Windows 10

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Windows 10 became available on July 29 2015 in 190 markets globally as a free upgrade to customers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. It's already been downloaded on more than 14 million PCs. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-product/windows/windows-10-release-date-price-features-uk-free-upgrades-uk-14m-3496959/
  • #3 Microsoft touts it’s new OS as an upgrade to your world. Here’s a short video showing how Microsoft has branded the product.
  • #4 While Windows 10 offers many awesome features, critics of the OS are concerned about user privacy. While security-conscious users may see Microsoft’s features as flaws, Microsoft is very proud of their ability to tailor user experience, speed update downloads and provide free Wi-Fi. http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/geniuses.jpg
  • #5 In taking a closer look at one way Windows 10 tailors user experience, we see that it’s data mining by another name. Collected information is assigned to an anonymous ID and cannot be connected back to individual users. App developers, advertisers and Cortana (Microsoft’s version of Siri) all use this information to benefit users. http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/bitwise/2015/08/windows_10_privacy_problems_here_s_how_bad_they_are_and_how_to_plug_them.html http://www.alphr.com/microsoft/microsoft-windows-10/1001289/the-5-windows-10-privacy-issues-you-should-be-aware-of
  • #6 How do users feel about this? Let’s find out!
  • #8 The second commonly-discussed feature or flaw critics have found is Microsoft’s use of your internet. It shares software updates across various internet connections to provide quick downloads for users, but for users on metered connections, this can be costly. Microsoft doesn’t just mooch your internet for its own use. The tech giant also mooches on behalf of your friends. http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/bitwise/2015/08/windows_10_privacy_problems_here_s_how_bad_they_are_and_how_to_plug_them.html http://blogs.wsj.com/personal-technology/2015/08/05/windows-10-isnt-spyware-but-it-wants-your-data/
  • #9 I don’t know about you, but for me this isn’t a big deal. I’m not on a metered connection, are you?
  • #10 And, I already share my Wi-Fi with my friends. At least with Microsoft’s Wi-Fi sense feature, I don’t have to try to explain the long password. What do you think?
  • #11 Any other thoughts?
