Sri Lanka remains underdeveloped due to a variety of root causes, according to the author. These include (1) an underdog mentality resulting from 500 years of colonization, (2) a lack of critical thinking due to poor education and a tendency to believe myths, and (3) poor root cause analysis where surface issues are addressed rather than underlying causes. Additional factors include black and white thinking, jealousy of others' success, cunning politicians ruling rather than the wise, a primitive education system, fear of change, laziness, ethnic and religious politics, and a tendency for people to act artificially rather than live authentically. The author argues that overcoming these deep-seated issues is key for Sri Lanka
