I threw this powerpoint on here in an attempt to be able to share it with some colleagues. There were some formatting issues after it was uploaded so I didn't end up sharing this version. I never thought that other people would view it, and completely forgot about this site. This morning I got an e-mail saying I had 100 views, and was completely flabbergasted. Since people are finding this useful I'll try and upload the powerpoint again after having made some formatting changes so the text doesn't drop off, etc.
Thanks for reading!

A. Strict exclusivism is the view that there is one and only one abs.docxjosephinepaterson7611
A. Strict exclusivism is the view that there is one and only one absolutely true religion and that only the faithful of that one and only one absolutely true religion will be saved. Several people have observed that geography is by and large the single biggest indicator of what religion one practices. For instance, if one is born in Saudi Arabia, it is highly likely that she will practice Islam; if one is born in Tibet, it is highly likely he will be a Buddhist, and so on. In light of this fact, do you think it is rational to adopt strict exclusivism? Why or why not?
B. There have been many holy and virtuous people produced by lots of different religions in the world. Gandhi was a Hindu, while Martin Luther King Jr. was a Protestant Christian. And the Dalai Lama is Buddhist. Do you think that the fact that there have been many holy and virtuous people produced by lots of different religions in the world shows that strict exclusivism is false?
C. As we have noted, strict exclusivism is the view that there is one and only one absolutely true religion and that only the faithful of that one and only one absolutely true religion will be saved. One worry that people raise with this view is that this position is intolerant and arrogant. Do you agree with that criticism? Why or why not?
D. Think back over all of the topics we have covered in this class. At the end, think of the position that we studied that stands out to you as the most plausible. Summarize that position in your own words and why you find it to be the most plausible. Also think of the position that we studied that stands out to you as the least plausible. Summarize that position in your own words and why you find it to be the least plausible

8. “Mortal men believe that gods are begotten, and that they have the dress, voice,
and body of mortals. The Ethiopians claim that their gods are snub-nosed and
black; the Thracians, that theirs are blue-eyed and red-headed. If Oxen, horses, or
lions had hands with which to sketch and fashion works of art as men do. Then
horses would draw the forms of gods like horses, oxen like oxen, and they would
each make their gods’ bodies similar in frame to the bodies that they themselves
possess… No! One god there is, greatest among gods and humankind, in no way
like mortals in body or in the thought of his mind. In his entirety, he sees; in his
entirety, he thinks; in his entirety, he hears. Always in the same place, he remains,
moving not at all; it is not fitting that he should shift about now here and, then,
elsewhere. But holding aloof from toil, he sets all things aquiver with the thought of
his mind.”
