2. Overview of the Event
The ‘World Fintech Forum 2016 Seoul’ will be held at the Korea Exchange (KRX), Seoul,
Korea, during June 1st & 2nd, 2016, with the main theme of “The Future of Money: From
Analog Money to Digital Money” with a subtitle of
“The shapes and the flows of money”.
‘Money’ has been used by mankind as a means to store value as well as a means to
exchange goods for thousands of years and it will continue to stay around mankind.
However, as time changes and the technology advances, the shapes of the currency and
how the currencies are exchanged – the infrastructure – has been evolving continuously.
Through ‘FinTech’, a new industry created by combining ‘finance’ and ‘technology’, our
mankind once again will experience various new shapes of money and many innovative
ways to exchange money through new infrastructure.
The first of its kind, ‘World Fintech Forum 2016 Seoul’ will gather experts of FinTech from
more than 16 countries around the globe in the capital of Korea and will share the latest
knowledge, business model and the regulations and support policies of different
governments around the world on how the existing analog money has been transforming
into the digital money, and how the infrastructure of the money exchange is going through
an innovation and how the shapes of the money will look in the future.
The Forum will provide an in-depth knowledge for the FinTech industry participants, and
intriguing information on the latest ‘currency economy’ for the general public and the
consumers of money.
3. The Forum is Officially Supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning
(MISP) and the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of the government of the Republic
of Korea as well as Korea Exchange (KRX), Korea’s leading public stock exchange. The
event also is driven by its Official Partners; Korea FinTech Forum, Silicon Valley Forum,
Korea Mobile Finance Forum, Korea CFO School, Open Source Promotion Association,
Finance ICT Convergence Society, K-OTC Business Association and The Block Chain
Forum.
4. Purpose of the Event
The FinTech industry is new to all of us as it produces new shapes of financial services
and products by combining the innovative technology and business models to the
existing financial industry. It also gets so diverse, as the entire FinTech industry is
categorized into a wide array of business sectors. Understanding and sharing an accurate
and in-depth knowledge is important for the governments, businesses, investors as well as
the consumers as they all make up the stakeholders of this new ecology.
The way we conduct financial transactions, both individually and at a corporate level,
will go through a dramatic face-lift because of the FinTech. Countless hot start-ups will
be created in the Fintech arena and will become a new financial major in no time. A fierce
war is expected among the existing financial giants to stay alive and to pursue a new leap
toward the future. Governments will also try very hard to not miss the opportunity in
supporting the Fintech industry. Governments will be presenting various new policies to
support the growth of the FinTech industry which will evidently change and expand the size
the macro economy to an unimaginable domain.
World Fintech Forum 2016 Seoul will host insightful lectures, discussions and
networking on various key areas in the growth of the FinTech ecology. We will witness:
Global FinTech Trends & Best Practices, Innovative Models & Hot Start-Ups, Alliance
Building and Partnering, Infrastructure & Technology, Sharing of the Research Data,
Government Policies and Regulations
5. National associations and forums representing 16 participating nations will be present as
well as hot start-ups, government organizations, investors, banks, major corporations,
universities as well as general public and students will eye on this global scale event that
focuses on Fintech – which will change their future before they know it. All attendees will
experience ‘Everything about Fintech’ at the event.
As a highlight of the Forum, the ‘World FinTech Association (WFA)’ will be founded
with the participating 16 national associations and forums. (Founding Member Nations:
USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Sweden,
Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea). Korea will
be the Chairing Nation and Ms. Soyeong Park, the Chairperson of the Korea FinTech
Forum, will presume the founding Chairperson of the WFA.
