for themselves, leaving a text with multiple
meanings dependent on a scriptors interpretation. On the other hand, French philosopher, Michel
Foucault believed that the author is a key aspect to a written work. He believed that without an
author a work would have no true meaning in essence leaving everything up for debate which
ultimately results in confusion. Foucault also believed that removing the author from a text serves
no purpose and as such, should not be done. Similarly, an author is a very important aspect in music
as well because musicians are able to bridge gaps between them and their listeners through lyricism.
Artists are able to do this by incorporating narratives in their music allowing them to narrate their
lives which may include hardships and difficulties that they have gone through, which allows for
connections to be made between the author and a listener who has gone through the same
experiences. For example, artists such as 21 Savage speak about gang violence and poverty in their
music which allows them to shed light on such issues in order to raise public awareness. The rap
artist 21 Savage, also known as 21, has written many songs which have very deep lyrical meanings
to them. For example 21 Savage wrote the song "Famous" in which he describes his life prior to and
after his rise to fame. In the song 21 Savage discusses how he used to be less fortunate but is now
doing well by stating the following, "Rags to riches, n***a came from the bottom/Hood rats, now a
n***a f***in' on models/Ridin' in the foreign, remember ridin' on MARTA" (21 Savage). In the

The Next Factor Of Public Opinion
The next factor involved was public opinion. Many were for campus carry because they felt as if
they had a "fundamental right" to be able to carry ("Strickland,"2016). Several students and faculty
helped shape public opinion by describing how it would make their college experience a "safe and
better" one ("Fernandez," 2015). Many Texas residents believed that if they were allowed to carry
they could then "prevent mass shooting" ("Fernandez," 2015). This was a main argument of public
opinion. Though many were against campus carry the ones for it worked together to help change the
minds of people who did not believe that guns should be on campus. They did this by describing
that the number of students who would actually carry on campus would "be small" and it would be
"older community college students" ("Fernandez," 2015). Public opinion also helped the bill pass
because Texas is a conservative state with "850,000 license holders" ("Fernandez," 2015). They
wanted to make the public happy by passing the bill because the number of people for it outweighed
the ones against it. The opinion of people such as the "university's chief of police" spoke out about
not being worried because it never had "been an issue" ("Fernandez," 2015). Students believed they
had a right to "self–preservation" and should be allowed to carry ("Strickland,"2016). In the end
Governor Greg aAbbott had listened to people wanting to be allowed to carry on campus and
decided he would make the public happy

The Negative Effects Of Social Media On Body Image
Approximately 80% of U.S. women don't like how they look. The number of women who feel
confident in their body is dwindling quickly and is being fueled by edited pictures they are
comparing themselves to on social media. In the article "How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror" by
Rachel Simmons in Time magazine she tells of the risk for everyone to feel self conscious about
their bodies. However, those most at risk are teenage girls who spend a significant amount of time
on any form of social media. In response to the article, I agree with the information about body
confidence and its negative effects on body image of teenage girls. I also discuss how logos and
pathos strengthen the article and what would make it a stronger and more credible source for
information on teen body image.
In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their
bodies to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for
millennials. The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to compare
themselves to unrealistic versions of the human figure. A world where there are hundreds of apps
that can airbrush everything from waist lines to teeth, teenage girls are having a harder and harder
time separating the ways their body should look and the way media thinks they should look. The
article expresses concern for the rate of which sources of comparisons for teenage girls bodies are
multiplying.

Russell Simmons Research Paper
Many people want to achieve the American Dream by starting from rags to riches and it is a very
difficult journey. You have to make choices that would either be the best or the worst decisions you
make. It is all about taking risk and putting all your effort to keep your business running. Some
people have made it like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and many more entrepreneurs you see on TV or you

family. Growing up Russell was getting in to trouble by being in gang and selling drugs in the street.
He was arrested twice for his bad choices he made growing up in New York. It look to be that if he
continued on this path that he was not going to make out and become successful. He graduated high

Aggression in Middle School Girls Essay
Aggression in Middle School Girls
It was eight o'clock on a cold night in January. Our house rang with giggles and whispers and the
occasional shriek of laughter. In the family room the latest teenie–bopper flick was amusing a crowd
of pajama–clad seventh–graders. The sound of pounding feet from above betrayed that others were
having an impromptu dance party/ pillow fight. The phone book was missing. My little sister, Lily,
was having a sleepover.
Mom had rushed to the store when it was discovered that there was no more ice cream in the freezer.
My father had wisely retreated to the parlor to read. I was in charge. Suddenly, from upstairs I heard
a door slam and raised voices. I gritted my teeth and went to investigate. ... Show more content on

Psychologists and social workers have churned out books, websites, and articles targeting parents,
teachers and girls themselves, offering advice and research on how to handle pubescent girls. While
there are many competing viewpoints, all seem to agree that, contrary to centuries of cross–cultural
social stereotypes, girls are, in fact, naturally aggressive creatures. Unlike their male counterparts,
young girls use entirely different forms of aggression, collectively known as subtle aggression or
alternative aggression.
Every afternoon between Monday and Friday, Lily stalks up the driveway from the bus stop and
hurls open the front door while throwing her book bag across the room. About three out of the five
afternoons she stomps in with a melodramatic sigh and crumples into a chair or Mom's arms,
weeping. Some days it is about her clothes– Erica says that outfit was frumpy. Other days it is about
her size– some girls were giggling in the locker room before gym, it must be because she is fat. Still
other days it is about the math test she aced– Ashley called her a teacher's–pet–know–it–all.
The reason aggression in girls has gone so long unstudied is that it operates on covert levels. Levels
that often only girls can understand. Levels that often girls don't understand. Levels that rely heavily
on knowledge of pop–culture, and fluency in "pop" language. Levels that require expertise in the

