The document discusses a participatory mapping project called Abuja MapUp that took place in Abuja, Nigeria. Over 100 participants including government agencies, NGOs, private organizations, youths and students participated in a 1-day training and then 4 days of intensive mapping to map Abuja. The project followed a participatory mapping cycle where community members mapped locations, field workers verified maps, and local managers analyzed the maps. Google Maps and OpenStreetMaps were used to crowdsource mapping and add schools, roads, buildings and other points of interest to create maps of Abuja.

This document discusses OpenStreetMap (OSM), a crowdsourced open-source map of the world. It provides examples of how OSM has been used in the Philippines, including by over 1000 contributors who have helped map the country. OSM data was extensively updated after Typhoon Haiyan to support humanitarian response, with over 4.7 million map changes made. The document outlines how OSM can be used for navigation, disaster management, and resilience in the Philippines.
Philippine Geospatial Forum Presentation 20130311esambale
The document discusses open source, open data, and collaborative geospatial tools and projects. It highlights platforms like QGIS, GRASS, OpenStreetMap, Ushahidi, and others that enable open mapping and crowdsourced data collection. It addresses criticisms around accuracy and reliability but argues these projects are "good enough" and evolve based on user needs. The document emphasizes that open data and tools allow anyone to engage in mapping and analysis.

OpenStreetMap Using, Tools, Services & Hows its changed Humanitarian Responsechippy
OpenStreetMap is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. The document discusses how to contribute map data by making small edits using simple tools. It also describes how OpenStreetMap data is being used for humanitarian purposes such as crisis mapping and disaster response, providing an open alternative to proprietary mapping solutions. Over 240,000 users have contributed to OpenStreetMap, including 14,000 classified as active contributors.
The document summarizes the OpenStreetMap community's response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake by mapping damage from satellite imagery and coordinating data collection through open tools. Volunteers mapped collapsed buildings, camps, damaged infrastructure and landslides to aid relief efforts. The maps were used to distribute food and water by identifying spontaneous camps. Reconstruction efforts were also mapped to increase accountability for donations. OpenStreetMap coordinated their mapping work through mailing lists and tools like Ushahidi to effectively respond to the disaster.

This document discusses OpenStreetMap, a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world. It provides statistics on OSM's growth, encourages participants to contribute data, and demonstrates how OSM data can be accessed and visualized through tools like OverPass, TagInfo, various map APIs, and platforms like CartoDB, GeoCommons, and Stamen Maps. Videos and animations are linked to illustrate how OSM is edited and has grown over time. The presenter advocates for OSM as an open alternative to proprietary mapping platforms.
Crowdsourcing, through OpenStreetMap, transformed disaster relief efforts in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake by providing highly detailed and up-to-date maps created by volunteers. Within two weeks, over a million objects were added to the maps of Haiti, becoming a critical resource for humanitarian organizations' search and rescue operations as well as aid distribution. The success of this effort proved that crowdsourcing can substantially help save lives in disasters from anywhere in the world.
Maptivism - Maps for Activism, Transparency and EngagementChristian Kreutz
This document discusses how maps can be used for activism, transparency, and engagement. It provides examples of maps that have been used historically and currently to spread awareness of issues, engage communities in mapping and data collection, and advocate for change. Key points are made about how maps can help orient people, reduce complexity, and provide context and perspective on issues. Crowdsourcing of mapping data allows more open and detailed maps to be created.

About HOT: http://hot.openstreetmap.org/
Current HOT projects: http://hot.openstreetmap.org/projects
This document discusses open data and open source initiatives in the Philippines. It begins with a disclaimer from the author Maning Sambale about his perspectives. It then discusses concepts like open data, free culture movements, open source software, open formats, and free content. Examples of open initiatives in the Philippines are provided like OpenStreetMap and Project NOAH. The document ends with excuses people give for not sharing data openly and messages from users of open mapping data in the Philippines.
The document announces an event for River Region GIS Day that will include presentations on how to use GIS technology in various fields such as emergency management, surveying, census data, and more. Continuing education credits will be offered to attendees. The event aims to educate the public on the growing benefits of GIS, which include improved decision making, communication, data management, and understanding of geographic trends to better plan for the future. Attendees can learn how GIS has helped organizations increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and solve location-based problems.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
