Benedicto Hosea, Founder of Mboni ya Vijana Community Based Organisation from Kigoma, Tanzania, and local rep for Tanzania Development Trust talks about his experiences of promoting entrepeneurship and employment in the small rural village of Zeze where he lives and works.
2. • Zeze is a small village in Kigoma with 9600 residents,
• It is an Ujamaa village founded in 1974,
• 42% are youth (15 – 35 years old).
• Subsistence farming is the major livelihood activity.

4. Microfinance
• Trains youth and women in small businesses
• Provides women small loans of up to £68
• 327 women have benefited so far.

6. Success of the Scheme

house but she has built better house from her
small business profit.
Anjela (left) did not have business before 2016
because she couldn’t access capital. She
started a shop selling shoes, soap, and other
industrial products. She then transferred her
business to Morogoro for a bigger market.
7. Agriculture loan & training scheme
•Provided loans to 155 youth:
• Gave food and Income security
• Improved environment by
reduced shifting farming and use
of kerosene and firewood

9. Borehole Hand Drill and Pump
• Access to water in Kigoma is very bad
• People crowded to ponds and seasonal streams to get
water.
10. Hand drilling & Rope Hand Pumps
We have drilled 32 boreholes since 2016.
This technology gives youth employment and a water
solution to rural areas like Kasulu district.
More than 16,000 people have so far benefitted.

provide more employments,
• Invest in cassava, maize and sunflower
processing factories to reduce loss of crops
after harvesting,
• Increasing irrigation to allow year round
farming
• Lobbying for land use plan.
