Teeth bleaching has been around since Roman times.
It certainly is nothing new. But there is a lot new in what
is known about how teeth bleaching works. It’s not all
that simple to understand, but with WhiteScience innova-
tions, it is easy to accomplish. We supply the tools for you
to rejuvenate your smile in your favorite spa or salon.
science, the not-so-simple part
Research has shown that there are five elements to success-
ful teeth whitening. The more of these factors included
in a bleaching treatment, the greater the results that treat-
ment will achieve. These five factors are:
Peroxide | Light | Pressure | Heat | Exposure
Peroxide This is the active ingredient in virtually all
dental whitening products. It comes in many forms,
but ultimately breaks down to hydrogen peroxide. The
hydrogen peroxide reacts with light and oxygen to form
hydroxyl radicals, which penetrate the tooth structure,
breaking down stains into progressively smaller particles
as they go. So far, so good.
But peroxide is strong stuff, and can burn gums and cause
tooth sensitivity. Typically, this is dealt with simply by
diluting the peroxide; the lower the concentration of
peroxide, the fewer the side effects, but the less effective
it is at whitening teeth. The main reason for the side
effects is that the pH (degree of acidity or alkalinity)
of peroxide is too far away from neutral. Some tooth bleach
manufacturers artificially lower the pH of their peroxide
to make it more stable. But this increases its side effects.
There is a better way.
Light The conversion of hydrogen peroxide to hydroxyl
radicals can be accelerated and sustained by exposure to
certain wavelengths of light, basically from about 400
to 560 nanometers. This is well within the safe visible light
spectrum, far away from dangerous ultraviolet light. By
exposing the teeth to light concentrated in this spectrum
while the peroxide is on the teeth, the whitening action
is accelerated and intensified, increasing the release of
hydroxyl radicals, even with neutral pH peroxide.
Pressure Peroxide is of little value if it doesn’t get into
the structure of the tooth. Mild pressure is required
to accomplish this. Dentists apply pressure by molding
a tray that is custom fit to your teeth. The peroxide gel
is placed in the tray, and forced into place. SpaWhite
accomplishes this action with a patented pressure pad that
forms to the shape of your teeth without the need for an
expensive, custom tray.
Heat Peroxide becomes more active as it heats up,
releasing more of its powerful hydroxyl radicals than
would occur at lower temperatures.
Exposure The longer you expose your teeth to a combi-
nation of peroxide, light, heat and pressure the whiter
your teeth will get — to a point. Peroxide eventually breaks
down into water. It “wears out” rather quickly, and the
more light and heat it is exposed to, the faster it wears out.
So a balance must be struck between repetition of applica-
tions and exposure time.
implementation, the simple part
Peroxide Innovative, patented foam pads are saturated
with specially formulated neutral pH peroxide gel. And
the foam pads collect the stain material as it breaks down,
so you remove the stains when you remove the pads.
Light An advanced,
spectrum-controlled light
specifically developed for
the SpaWhite process is
positioned to apply its en-
ergy just outside of a clear
lens positioned between
the teeth. This unique,
patented lens not only acts
to guide the light into the
peroxide, it also helps with
delivering the next factor:
Pressure The pads are placed
into pressure pockets in the lens,
which squeezes them between the
lens and teeth, forcing the perox-
ide gel into the tooth structure.
Heat The combination of the foam pads, pressure, and
light streaming through the lens reacts with internal
mouth temperature (that is where the doctor takes your
temperature, after all) to raise the temperature of the
peroxide.
Exposure For most people, one or two SpaWhite ses-
sions of 12 to 15 minutes each is sufficient.
White Science combines several innovations to rejuvenate your smile in record time. It begins with
a process you do for yourself in the convenience of your favorite spa or salon followed by a unique
process that you can do anywhere, any time. It’s a simple yet comprehensive two-part approach to
getting and keeping the smile of a lifetime.

real power. real science.
The breakthrough that makes WhiteIce possible is the
science of microencapsulation. WhiteScience uses a
patent-pending method that encapsulates real peroxide
inside tiny cells. This keeps the peroxide in a stable and
storable state until it combines with the moisture and
heat of your mouth. Then the tiny cells break down at
varying rates, causing a time-release of peroxide on your
teeth. The special binder that holds the cells in stick
form also holds the peroxide tight against the teeth, using
the slight pressure needed to apply the stick to your teeth.
As handsome as it is, WhiteIce is much more than a piece
of cosmetic jewelry. It’s got real peroxide in an effective yet
safe concentration. Its clever design lets you supply pres-
sure, your body supplies heat, and exposure comes from
using WhiteIce as often as daily. So you’ve got four out the
five elements needed for successful whitening. All that’s
missing is light. And, with your new smile, there’s bound
to be plenty of spotlights on you.

After you detail your car, you don’t expect it to stay clean,
do you? The day-to-day environment is full of stuff that
conspires to make your car look less than its best.
And so it is with teeth. You may have a beautiful smile after
a whitening treatment, but how long will it last? Just as
there are trees that drip sap and birds that drop what birds
drop on cars, there are things like red wine, coffee, tea,
tobacco, berries, beets — the list of things that will darken
your beautiful smile is almost endless.
Until now, the only way to really maintain a white smile by
using cumbersome whitening strips or trays and syringes.
There needed to be a better alternative. That’s why Whit-
eIce was developed. It packs real whitening power in the
most convenient form ever — there’s even a built-in mir-
ror so you can use your WhiteIce anywhere. It fits in your
pocket or purse, and is as easy to use as lip balm. Simply
remove the cap, give the base a twist and rub a thin glaze
of the WhiteIce on your teeth. It combines with the heat
and moisture in your mouth to release its potent whiten-
ing agent. Then, after it’s done its job — usually about ten
minutes — it disappears, leaving you with a bright smile
and a minty-fresh breath.