Walter Sobchak Should Be Charged Under New York Penal Law...
Question 1: Based on the evidence, Walter Sobchak should be charged under New York Penal Law
125.25, which is murder in the second degree. Upon seeing is wife Meara Ramos, in bed with James
P. Sullivan, Sobchak makes the conscious decision to pick up his firearm, a deadly weapon and
shoot it at Sullivan which reveals his intent to cause the death of another person. Unfortunately, the
bullet ultimately travels outside, hitting and killing Edward Vedder; an innocent bystander. In his
attempt to murder Sullivan; Sobchak, causes the death of a third person. By picking up the gun and
firing it, Sobchak recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another
person, and although it does not harm Sullivan, the intended victim it does cause the death of
another person. Under these circumstances Sobchak, is wholly responsible for the death of Vedder
and liable under 125.25. In this case I can easily envision a defense premised on emotional distress.
The sight of another man in bed with his wife caused Sobchak, to act under the influence of extreme
emotional disturbance. It could be argued that it is reasonable for a "devoted husband" to take this
course of action given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would
not have. However, given the holding in Patterson v. New York, it would fall completely upon the
shoulders of Sobchak 's defense team to prove any affirmative defense, as the prosecution is
required only to prove

A Report On The Bill Of Costs
Good Morning John,
I note from your initial instructions for the above matter that there is a further sum of money that
you wish for me to include in the Bill of Costs. At this stage I am unsure as to what these costs have
resulted from but there are strict rules as to what and how we recover costs and I wanted to briefly
explain the same. If the costs have not been incurred or cannot be claimed under your retainer then
recovering them will not be possible without breaching statutory or regulatory obligations. It is
essential that the retainer is valid for all of the costs you wish to recover as without this validity–
you as the solicitor will not be able to recover costs (JH Milner &Son v Percy Bilton Ltd [1966] 1
WLR).
Your right to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have not informed your client and if there is no contractual right to increase rates in the
retainer then unfortunately we will be bound by what is contractually stated. The costs of the
litigation have been incurred on behalf of the Claimant, the Bill must therefore represent what the
Claimant has 'agreed' to pay to you for your services. We cannot recover any costs that the Claimant
is not liable to pay.
Furthermore, as per the Law of Contract we cannot include costs until you have actually carried out
the work so if the costs you mention are in relation to work you are going to do then unfortunately
we cannot seek any remuneration as the matter has now settled.
____________________________________________
If your instructions refer to including costs relating to work that is not on file then we must ensure
that compliance with the Codes is maintained. If you have done the work then we can include it as it
should be able to be evidenced through the work done and we can justify this to the paying party;
but without evidence the costs will be difficult to recover if they come into dispute. The Bill needs
to be sufficiently particularised, otherwise costs could be void for inadequate information (Re
Kingsley 1978).

The Rock Johnson Research Paper
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was born on May 2, 1972 in Hayward,
California. He is strongly known for being a WWE wrestler, and an actor for the famous series The
Fast and the Furious and many more. I believe that he is a successful man because he came from
having absolutely nothing to making millions. A lot of people aren't very motivated to actually make
a change in their life, but he didn't give up on himself. That is why I strongly believe that he is
successful; however, he's not only successful by being rich. For example, how many people do you

probably had to see what obstacles he might face while trying to achieve his goal. For example,

Graduation Speech : I Am An Interviewer
In the time I 've been an interviewer (almost a year now), I have kept my eyes peeled for
interviewers who do something somewhat unique, and I remember noticing this program called Get
Cooking With the Stars. More often than not, the show either featured people I had just featured on
my site or those I hoped to eventually highlight, and I was simply intrigued with the whole idea of
pairing cooking with interviews (I do watch Food Network somewhat regulalry after all). Recently, I
had the opportunity to ask the creator and host of this show, Laurie Bell, a few questions, and she
pleasantly agreed to give me some splendid details concerning how she got started in the business,
what some of her most memorable episodes have been, and even a hint at what the future may hold.
RH: What inspired you to pursue entertainment as a career? What kind of training have you had?
LB: In my teens, I was enrolled in etiquette courses and dance training. At a dance recital, I was
approached by a model /talent scout who told me I had great stage presence and to visit her agency.
I had numerous opportunities in modelling and acting. I 've studied with great coaches, directors in
both Vancouver and Los Angeles while developing my career in TV/ Film.

American Values : Family And Education
Most American values include family and education. Yet, when combined it can cause strain,
obstacles difficult to overcome, and stigmas. Being a single parent is not easy. Society says you
should get married first, then have children. They also say, you should find a career path that will
help you support your family. While society has their models for success things don't always work
out as individual's plan, which is why I believe, single parents seeking secondary education need
more assistance for child care. Currently, in Rhode Island child care assistance is offered to those in
a specific training program or working at least twenty hours during the day per week. Child care is
not offered to college students. I can remember when I first started college and I had a young child
and was denied child care because I worked during night hours and the fact that I was a full time
student did not count for anything. Luckily for me, my family and I all sat down to figure out a plan
to make sure I could still continue to pursue my goals. My family was my child care system. This
was very frustrating to me because you have to go through the whole process of applying, wait
about 3–4 weeks just to be denied. I had a wonderful support system that stepped in at a turning
point in my life, but it made me wonder. What happens to those that want to pursue school, have
young children, and don't have people they can depend on or trust? What about the parents trying to
set a good example, but

