Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice that was discovered in 2004 and awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010. It has exceptional properties such as optical transparency, electrical and thermal conductivity, flexibility, strength, and impermeability. Large area graphene films produced through cost-effective methods could transform industries like sensors, energy storage, desalination, thermal management, and flexible electronics. Graphene Frontiers has developed a patent-pending process for mass-producing and transferring graphene films to substrates that is chemical-free, suitable for roll-to-roll production, and will enable cost-effective graphene that can drive new applications.

This report takes a look into the patenting activity around gallium Nitride uncovering the companies, inventors, and key applications.
GaN is a binary III-V direct bandgap semiconductor commonly used in LEDs. Its wide-band gap of 3.4 eV affords its special properties for applications in optoelectronic, high-power and high-frequency devices. Because GaN offers very high breakdown voltages, high electron mobility, and saturation velocity it is also an ideal candidate for high-power and high-temperature microwave applications like RF power amplifiers at microwave frequencies and high-voltage switching devices for power grids. Solutions that use GaN-based RF transistors are also replacing the magnetrons used in microwave ovens.
Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistor models have evolved from GaAs (gallium arsenide) transistor models; however there are many advantages GaN offers:
• Higher operating voltage (over 100-V breakdown)
• Higher operating temperature (over 150°C channel temperature)
• Higher power density (5 to 30 W/mm)
• Durable and crack-resistant material
GaN devices are often grown on SiC (silicon carbide) substrates, but to achieve lower-cost GaN devices, they can be grown on sapphire and silicon wafers. GaN’s wide bandgap allows for higher breakdown voltages and operation at high temperatures. The high thermal conductivity of SiC makes it a better substrate than silicon for power amplifier applications that require good heat sinking.
The document discusses opportunities in decarbonizing the electricity sector through investment in climate technology companies. Specifically, it notes three tailwinds driving this transition: 1) the rise of renewable energy sources like solar which are projected to make up 69% of Australia's electricity by 2030, 2) decentralization of the electricity grid through distributed energy resources like rooftop solar and batteries, and 3) increased demand for carbon offsets which could grow 15-100x by 2050. The document profiles several startups working in these areas and outlines how venture capital can help scale solutions to lower the cost of clean technologies.

The power plant uses new high-efficiency Wärtsilä 32TS engines optimized for the extreme ambient temperatures up to 50 degrees Celsius at the mountain desert site. Citec delivered full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services from 17,000 hours of 200 engineers in India and Finland. The project demonstrated Citec's capabilities in executing complex projects using their operating model of local presence with global resourcing.
This document summarizes the findings of a national cost benefit assessment of implementing a smart grid in Australia. Key findings include:
- A medium scenario deployment of technologies like fault detection and dynamic pricing could provide $27 billion in net benefits.
- Smart meter infrastructure on its own is not yet economically justified but enables benefits from dynamic pricing and distributed energy resources.
- Dynamic pricing strongly incentivizes smaller solar and storage adoption over business as usual and reduces electricity bills.
- Fault detection and isolation could provide significant benefits depending on how reliability is valued.

8. The concept is a beautifully engineered and very
impressive mechanism using differential gearing.
Viewing the device in operation raises a complete’
wow factor’ from seeing the pendulum continually
spin the flywheel.
This has clearly taken a fair deal of working out
and engineering brilliance to achieve the slick
mechanism demonstrated.
A significant benefit is that the device could
be hermetically sealed for life, maintenance
free and fouling on the outside should not
affect its operation.

Contained within a sealed unit, WITTs utilize a 3D pendulum
which drives the transmission system, converting all motion, in
any combination of the six degrees of freedom, into a single
unidirectional rotation of a flywheel, to produce electricity!
WITT‘s harvest chaotic motion, fast, slow or erratic, turning into
useable power. No other energy harvesting system can capture
this full spectrum-thus the WITT absorbs up to 100% more
energy compared to other devices!

Schaeffler is a global bearings and components supplier for applications
including automotive, wind turbines and ocean power applications (their
turnover was €12.1bn in 2014). They are very impressed with the WITT
technology and have agreed to provide their own RD support to bring
the Marine WITT without cost to Witt Limited.
Ricardo is a global engineering consultancy employing over 2000
engineers around the world, providing world class engineering and
product development expertise to bring new products to market.
It is working with Ricardo and Schaeffler to ensure
that it brings its technology through to production.
These are global companies with the necessary skills
and an established track record of bringing new
technologies to market.
16. We are delighted to be working with Witt Limited
to develop their marine power energy harvester.
Indeed we see our expertise in bearing technology
for the marine sector as being highly beneficial in
bringing the WITT technology to market.
Schaeffler is committed to the development of
renewable energy solutions that have the potential
to make a significant positive impact on climate
change. Water power is an important renewable
energy resource, and the capability to generate
energy from ocean waves represents a key future-
oriented growth field for Schaeffler.

Our Vendée Globe Energy Challenge project goal is
to showcase the potential of the latest innovations in
renewable energy production.
Demonstrating this zero-emissions vehicle in
extreme environments, producing its own energy
in total autonomy represents a powerful statement
in today’s capabilities, enabling an accelerated
transition towards sustainable energy models.
Witt Limited’s pioneering new technology for
harnessing renewable energy, and capturing
dynamic wave motion to turn this into useable
power is of great interest to the team.

There are also many lifesaving and ocean survival applications
where energy power is needed and we are delighted to have the
RNLI and global survival company, Survitec, wanting to deploy
our WITTs at sea. Of course Lloyds Register is keen to help WITT
as we progress, Health safety at sea is a global issue.

Witt Limited, with its new dragonfly concept of capturing wind
power from any direction for use by households where there
is access of low level wind, see the WITT as providing a future
wind harvesting technology that could be developed for a global
market. This will avoid having to install higher level wind turbines
to capture wind power.

Sales of marine WITTs for small vessels will be achieved from web sales
utilising the Amazon model.
We shall sell the WITTs online and through marine retail outlets such as
West Marine in the US that has over 300 chandlery stores based around
harbours etc. Globally there are over 40 millions small vessels and yachts
that our marine WITT could be retrofitted to with many boat owners
wanting a power solution that does not use a diesel generator.
Specialist marine WITTs also to be sold as an OEM component to Ocean
survival companies such as Survitec for ocean survival products.
Sales of WITTs for instrumentation buoys to be sold as a retrofit
via global distributors such as Trelleborg, or a new build via OEM
manufacturers such as Planet Ocean Ltd.
Future applications - Soldier backpack WITTs sold using retained
agents in the US (JGW Group) or by linking up with and using the sales
channels of global defence entities such as General Dynamics Thales.
Consumer units to recharge smart phones could be sold online and via
global entities.

central goal to improve and expand the core technology.
Finding dominant channel partners to access markets where
the WITT provides high added value will also be at the core
of WL’s activities.
Manufacture of WITTs to be undertaken by specialist contract
manufacturing partners.
WITTs can be volume manufactured as a complete system
sold on a stand alone basis, or as an OEM component for
integration within branded products tailored for various vertical
market sectors.
Initial Revenue to be from straight sales of marine applications.
Subsequently, after the first marine applications are
commercialised, future applications for other sectors will
be commercialised once appropriate teams are assembled
and demand pull is demonstrated.
