This document provides an explanation of the GRADE methodology notation and language used in clinical practice guidelines. It describes the four types of recommendations that can be made using GRADE: strong recommendation for, strong recommendation against, conditional recommendation for, and conditional recommendation against. For each type of recommendation, it explains the conclusion the panel would have reached regarding the available scientific evidence, and provides examples of the language used in guidelines for that particular recommendation.