Struggle Of Family And War
Struggle of Family and War
Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the kids played. But
that didn't last for long. I had to pay taxes for things like sugar and documents and if that didn't put
me into debt then there was the tea act and that angered us all because we already paid tax and now
tea! Even though it is way less of tax I could be a trick. We don 't even get Representation so why
are we paying these taxes! Thankfully we have the Sons of Liberty to show Britain to back off and
we formed a unity with the colonies called the "Committees of Correspondence". But even that did
not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the Committees of Correspondence and what affected me most
was that they forced us to buy the tea and if we didn't they would close the Boston harbor.
My husband says, "we don't need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for the tea and then
get the thing we want." But that is not what I do first of all I need my tea, and second I feel like I
should help the other people to pay for the tea. You thought this was it? Well it's not, there was then
the Townshend act which let british soldiers live in out house and take all of our things. This just got
my family into debt, deep debt.
Today my family still is in debt and I still can't pay it off and now when my two little girls want
something I have to say no, but they don 't cry or throw a fit they just frown and look outside. They

Organizational Behaviour Case Analysis
Case Analysis: Leading Change At Simmons Problem Identification
In the case 'Leading Change at Simmons', the fundamental issue for Simmons Company is whether
or not it should go ahead with Eitel's proposed idea of a culture change program which would cost
$7.2 million at a time where the company is encompassed in a myriad of problems and severe
economic crises'. The program has had initial success but its future profitability still remains largely
uncertain due to high levels of stress and resistance to change found amongst the company's
employees.

To overcome this resistance to change, it is essential that Eitel form positive relationships with his
workers along with good support and commitment. He could do this by encouraging better
communication in the company and educating the management about his plan by communicating
the logic of his proposed changes. If the employees see the full facts and solve the
misunderstandings, resistance should subside. This can be done by allowing the employees to
develop and form the plans to introduce changes with him which would allow for enhanced
participation and acceptance of the change as the employees would have a sense of ownership in the
change made which will make it much easier for them to conform once everyone is on board for the
decision. Eitel should also make sure that all changes are fair to everyone and do not come of as
being biased which could create discrepancies among the workers.
Other than that, he should focus on activities such as intergroup development, which seeks to
change the groups' attitudes, stereotypes and perceptions about each other through training sessions,
which focus on differences among occupations, departments, or divisions within an organization.

The Senate Bill 149 ( Sb 149 )
The Senate Bill 149 (SB 149) signed by Greg Abbot is about relating to alternative methods for
satisfying certain public high school graduation requirements, including the use of individual
graduation committees. This bill gives students a better chance at graduating, although it may or not
be continued results of this bill will have to be processed first. I chose this bill because I believed
that it would be well known also, because it is important to school life which has taken a big turn in
recent years. Education has taken a decline in funding so I think this law may benefit the sudden
drop in funding or perhaps is something the government hopes to be used as an olive branch due to
withdrawal of funding. My first article details who the law effects, and what requirements for
Individual Graduation committees (IGC). One of the effects of SB 149 is, "The law requires school
districts and open–enrollment charter schools to have IGCs for any eleventh or twelfth grade student
who has not passed two out of the five end of the course (EOC) exams at or the end of the eleventh
grade's year" (Seliger). "IGCs need the principal, the teacher of the relevant course; the department
chair or lead teacher supervising the teacher of the relevant course; and either the student's
parent/guardian, or the student if the student is at least 18 years of age or is an emancipated minor"
(Seliger). This is a pretty basic requirement that I believe most organizations involving students

Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to...
Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to overcome in order to be successful. Some
typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less exposure
to entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for traditional
lending, which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but they are less
likely to be considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in run down areas,
with poor schooling and less access to successful people. One entrepreneur who has hurdled over all
the barriers and became extremely successful is Russell Simmons, the co–founder of Def Jam

There hasn't been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip–hops fortune. However,
they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one might think.
So why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because Simmons recognized
the worth of hip–hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural revolution. Def Jam's
started in Rick Ruban's NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only investing a few thousand
dollars each. Their first official release was LL Cool J's I need a Beat. It sold more than 100,000
copies giving Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS Records for distribution. This
deal was the first of its kind for hip–hop. Simmons secured Def Jams future by making clever
decisions that seemed insane at the time, such as pairing Run D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover
of Walk This Way. The video of this duo finally got hip–hop onto MTV, which had a negative view
on rap at the time. Rubin left Def Jam in 1988, making Simmons the sole head of the company.
Simmons also tried his hand in producing movies; his company's name is Simmons Lathan Media.

Sheraz Ahmad VA/US Government Mouser 26 April 2018 Roper v. Simmons The case of Roper v.
Simmons began when a minor, aged seventeen, named Christopher Simmons had commited murder.
Simmons was only a junior in high school when he had committed the murder (Kennedy). He
discussed everything with his fellow students named Charles Benjamin and John Tessmer prior to
the murder (Kennedy). Simmons suggested to commit burglary and murder the victim, Shirley
Crook, by breaking into her house (Kennedy). The very next day, early in the morning at 2 A.M.,
they had met outside of Shirley's house (Kennedy). Tessmer had double thoughts and he left before
the other two went to commit the crime (Kennedy). Simmons and Benjamin entered the victim's
home by reaching through an open window and unlocking the back door (Kennedy). As they
entered, Simmons turned on the hallway light (Kennedy). This disruption would awaken Mrs.
Crook. She had called out for prencen in her home, saying, " Who's there?" (Kennedy). Answering
her, Simmons entered her bedroom. He had recognized her from a car accident that both of them

Rocky's knowledge, experience and great relationship with the community and his customers are the
company's biggest strength as well as being located in a prosperous and developing area. Their
greatest weakness is Rocky's lack of business knowledge because that impacts many areas of the
business negatively. The business's strengths outweigh its weaknesses because the 10 years of built
up reputation and customer loyalty can overcome the weaknesses that are minor in comparison and
could be solved over time. The opportunities are greater than the threats because Rocky and his
business have a lot of areas that can be improved upon and taken advantage of whereas the only
threats that the business face are one current competitor and the prospect of potential competitors in
the future.

