Valentine's Day got its start.
Lupercalia is a fertility holiday
that is held from February 13 to
15th. It was a celebration of
Faunus, the Roman god of
agriculture.
During the festival, young men
picked women's names out of a
box and became partners with
them for the festival's length.

St. Valentine, a Christian who died for his faith, is why
Valentine's Day is associated with romance. Multiple
Christians named "Valentines" were killed for their faith

against what Emperor Claudius II told him to do. Claudius
didn't let young men get married because he felt that single
men made better fighters. Valentine was found guilty, and on
February 14, he was put to death.
Another story says that while St. Valentine was in prison, he
fell in love with the jailer's daughter. "From your Valentine," h
told her in a letter before he was killed.

London in the 15th century. The
