The prophet Yunah is instructed by YHVH to warn the sinful city of Nineveh of its impending destruction but initially runs away to Tarshish. After enduring a storm and being swallowed by a fish, he prays for salvation, is delivered, and ultimately obeys YHVH's command to preach to the Ninevites, who repent and are spared from destruction. Yunah, angered by YHVH's mercy towards the city, is reminded of the value of compassion and the importance of caring for others.