camera shots that create feelings of excitement and tension for the viewer.
Music has also changed. The original title sequence (1984) featured reggae style music and used off
beat instruments. This suggested that the programme was based in a multi–cultural area. The music
in the late 80's was more upbeat and faster paced, however it featured the same theme tune. The
music in the mid 90's was jazzy and sophisticated. Music has become more upbeat due to changes
of personalities in society. However the theme tune has remained the same in order for people of
different times to identify the programme as a long remaining classic.
The storylines of each title sequence have also changed over time. In the original title sequence we
do not see the police's face. This indicates that the main emphasis of the programme is on the job of
the police rather than their characters. The slow moving music and camera shots convey the sense
that the programme does not feature dangerous crimes but simple crimes such as theft or burglary.
However the late 80's title sequence shows clips of

Roper V. Simmons Case Study
Roper vs Simmons was considered a landmark case in 2005 in which the Supreme court chose that
it is unconstitutional to impose the death penalty for crimes that have been committed while under
the age of 18. The decision was not unanimous, but was a very close 5–4 voting. The voting
overturned a previous ruling that the death penalty cannot be enforced for those who are under the
age of 16, but 16 and older can receive capital punishment.
Christopher Simmons who at the time was a 17 year old boy who had planned a murder with two of
his friends. Charles Benjamin and John Tessmer were the two other kids that Christopher got into
his plan to murder Shirley Crock. The plan of murder was confessed by the boys during court. The
plan was to break into Shirley's house and bound her hands and legs. Next the plan was to take her
to the local bridge and throw her off the bridge. That was the plan that the three boys had made.
When the three boys met during the middle of the night Tessmer dropped out and left. The other two
continued the plan and carried out exactly as it was planned and drowned Shirley Crock by throwing
her off the bridge.
During the case the evidence was not lacking. They had loads of evidence, confessions, a video tape
reenactment, and a testimony from Tessmer. The two boys were found guilty and sentenced to the
death penalty by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simmons case there have been two other cases involving the death penalty. Though they are
different they Roper vs. Simmons case could have sparked a national urge in court to make
everything about the death penalty unconstitutional, which Base vs. Rees case they tried arguing
that even lethal injection and any form of the death penalty should be banned since it was violating
their eighth amendment. This did not follow the previous track record with winning the appeal. The
Supreme court decided that lethal injection is constitutional and does not inflict any unnecessary or
lingering pain to that receiving

different perspective of what self–portrait present. In fact, based on my own experience and the
experience of classmate, I cannot deny the boost in confidence level that selfies bring. People, who
were often unexpressive and distrustful of their own positive trait in the real world, often finds their
worth through selfies.
This is the case of Samuel Ngure presented in his personal response. Ngure talked about how one
selfie changed his whole mindset and how he viewed himself. He was bullied throughout
elementary and middle school because of his race, skin color and his physical appearance. At first,
he was a little hesitant to take self–image with his friend, Nick. He begged his friend not to post the
selfie on social media but the next morning, it was on his newsfeed. He was afraid to look at the
comments, but as he read the responses he was amazed at the positive feedbacks that the picture
received. Because of this experience, he is comfortable with his skin tone and not only that it boost

