World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, involving major events in Europe, Asia, and Africa. It pitted the Allied forces led by Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, and Joseph Stalin against the Axis powers led by Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Emperor Hirohito of Japan. The war resulted in over 60 million deaths and had significant political, economic, social, and technological consequences, including the United States dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 that killed over 250,000 people.
