I am writing this reference at the request of Jessica Carpenter. I have known Jessica for approximately two years
both professionally and socially. While employed at IBM I’ve had the opportunity to first know Jessica
professionally through the fire service. As a Lieutenant on the Essex Fire Department-a paid on call municipal
department of the Town of Essex Vermont, we would occasionally work with Sun Ray Fire & Security on fire
inspection details associatedwith both new builds and existing upgrades. Through both eMail and site
inspections, It became quite clear Jessica’s knowledge of NFPA code, and project management. Many time
Jessica pulled all parties together fromvarious organizations in order to tackle challenging code evaluations that
New England states like Vermont have instituted. Jessica was also instrumental in working through architectural
challenges and grandfather clauses to find a solution that both was safe, economically in the best interest of the
client. The aging infrastructure that New Englandbrings to the fire safety industry is a unique one and Jessica
handled each endeavor with professionalism.
I also grew to know Jessica socially and would like to comment on her caliber of character. Jessica is educated,
forward thinking, confident, and not afraid to put the effort into devising complex solutions. She always took the
“Sun Ray” business as her own, ensuring that the name was upheld,and the bottomline was met. On many
occasions, Jessica had to deal with business dynamics that only a dedicated senior officer could do and met them
successfully. We discussed many times ways to grow the business, improve the fleet, and develop the enterprise.
In these discussions we were in different industries, but the challenges seen on commerce were the same.
Leading, managing, mentoring, and and architectingbusiness deals are all part of a senior member ’s repertoire.
Jessica holds these character traits. Any company that makes Jessica a member of their organization willbe
gaining a valuable asset. I highly recommend Jessica as a member of your organization. During my 25 year
tenure at IBM, I would compare Jessica’s skills ad attributes to top performing employees in my organization.
While new endeavors have taken me away from Vermont, I feel confident Jessica’s desire to excel has only