A Good Movie Essay

  • 1. A Good Movie Essay Everyone life has been affected by a movie. Walt Disney said that "Movies can and do have tremendous influence in shaping young lives in the realm of entertainment towards the ideals and objectives of normal adulthood". According to Google a movie is "a story or event recorded by a camera as a set of moving images and shown in a theater or on television; a motion picture". All this is good, but what is a good movie. I say that a good movie has a good script, acting, and keeps you interested. Every movie need a script, but a good movie needs a good script to match. The script is the one of the essential factors in making a good movie. The script is going to make or break the movie because that is what you're hearing for two hours. You can't have your movie going to theaters or to the itunes store without a good script. When it has a bad script it makes the movie hard or unbearable to watch because the actors sound like they aren't really invested in the story they're telling and you will notice. It doesn't matter if it is an $200 million studio tentpole film or a $25 million movie about a crazy old lady named Madea, if the script is bad there is no difference. At the end of the day your movie can be hard to watch if the script is bad, but if the acting is bad i don't know what to tell you. When you watching a movie, you have no choice but to experience different kind of acting. The acting in a movie is an important factor in deciding whether or not the movie is good or ... • 2. Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Capital punishment has been around for centuries taking the life of guilty convicts to bring justice to the people. However, many people see the death penalty as a brutal action which no human should have to face, guilty or innocent. After the death penalty travelled around the world, it became very popular in America leading to many Supreme Court cases and protests. Endlessly, people have argued their viewpoints about whether the death penalty is constitutional in relation to the 8th amendment which states no "cruel or unusual" punishment. Politicians from every state including Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, have commented their personal views on the death penalty making it a very public dispute. Capital punishment is a very popular subject to debate over, and still a very prominent issue America is facing today. The death penalty has been around since the 18th century BC, rumored to start by King Hammurabi of Babylon. He once spoke the famous words, "an eye for an eye", which indicated equal punishments for equal actions. Other countries understood the wisdom and fairness of his words and adopted the death penalty as their own. The Romans executed capital punishment in gruesome ways such as, drowning and burning alive. After a few more centuries, Britain became very pro–death penalty giving it out to crimes such as stealing or cutting down a tree. Hanging was their main way of execution, and over 100 crimes were eligible to receive the death penalty. However in the 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Bill first started in 1983 and quickly came a national institution, renowned for its real life feel, likeable characters and accessible short story format but things have changed since then. It is heading in a new direction bidding for larger audiences by making the Bill an all out serial with longer running plot lines. The particular episode I am writing about attracted a whopping 8.6 million viewers and shocked the nation. In this episode P.C. Des Taviner threw a petrol bomb through his inspector's office window. The main characters are Sergeant June Ackland. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earlier on that day, Des Taviner placed some counterfeit money into Inspector Conway's memorial fund. It was a shocking spectacle. Later on Taviner claimed someone from the gang climbed the wall and through the bomb at him. He was cleared for then but the past soon caught up with him. There was only one officer who saw what Des did but he died in the result of the bomb blast. Most of the other members of the station were not harmed although some were slightly injured. The camera angles vary at different points of the scene. If two people are having a conversation then you would have a medium shot from a high angle. If the shot is designed to focus attention on someone's facial expression then the camera will have a close up of his face. When Des threw the bomb the camera would have had a high angle and a close up view to express the size of the bomb blast. Then would have had a close up of Taviners facial expression. The camera would zoom slowly to create suspense and climax. This way the audience will be at the edge of their seat. This sort of scene would be at the end of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Asked to Serve My Country One afternoon in late November, after Thanksgiving Day. It was an ordinary day I had my ordinary breakfast; a hard boil egg and an english muffin. As I read my newspaper "The Minnesota Times" about the murder nearby. As I was getting into the reading about this murder. I thought to myself what it felt like to get shot. I said to myself "you wouldn't be screaming or crying you would just have the pain and take it like a normal solider." I felt it in detail, I felt the dark thick red blood dripping down my legs and all over my body, I felt pain. I was a curious young man, I thought about the soldiers, who probably get shot every other week. I always knew they were courageous men. I thought about my great grandfather, and how brave he was to go out to war, and fight for our country but I never wanted to go out to war that's when I first started to think about how the war life might be like hard, easy, intense, scary, I don't know. I was about ten years of age I never had the thought about war, until now. I knew the war was a horrible scene. Eight years later that all changed, It was a regular day in little town Austin, Minnesota, I was finishing up lunch. Then grabbed the keys for my mail box. When I walk outside towards the mail I felt butterflies in my stomach. I didn't understand why I kept think maybe it was something I ate. Then it got worst I felt something was going to go wrong. It was the early morning, the frost was still nipping at his skin and the sun was barely creeping its way over the mountains to the west. Today MRJEFF felt surprisingly happy today. Normally he was always unhappy as his full name was MRJEFF Jeff. He was always being made fun of even as an adult. He arrived at work and all his co–workers greeted him sarcastically. "Hey Mr. MRJEFF Jeff" they all said one after another like a broken record. Later that day he left work and started his walk home. On his way home he saw a homeless man slumped against a red brick wall off to the side of the road. Unfortunately the only cash he had with him was the $100 from that morning. He handed the bill to the grubby man. ''Thank you so much!" he happily said as he hugged MRJEFF. "You are very welcome" "This made my day." MRJEFF then continued on his way home. Stopping periodically to pet dogs, tie his shoes, etc. He stopped at a gas station and bought a scratch ticket. He pulled a coin out of his old, worn out, leather wallet and proceeded to scratch the thin silver layer off the stiff piece of laminated paper. One king, "probably just one of these" he thought to himself. Two kings, "wow, that's probably all that i'll get." He started scratching the third slot. • 8. How Does Social Media Affect Women How and Why Does Media Affect Young Women? In recent years, social media has flown to increasing popularity. People spend hours scrolling their Instagram feed "touching up" their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat stories and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world. Social media stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people inspire to be like that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to their own dull appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to compare themselves to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these comparisons bring low self–esteem and a rise in mental illness. Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen's mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a higher risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon's dispute revolves more towards the negative body image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with mental illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so easily bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye as seen through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social media, has made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and Simmons both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents should talk to their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way they are. Rachel Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths College, argues in her article "How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror" that social media has become a way for teens to critique themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro–anorexia due to the increase of "wellness" industries. In recent rulings, this sentencing was seen as unconstitutional in regards to non–homicidal offenses and a clear violation of the 8th amendment, protecting a citizen from cruel and unusual punishment, referring to homicidal crimes. It was ruled that this punishment should not be used unless the minor showed clear signs of irreparable corruption. Studies have shown that juveniles are incapable of processing thoughts the same way adults do because their brains are fully developed yet, therefore making them more likely to act purely on impulse, ... The only thing getting rid of juvenile life without parole would do, is allow an offender's case to reviewed after a period of time, while also taking into consideration the different circumstances and characteristics of each individual. The reason behind doing this would be to ensure an inmate honestly needs to be serving the life sentence and it wasn't just something done in adolescence idiocy, to show they've matured. The suggested time frame is 10 to 15 years, if good enough rehabilitation has not been showcased, then the individual is to remain in jail and his/her case looked at again in another few years. While getting rid of juvenile life sentences would be ideal in most cases, it is a necessary evil in terms of juvenile murders, rapists, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Persuasive Essay About Becoming An Adult Responsibility Becoming an adult is a major responsibility for most people. One that can change your life sometimes for the good, but can also make your life hard for the time being as well. For the past few months, I had a recent change I turned 18 and got thrown to the wolfs. I had to start taking responsibility for myself and paying my own bills. Things in my life changed and they changed quite fast. Last December, I had gotten my license and bought my first car. Until graduation I would pay for half of my car insurance. The month I turned 18 I already had a job set for me which I was very thankful for. But while I was finishing up my last few months of high school it got very hard for me to balance school and work and my internship for me to graduate. With me having to work almost 90 hours a month, on top of having to get 120 hours of internship work done in at the hospital on top of all my other school work it was very draining. My Grandma gave me until graduation to save money and she made sure I knew that she was done paying my phone bill and my car insurance. Once I graduated things started to get easier and started to get back in to the swing of my life again. For an 18–year–old $200 car instance bill is a big bill especially when your check isn't that much every month, plus a $60 phone bill, and gas and whatever things I need to get around the house. This experience became my permanent white water because I know a few months ago I would complain about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has three branches that perform their assigned tasks and keep within the limits set by the constitution. This shows the CA governor as wielding a certain amount of influence in the legislature's passing of his proposed budget, Of course, the constitution mandates that the budget be balanced and, if not, then the previous year's budget remain effective. This already puts limitations and expectations in the budget's formulation. Executive Order Another form of legislation is an executive order. • 14. Rationalism In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales The duration of the novels, the characters are seen lamenting their pasts and longing for a future, ready for whatever seems to be awaiting them. The journey that the pilgrims takes and the stories they tell attempts to reconcile their purpose for the journey. At the same time they reconcile their pasts, and not just their pasts but also the past of humanity. The underling issue of the novel is that the characters are unable to properly grieve for their pasts and it is ultimately recreated in an odd, intergalactic colonialism that causes a war. To begin, Pearl is a poem that is contemporary to Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales of which this novel is loosely based on. But Pearl is a dream– vision/debate poem about a father who laments the death of his daughter. He falls asleep and has a vision of her as a queen in heaven. They debate about rationalism, but ultimately the debate does not have a real conclusion that comes to a satisfactory end. The emphasis of the poem is that all things are rational through faith whether or not the individual understands. There are multiple dialogues like this in Hyperion. The Bikura have dialogues like this on two occasions, once after they killed Tuk and again while figuring out what to do with Duré after he snuck off to the Cleft. When Duré aske why they killed Tuk, they gave no specific answer "'Your companion died the true death. You did not.' [...] 'Why not? Why didn't you kill me?' • 15. Short Essay : A Short Story The feeling of adrenaline rushed through his veins, the pounding sound of his friends chanting for him do do it, "Send it! Send it! Send it!" rang in his ears. Jacob sat on the seat of his bike, contemplating his decision. He rode up to the kicker placed on the side of the bridge. It looked to be about a 15 foot drop to a long, steep trail. He was going do it. He backed his bike up, looked at the faces of his friends, eager to see something exciting. He started pedaling. The ramp approached quickly, and the dropped looked smaller than it did when he was scouting it out. He felt the smooth surface of the ramp as his bike glidded off of it. While in the air he felt invincible, nothing could touch him. He felt the smooth, cool air glide through his hair, and soon enough he felt the hard, brutal force of the trail he had landed on. He didn't fall however, but kept on riding. Jacob was about three seconds into riding down the trail when he saw a large rock in the middle of the trail. He tried to swerve out of the way but the bike resisted. He squeezed the levers of his brakes for dear life, but it just wasn't enough. The next thing Jacob knew he was laying in an unfamiliar bed. An unfamiliar face stared down at him in curiosity "Boy what do you think exactly you were doing on that bridge! You could have died." The inquiries seem to ring in Jacob's ears. He examined the room, and say three bodies besides the man questioning him. One was Alex, the tall blond boy, and Noah, the brown haired shorter boy. Both Alex and Noah were in their teens. The other body was Jacob's mother, who was sitting in the corner with her hands covering her mouth, a ghostly color plagued her face. The words "Jacob, are... are you okay sweetie?" Jacob, who had just about come to his senses replied "Yea, im okay." "Well then, Jacob if you're feeling fine then I think it's time we talk about something." intruded the man in the white coat standing over him. • 16. The Outbreak Of The War The outbreak of the war prompted the formation of numerous women's voluntary organizations, and a number of women worked to extend women's role. In 1942 defense ministers and others finally considered to form WAAC to substitute men in the army. The bill took a year to pass. The WAAC only lasted until 1943 because of the newly founded group WAC. The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps benefited women's rights, how women got to be accepted in society , and most importantly what the women did to help make the country stronger. They had tricks to make the food more bulk so the men would be more full from smaller portions. Many women were asked to undertake office jobs. Women received 24 shillings for unskilled work but up to 48 shillings for jobs which required specific skills like shorthand or typing. One of the many jobs that had been an unthinkable idea prior to the outbreak of the war was women working on cars. By 1916 women had been given the task of repairing motor vehicles which had been broken down. Later they started to work with mechanics to identify what problem it had. Many people find it difficult to appreciate the diversity of the African American women. So instead of trying to do this, they create identities based on negative stereotypes. There are several negative stereotypes associated with the African American woman. The Mammy archetype is the one chosen to be analyzed in this essay. She also comes in many different skin tones, but still not light skin. Mabel "Madea" Simmons is a fictional character created and played by Tyler Perry