Opting for a solar inverter will bring huge savings for the customer in the long run and is more
reliable during long power cuts.
Are the frequent power cuts irritating you? Do you want to have a reliable power source for your business? Do you want
power at your farmhouse where there is no grid power facility?
Solar inverters are turning out to be saviours in frequent power cuts for domestic and business purposes. Even though, it
takes moderate one-time investment, the less maintenance costs are pushing the customers to look at these inverters as a
viable option. It is very suitable for small houses to huge apartment complexes. For instance, it is viable to have solar inverter
at apartment complex instead of using conventional current.
It may cost around `2.25 lakh for a high quality 1 KW Solar system. It would be nominal investment for each flat holder but
each of them can be free from huge monthly electricity bills, said KSS Kumar, proprietor, Sri Sresti Marketing Solutions.
The solar inverters have a switcher, which will use the grid power when there is unavailability of solar power.
The solar inverter costs 30-40 per cent more than a normal inverter but can easily be connected to a solar panel according to
the need in a later time. Opting for a solar inverter will bring huge savings for the customer in a long run and is more reliable
during long power cuts.
It is better to run heavy power sources on grid power, which would help the customer to buy solar inverter with lower
capacity, thus reducing initial costs, he said.
Talking about the initial costs, he said, buying a solar inverter is a long-term investment. A quality solar panel has a life of
more than 25 years, where as the battery (with one-year guarantee) may work for three years.
The battery life can also be substantially increased by systematic usage of battery life enhancer. The inverter has a life of five
years after which the efficiency levels start dropping.
The customers should go with a branded and reliable company while opting for these inverters and panels.
Many of the manufacturers are using altered broken PV cells in solar panels, which are thrown out as waste in China. The
international price of single photovoltaic cell is $1.6. However, these cells are sold in India at less than a dollar, Kumar said.
These substandard solar panels will decrease the power efficiency. Even, the customer could not find out the intensity of
power that is generated by these panels. Some manufactures may sell the panels claiming capacity of 100w, but they end up
giving only 80w.

The quality of panels is also compromised in numerous ways like decreasing the thickness of the glass or by removing the
lamination that has to be layered on the panel. Thin glass causes the PV cells to heat up fast and damage solar panel, he said.
It is always good decision to buy a solar inverter which can produce more power than actually needed. The customer does
not need to replace the inverter even after five years once the efficiency level drops.
The solar inverter should be only connected to appropriate battery, which will increase the life of the battery and decrease
the maintenance costs of the customer, he added.
