The Yalta Conference was held in February 1945 in Crimea, Ukraine and brought together the "Big Three" Allied leaders - President Franklin Roosevelt of the United States, Prime Minister Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom, and Premier Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union. The goals of the conference were to discuss the post-war reorganization of Germany and issues of reestablishing security and global cooperation. Some of the key agreements reached included dividing Germany into occupation zones, the Soviet Union joining the allies in the war against Japan in exchange for territorial gains, and the founding of the United Nations to replace the discredited League of Nations.
