Editor's Notes

  1. I would start off the presentation by talking about how if you google “Dramatic Arts” the following definition will appear. I will then discuss how this in not dramatic arts for ECE and that dramatic arts delves much deeper in the education of you children. I will discuss how the dramatic arts allow children to express through actions and nonverbal communication what they learned and how they are feeling. I will tell them that dramatic arts is a gateway for self expression and is not limited to an internet definition.
  2. I will go on to tell that drama is not just for enjoyment, but that children gain knowledge and experiences that will help them down the road. Children will gain artistic, intellectual and socially shared experiences encouraging higher order thinking and can help them understand social cues; nonverbal communication.
  3. We can use reader’s theater to bring the butterfly life cycle to class. We can use reader’s theater to talk our way down the number line. We can make non-fiction come to life; not really meant for an audience. Children’s theater is meant for an audience. Parents can help us gather props and set the stage for our classroom productions. The goal of children’s theater is public performance; whereas, reader’s theater is meant to enhance the learning process and children will gain knowledge from there non-fiction lessons.
  4. I will tell the parents that there were so many standards per grade level concerning fine arts, but offer this link they can go visit in their free time. I will tell them that the teks is what teachers use to base their children’s education and must use them in the classroom.
  5. I will close out with letting the parents know that they can use dramatic arts in the house. Act out science homework, place charades to guess a historical figure. As long as the child is being able to be creative and improve their communication skills, there can be no wrong way of doing it.
