How Do You Know?
A Game of Conscience
Let’s Play…
• For each of the following situations, decide whether the person has made a
good moral decision. After you have decided that, write down HOW you
know it was or was not the right decision based on the Ten Commandments
and other things that Jesus told us in the gospels.
• Good Luck!
A Little Help From My Friends
• Bill has been struggling all year in Calculus. No matter what he does, he can’t
get above a D on a test. He needs to bring up his average so that he can
keep the scholarship offered to him for next year. His friend has Calculus
first period and told Bill that he would tell him what problems are on the
test. Is it okay for Bill to accept his friend’s help? How do you know?
Close Call
• While traveling down the road, Sharna hears her cell phone ring. She sees
that it is her mom. She knows it will be a quick conversation and decides to
pick up the phone without pulling off the road. Is it okay for Sharna to take
the call; since it is only going to take a minute?? How do you know?
Not so “Super” market
While at the grocery store, Jim had to wait in a long line. As he draws closer,
he sees that the cashier is moving very slowly and making lots of mistakes.
When it is finally his turn, Jim makes several snide comments to the cashier
about her slowness. The cashier looks hurt. Is what Jim did the right thing to
do? How do you know?
Money Matters
• Walking down the aisle in Target, Jennifer finds a $20 bill on the floor. Her
companion says, “It is your lucky day!” Jennifer says, “I can’t keep it, it isn’t
mine…” and she takes it to the Service Desk to turn it in. Her friend says
that it is okay to keep money because there is no way of telling who it
belongs to. Jennifer doesn’t agree. Who is making the moral decision? How
do you know?
Good Sportsmanship
• Last Sunday, John had two back to back soccer games. His family usually
goes to mass on Sunday, but they aren’t able to go to their usual mass
because of their busy sports schedules. They decide not to go to mass,
because they don’t want to let down the team and force them to forfeit the
game. Is John’s family making the moral decision? How do you know?
