The EAPCI has created a new Women's Committee to address issues related to women in interventional cardiology. The committee will focus on two areas: increasing the number of women entering the field of interventional cardiology, as currently less than 10% of interventional cardiologists are women despite 60% of medical students being women; and improving diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions for women, as STEMI is often misdiagnosed or treatment is delayed for women. The committee, chaired by Julinda Mehilli and Josepa Mauri, aims to examine gender disparities and understand the needs and aspirations of female specialists in order to create opportunities for women within interventional cardiology.
