So today im going to talk about ways that IoT can be intergrated with an amazing platform like Wordpress
Meet Brad the toaster, he will wiggle his handle and do whatever he can to get you to have toast. Ignore him long enough and he will ping a network of potential new owners to find a new home. Brad the toaster is a project that earlier in the year was created to demonstrate the power of IoT, Brad can be so persistant that he will even contact the postal service to get himself transported to a new home.
I was recently in singapore at the one maker group office where they are demonstrating a smart table which was a simple ikea table that had sensors built into it so that you can place advertising material like fliers or catalogues on the table and it will tell you via the internet when it is close to running out. Whats more if the table is picked up from the floor an alarm sounds and it sends out an alert “help” message via SMS or email.
Which looks something like this using a gemma
In the internet of things everything around us will be connecting in ways that will enhance our everyday life, they will connect without us even knowing to assist in ways we wont even know.
So some reasearch from cisco found that by 2020 there will be an estimated 50 billion IoT devices with the possiblity of connecting to your website. That will be getting data triggering transactions and interacting in ways that previously would not have been possible creating so many opportunities
That’s basically an estimated 26 IoT devices for every person on the face of the planet, in the internet of things future the machines will out number us but will do so in ways to help create new opportunities
And using wordpress to do this makes complete sense, it powers a large portion of the internet which means you already have a very large existing client base to engage with.
So a more advanced method you could use OpenResty inside Nginx quite easily to create your own restful API without needing to use PHP