himself. The character is a tough elderly black woman. Madea gets even, mostly in a bad way. Madea is also highly overreactive. She is seen willingly threatening the use of deadly weapons, destroying property, using physical violence, and she loves to take on the law. Because of her overreactive ways, Madea has repeatedly landed herself in court, anger management classes, house arrest, and even prison. Despite some of the negative traits that she does possess, Madea does exhibit the traits of the Mammy such as: being a nurturer, a caregiver, and a protector, while also maintaining the basic appearance of a Mammy. Historically, Mammy was shown to have extreme loyalty to the white family that she cared for and showed devotion towards them while not showing a lot of attention to her own family, if she even had one at all. • 18. Descriptive Essay On My Winter Trip There's nothing better than streaming down a mountain filled with snow, ski tips pointed straight, and reaching a maximum velocity. For me, an annual ski trip in the mountains is an irreplaceable event. The only problem with these trips is living in Kansas. At best, I must travel 8 tedious hours by car to the West to obtain my ideal vacation. And the return trip is even worse because the fun is over, your body and patience is exhausted, and you understand the long week of catching up on "to do" lists that will follow. Most often, the excitement of the trip far outweighs the tedious trip home, but in January of 2013, I might have been convinced otherwise as my trip home was filled with speeding tickets, car problems, cramped spaces, and almost six extra hours of travel. As my groups last day of skiing at Wolf Creek Ski Resort came to an end, we went to bed in good time in hopes of leaving very early the next morning for an equally early return to Newton. As the driver, I was diligently driving through the twisting and turning mountains with a purpose. For those who have driven in the mountains before, you are well aware of the difficulties of maintaining a constant speed through steep grades of terrain. And sure enough, almost 2 hours into our trip home, I see a highway patrolman make a U–Turn, flip on his lights, and I found myself pulling over my car. • 19. The Death Of The Author By Roland Barthes And Michel Foucault Throughout many different mediums such as literature and music there have been many controversial pieces written in regards to the true meaning and purpose of authorship. Several French philosophers such as Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault have written essays on the purpose of authorship. Roland Barthes, writer of "The Death of the Author", has a strong belief in the removal of the author from a piece. Barthes believed that once a book has been written there is no more author but instead a scriptor and text which are both born simultaneously. Meaning that the text is a living tissue for the scriptor(reader) to interpret for themselves, leaving a text with multiple meanings dependent on a scriptors interpretation. On the other hand, French philosopher, Michel Foucault believed that the author is a key aspect to a written work. He believed that without an author a work would have no true meaning in essence leaving everything up for debate which ultimately results in confusion. Foucault also believed that removing the author from a text serves no purpose and as such, should not be done. Similarly, an author is a very important aspect in music as well because musicians are able to bridge gaps between them and their listeners through lyricism. Artists are able to do this by incorporating narratives in their music allowing them to narrate their lives which may include hardships and difficulties that they have gone through, which allows for connections to be made between the author and a listener who has gone through the same experiences. For example, artists such as 21 Savage speak about gang violence and poverty in their music which allows them to shed light on such issues in order to raise public awareness. The rap artist 21 Savage, also known as 21, has written many songs which have very deep lyrical meanings to them. For example 21 Savage wrote the song "Famous" in which he describes his life prior to and after his rise to fame. In the song 21 Savage discusses how he used to be less fortunate but is now doing well by stating the following, "Rags to riches, n***a came from the bottom/Hood rats, now a n***a f***in' on models/Ridin' in the foreign, remember ridin' on MARTA" (21 Savage). Many were for campus carry because they felt as if they had a "fundamental right" to be able to carry ("Strickland,"2016). Several students and faculty helped shape public opinion by describing how it would make their college experience a "safe and better" one ("Fernandez," 2015). Many Texas residents believed that if they were allowed to carry they could then "prevent mass shooting" ("Fernandez," 2015). This was a main argument of public opinion. Though many were against campus carry the ones for it worked together to help change the minds of people who did not believe that guns should be on campus. They did this by describing that the number of students who would actually carry on campus would "be small" and it would be "older community college students" ("Fernandez," 2015). Public opinion also helped the bill pass because Texas is a conservative state with "850,000 license holders" ("Fernandez," 2015). They wanted to make the public happy by passing the bill because the number of people for it outweighed the ones against it. The opinion of people such as the "university's chief of police" spoke out about not being worried because it never had "been an issue" ("Fernandez," 2015). Students believed they had a right to "self–preservation" and should be allowed to carry ("Strickland,"2016). • 23. The Negative Effects Of Social Media On Body Image Approximately 80% of U.S. women don't like how they look. The number of women who feel confident in their body is dwindling quickly and is being fueled by edited pictures they are comparing themselves to on social media. In the article "How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror" by Rachel Simmons in Time magazine she tells of the risk for everyone to feel self conscious about their bodies. However, those most at risk are teenage girls who spend a significant amount of time on any form of social media. In response to the article, I agree with the information about body confidence and its negative effects on body image of teenage girls. I also discuss how logos and pathos strengthen the article and what would make it a stronger and more credible source for information on teen body image. In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their bodies to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for millennials. The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to compare themselves to unrealistic versions of the human figure. A world where there are hundreds of apps that can airbrush everything from waist lines to teeth, teenage girls are having a harder and harder time separating the ways their body should look and the way media thinks they should look. The article expresses concern for the rate of which sources of comparisons for teenage girls bodies are multiplying. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Walter Sobchak Should Be Charged Under New York Penal Law... Question 1: Based on the evidence, Walter Sobchak should be charged under New York Penal Law 125.25, which is murder in the second degree. Upon seeing is wife Meara Ramos, in bed with James P. Sullivan, Sobchak makes the conscious decision to pick up his firearm, a deadly weapon and shoot it at Sullivan which reveals his intent to cause the death of another person. Unfortunately, the bullet ultimately travels outside, hitting and killing Edward Vedder; an innocent bystander. In his attempt to murder Sullivan; Sobchak, causes the death of a third person. By picking up the gun and firing it, Sobchak recklessly engages in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person, and although it does not harm Sullivan, the intended victim it does cause the death of another person. Under these circumstances Sobchak, is wholly responsible for the death of Vedder and liable under 125.25. In this case I can easily envision a defense premised on emotional distress. The sight of another man in bed with his wife caused Sobchak, to act under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance. It could be argued that it is reasonable for a "devoted husband" to take this course of action given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would not have. However, given the holding in Patterson v. New York, it would fall completely upon the shoulders of Sobchak 's defense team to prove any affirmative defense, as the prosecution is required only to prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

