Welcome to Civics
You probably have many questions, such as why
is this course mandated, what do you do in
civics?, etc and this guide will hopefully
 answer them all.
Why Do You need to Take civics
Civics is mandated because you need to know
how the system works when you grow up so
you know about your government, your
  politics and the law.
Government
The government unit covers every
thing from elections to passing a law.
This will introduce you to the public
sector vs the private sector. This is
important to learn so you know
where your tax money is going to.
Public vs Private
The Private sector is not paid for by
the government and owned by the
 individual for example stores,
 homes, etc.

The public sector is paid for and owned
by the government such as parks,
 hospitals, etc.
Politics (minority vs majority
           government)
The next unit that you will learn about is the
politics unit. In this unit you will learn
 about minority governments vs majority
governments. This is important to learn
because it teaches you how each type
 works.
Minority vs Majority Government
A minority government is when the party wins
the most seats but has less than 154 seats.

A majority government is when a party gets
elected and have 154 or more of the seats.
Law
The final unit you will learn about is law. In
law you will be learning about the youth
criminal justice act. This is important
because you need to know your rights as
a youth and the consequences for your
 actions.
Youth criminal justice act
When a youth commits a minor crime they
will not be arrested the police will evaluate
what the youth did wrong and bring them
 home or call their parents.
Indirect Democracy in Canada
In Canada we have a form of
  democracy known as indirect
  democracy. Democracy is when
everyone votes on the issues but
Canada is to big for this so we elect
someone to decide who makes our
  decisions (aka the prime minister).
It is important to know where your
  vote goes.
