Refresh Your Working Days with a New Look
Hey associates,
Tired of wearing the old uniform day in and day out? Now we want to try something new to
make your work apparel more comfortable and refresh your days at Walmart.
We will introduce a new dress code, which includes white or navy
collared shirts with khaki or black pants, and closed-toe shoes in
any color. These garments are easy to get. You may already have
one or more in your closet. Whatever style, fabric and color match
you like, wear them at work, as long as they make you most
comfortable. It will be more cozy to visit your friends after work in
your own clothes without a Walmart logo.
An updated Walmart vest will also be distributed to proudly mark
you as an honored member of Walmart in stores. The vest is
optimized to be more lightweight and breathable, with pockets and badge holder. You will
definitely love it.
The new dress code will go into effect on Sept. 29. For more information, please visit http://
www.walmart.com/associatedresscode. All your feedbacks are welcomed. We will continue
making efforts to make Walmart a more comfortable work place for you.
Talking Points
Talking Points for Microscape
• What are Microscape models?
Microscape models are detailed, 1:5000 scale replicas of cityscapes. The customized and
museum-quality models bring the sculptural beauty of the city and your memories of special
places into them. They can be displayed anywhere, and work equally well as stand-alone
decorative objects or in larger clusters.
• Why your team launched the project?
Model building is a big part of architectural education, and practitioners in this field still do that
in practice all the time. Even though today models are mainly built in computers, we still have
great appreciation of physical models that one can really touch. Then we came up with this idea
to apply the tools and techniques we use everyday to producing detailed architecture models of
cityscapes that we think everyone will enjoy.
• Who are the target customers of your products?
Microscape models are for everyone with a deep love for a place. No matter you are a traveler,
a micro-model lover or an architecture designer, the models can serve as decoration, design
tools, and reminders to memorize beautiful places and moments.
• What technologies do you apply to create the models?
Microscape combines our own, highly detailed 3D scan data with manual computer modeling
techniques to create completely customizable scale architectural models. We use a
combination of automated photogrammetry and manual geometry editing. 3D printing and
slicing are handled with a combination of software and hardware that we have selected through
more than a year of intensive trials. As for the material of the models, they are made out of
durable white thermoplastic derived from corn starch, which is non-toxic, biodegradable and
safe to handle.
• What is the future plan for the project?
Our initial and current proving ground of Microscape models is the New York City. But we
actually intend to cover many more major cities across the U.S. and around the world. With the
help of crowd funding on Kickstarter, we might be able to not only offer Microscapes for major
cities, but also customize models for any places that customers have special emotional bonds
with.

A New Era of Virtual Reality
—— CEO of Samsung, Jong-Kyun Shin’s Speech at Gear VR Release Conference
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
When I was 10 years old, I dreamt of being a superhero someday when I grew up. I was so
addicted to the comics and movies depicting men with superpower, who beat bad guys and
save the world. I know many of you may have the same dream as me when you were young,
since we always want to experience another person’s life, a totally different life in our
imagination, even after we grow up as adults. Just like when we watch movies, we pursue a
sense of immersion. We love to imagine ourselves as the leading roles right there in the movie
scenes. That’s why generations of scientists and engineers keep trying to help us feel
physically present in a non-physical world. And today we are able to enjoy the pleasure that
surround sound and 3D technologies bring to us.
After years of effort, a new era of Visual Reality is arrived. VR replicates an environment that
simulates our physical presence in places in the real world or an imagined world. You can
interact with the world in front of your eyes. You can see it, hear it, or even smell it and touch it.
Today, Samsung’s Gear VR is coming to change your sight and your life. After our first two
innovator editions, the latest Gear VR consumer edition is finally available to our mass VR fans.
And believe it or not, it will take you only $99 to take your unbelievable new world back home.
The new Gear VR works seamlessly with six Galaxy smartphone models. All you need to do is
slip in your phone, and you're free to take on the world and beyond. We bring in more
innovative ideas of design, to make the new Gear VR wider and lighter. With a wider interface,
Gear VR is now 19% lighter compared to the previous model. And with its larger touchpad, you
can get easy and accurate control.
For now, there are already more than 200 games and Apps available in Oculus store. And over
1 million hours of movies and 360° videos can be downloaded online. Right now VR is mostly
used for entertainment and games, but it’s evolving so quickly. In near future, it is going to
change the way we live, work and communicate to a large extent.
Speech
Hundreds years ago, it took people months on the sea to travel from Seoul to Los Angeles.
Then after the airplane was invented and commercial aviation was popularized last century, it
only takes 13 hours to fly across the Pacific Ocean. Now, by sitting in my comfortable couch
and putting on my Gear VR, I can get onto a helicopter right away, and appreciate the great
view of Great Canyon below myself.
VR is the future and creates a second world for your life. You can now go wherever you want to
go, whether it is the Great Canyon, the Great Lakes, or the Great Wall. And you can be
whoever you want to be, either Superman, Batman or Spider-man.
Samsung is the pioneer and leader of virtual reality, and we keep making efforts to bring users
more advanced VR experience. Gear VR is a huge step, and it will be the future.
Now put on your Gear VR, and set out your new adventure!
Thank you.

Will Artificial Intelligence Really Threaten Us Humans in the Future?
“I’ll be back,” the T-800 terminator once said so to his human friends. But today, this best-
known line in the movie The Terminator seems to be more suitable for Lee Se-dol, one of the
world’s top Go players. It expresses his resolution come back to win after losing to his artificial
intelligence (AI) rival AlphaGo, which was developed by Google. AlphaGo took a 3-0 lead in a
five-match series of Go game against Lee yesterday.
The match has raised heated discussion about whether AI will threaten human beings in the
future. We have already witnessed how machines, like dishwashers and automatic cashiers,
replaced manual labor. The advances in artificial intelligence cause people to fear that
machines with thinking abilities will replace more workers and result in higher unemployment in
the near future. Moreover, when AI-enabled machines are capable of making their own
decisions and controlling their behavior, will they plan to wipe out the men who once created
them, just like the Skynet in The Terminator?
The real crisis that artificial intelligence will bring to human beings, however, is not robots
conquering and enslaving us, but our over-dependence on those “smart helpers” and the loss
of our fighting spirit. When our basic needs at the bottom of Maslow’s pyramid are met easily,
will we still work hard to pursue more spiritual satisfaction and strive to make a difference?
AlphaGo is regarded as a program that can think and learn like human being, but its processing
speed is uncountable times faster than a human’s. Human brains may fall far behind artificial
intelligence programs in logic calculations and analyses. In the future, those more developed AI
will bring people a more convenient and efficient life, and of course, unprecedented business
opportunities. For example, there will be automatic diagnosis systems in hospitals providing
more accurate and personalized treatment plans, and automatic transaction systems in
investment banks will help investors to achieve higher returns with lower risks.
Although artificial intelligence will become our great helper, we should recognize that the
biggest difference between AI and us is human’s emotions and creativity. Robots cannot
Op-Ed
understand human’s values, emotions, as well as the literature and arts works originated from
those feelings deep inside our mind and heart. AlphaGo did not feel happy after it beat human
players, not to mention that it would not write a song to express its happiness. We cannot
disregard the fact that the thinking and learning abilities of those artificial intelligence programs
are given by humans, and AI are just cold tools and machines in need of human instructions.
This inspires us to conclude that our education systems should have a more all-around focus.
In the past dozens of years, we put much more attention on science and technologies than
humanity subjects. More importance should be attached to the valuable spiritual wealth of
human beings. By exploiting our unlimited creativity and creating greater civilizations, we
human beings can make ourselves unreplaceable.