RH: What inspired you to pursue entertainment as a career? What kind of training have you had? LB: In my teens, I was enrolled in etiquette courses and dance training. At a dance recital, I was approached by a model /talent scout who told me I had great stage presence and to visit her agency. I had numerous opportunities in modelling and acting. • 31. American Values : Family And Education Most American values include family and education. Yet, when combined it can cause strain, obstacles difficult to overcome, and stigmas. Being a single parent is not easy. Society says you should get married first, then have children. They also say, you should find a career path that will help you support your family. While society has their models for success things don't always work out as individual's plan, which is why I believe, single parents seeking secondary education need more assistance for child care. Currently, in Rhode Island child care assistance is offered to those in a specific training program or working at least twenty hours during the day per week. Child care is not offered to college students. I can remember when I first started college and I had a young child and was denied child care because I worked during night hours and the fact that I was a full time student did not count for anything. Luckily for me, my family and I all sat down to figure out a plan to make sure I could still continue to pursue my goals. My family was my child care system. This was very frustrating to me because you have to go through the whole process of applying, wait about 3–4 weeks just to be denied. I had a wonderful support system that stepped in at a turning point in my life, but it made me wonder. What happens to those that want to pursue school, have young children, and don't have people they can depend on or trust? What about the parents trying to set a good example, but ... • 34. Struggle Of Family And War Struggle of Family and War Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the kids played. But that didn't last for long. I had to pay taxes for things like sugar and documents and if that didn't put me into debt then there was the tea act and that angered us all because we already paid tax and now tea! Even though it is way less of tax I could be a trick. We don 't even get Representation so why are we paying these taxes! Thankfully we have the Sons of Liberty to show Britain to back off and we formed a unity with the colonies called the "Committees of Correspondence". But even that did not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the Committees of Correspondence and what affected me most was that they forced us to buy the tea and if we didn't they would close the Boston harbor. My husband says, "we don't need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for the tea and then get the thing we want." But that is not what I do first of all I need my tea, and second I feel like I should help the other people to pay for the tea. You thought this was it? Well it's not, there was then the Townshend act which let british soldiers live in out house and take all of our things. This just got my family into debt, deep debt. Today my family still is in debt and I still can't pay it off and now when my two little girls want something I have to say no, but they don 't cry or throw a fit they just frown and look outside. The program has had initial success but its future profitability still remains largely uncertain due to high levels of stress and resistance to change found amongst the company's employees. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To overcome this resistance to change, it is essential that Eitel form positive relationships with his workers along with good support and commitment. He could do this by encouraging better communication in the company and educating the management about his plan by communicating the logic of his proposed changes. If the employees see the full facts and solve the misunderstandings, resistance should subside. This can be done by allowing the employees to develop and form the plans to introduce changes with him which would allow for enhanced participation and acceptance of the change as the employees would have a sense of ownership in the change made which will make it much easier for them to conform once everyone is on board for the decision. Eitel should also make sure that all changes are fair to everyone and do not come of as being biased which could create discrepancies among the workers. Other than that, he should focus on activities such as intergroup development, which seeks to change the groups' attitudes, stereotypes and perceptions about each other through training sessions, which focus on differences among occupations, departments, or divisions within an organization. The Senate Bill 149 ( Sb 149 ) The Senate Bill 149 (SB 149) signed by Greg Abbot is about relating to alternative methods for satisfying certain public high school graduation requirements, including the use of individual graduation committees. This bill gives students a better chance at graduating, although it may or not be continued results of this bill will have to be processed first. I chose this bill because I believed that it would be well known also, because it is important to school life which has taken a big turn in recent years. Education has taken a decline in funding so I think this law may benefit the sudden drop in funding or perhaps is something the government hopes to be used as an olive branch due to withdrawal of funding. My first article details who the law effects, and what requirements for Individual Graduation committees (IGC). One of the effects of SB 149 is, "The law requires school districts and open–enrollment charter schools to have IGCs for any eleventh or twelfth grade student who has not passed two out of the five end of the course (EOC) exams at or the end of the eleventh grade's year" (Seliger). "IGCs need the principal, the teacher of the relevant course; the department chair or lead teacher supervising the teacher of the relevant course; and either the student's parent/guardian, or the student if the student is at least 18 years of age or is an emancipated minor" (Seliger). Some typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less exposure to entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for traditional lending, which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but they are less likely to be considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in run down areas, with poor schooling and less access to successful people. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There hasn't been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip–hops fortune. However, they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one might think. So why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because Simmons recognized the worth of hip–hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural revolution. Def Jam's started in Rick Ruban's NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only investing a few thousand dollars each. Their first official release was LL Cool J's I need a Beat. It sold more than 100,000 copies giving Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS Records for distribution. This deal was the first of its kind for hip–hop. Simmons secured Def Jams future by making clever decisions that seemed insane at the time, such as pairing Run D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover of Walk This Way. The video of this duo finally got hip–hop onto MTV, which had a negative view on rap at the time. Rubin left Def Jam in 1988, making Simmons the sole head of the company. Music has also changed. The original title sequence (1984) featured reggae style music and used off beat instruments. This suggested that the programme was based in a multi–cultural area. The plan was to break into Shirley's house and bound her hands and legs. Next the plan was to take her to the local bridge and throw her off the bridge. That was the plan that the three boys had made. When the three boys met during the middle of the night Tessmer dropped out and left. The other two continued the plan and carried out exactly as it was planned and drowned Shirley Crock by throwing her off the bridge. During the case the evidence was not lacking.
