This document summarizes the results of a survey on attitudes toward same-sex marriage in Ireland. The survey included questions about views on civil partnerships and marriage for same-sex couples, perceptions of fairness in excluding gay men and women from marriage, and reasons for not allowing same-sex couples to marry. Key findings are that 53% of respondents ages 15-40 felt same-sex couples should be allowed to marry, while 28% of those ages 41+ felt they should be allowed civil partnerships but not marriage. The top three reasons for not allowing same-sex marriage were religious/moral objections, that it is unnatural, and that marriage is about families and children.
The group Young Voices is campaigning to lower the UK's voting age from 18 to 16 through their campaign called Franchise at 16. They argue that 16 and 17-year olds pay taxes, can work full-time, and in some cases serve in the armed forces, so they deserve the right to vote. Lowering the voting age could encourage more young people to vote and engage with the political process. Studies show that 16-year olds in other countries vote in similar numbers to 18-24 year olds when given the opportunity.
Discrimination against women persists globally through discriminatory laws that institutionalize women's second-class status regarding issues like nationality, health, education, employment, inheritance and more. While some progress has been made, gender inequalities remain in areas like pay, unemployment, household responsibilities, and legal restrictions on women's rights in many countries. Overcoming discrimination requires recognizing how gender norms influence all societal institutions and changing perceptions at their intersection.
We are a group of teenagers who are doing campaigning for the voting age in the UK to be lowered to 16. We want to make people aware how unfair it is that they do not get the vote. Hopefully, we may also be able to change minds of those that are against it.
We would be very grateful if you could please leave a comment on your views, ideas for our campaign even improvements...anything really.
We hope you enjoy our power point, thank you!
The document discusses the ongoing campaign to lower the UK's voting age from 18 to 16. [1] The campaign argues that 16- and 17-year-olds are mature enough to vote as they hold responsibilities in society and should have a say in decisions that affect their future. [2] However, others counter that most young people lack sufficient political knowledge and may be influenced by parents, posing the question of where to draw the line on the voting age. [3] Both sides present reasonable arguments for and against lowering the voting age.
Gerrymandering and lack of diversity negatively impact Congress. Only 16% of Congress is female and less than 7% are ethnic minorities. Congressmen often spend time and resources on pork barrel projects to please constituents. Committee chairs once had too much power but now face term limits, resulting in less expertise. Scandals in Congress increase public skepticism while divided government and abuse of the filibuster limit oversight of the executive branch.

British people are becoming increasingly isolated from their local communities, with more than half not knowing their neighbors' first names. About 70% do not know their full names and just over a third wouldn't recognize them. Less than a third would consider their neighbors friends. Londoners were found to be the most apathetic about neighbors, with 82% not knowing what their neighbors did for work. This isolation is due to people moving homes more frequently, spending less time communicating face-to-face, and being more cautious about who they welcome into their homes. The lack of familiarity between neighbors has implications, as people may be less willing or able to look out for each other.
The document discusses voter turnout in UK general elections from 1979 to 2001. It notes that turnout declined significantly over this period, with only 59% of registered voters participating in the 2001 election compared to 76% in 1979. Younger voters aged 18-24 were less likely to vote than older age groups. Surveys also found low levels of political interest among teenagers and young adults.

It discusses how experts often lump all millennials together but there are important differences between younger ("young") and older ("older") millennials. It notes that older millennials are entering their "responsibility zone" and many are achieving milestones like marriage, children, and homeownership.
The document also addresses common reasons cited for low millennial homeownership like student loans. It argues that factors like education level are more important indicators of future earnings than debt alone. Having a college degree still typically

Common myths that have prevented Millennials from considering homeownership include that they cannot afford homes or qualify for mortgages due to student loan debt. However, the document argues that many Millennials can qualify for mortgages and that a college degree still increases earning potential despite student loans.

Mention domestic abuse and many will immediately think of visible bruises, scars and marks on a victim. Yet domestic abuse is not only physical. Psychological, emotional and financial abuse are all types of domestic abuse categorised under coercive or controlling behaviour. Each can result in a victim being isolated from their friends and family; being controlled over aspects of their everyday life, such as where they can go, who they can see, what they can wear and when they can sleep; and controlling their finances.

The document discusses arguments for and against lowering the minimum voting age. It notes that while most countries have the age set at 18, some have it as low as 16. Advocates argue that 16-year-olds have adult responsibilities and should have a say, and research shows lower ages increase youth participation without lowering vote quality. However, others argue younger people lack maturity. Countries experimenting with lower ages often do so incrementally. Overall it is a complex debate that intersects with issues of children's rights.

The Urban Institute researchers studies issues related to same-sex couples and the LGBTQ community. They analyze census data on same-sex couples to understand trends in areas like families with children, senior couples, and those in the military. Their research finds that lack of marriage rights causes financial hardships for same-sex couples, especially senior couples who lose benefits and face taxes when a partner dies. Workplace protections are also linked to higher earnings for gay men. Their studies aim to provide factual information on issues related to the LGBTQ community.
Primary and secondary research for documentaryashleysmith123
This document summarizes primary and secondary research on old people. The primary research included surveys that found people on average know 5.5 old people, consider 70+ to be old, and think old people spend time watching TV, sleeping, and spoiling grandchildren. Interviews were also conducted with residents and staff at a retirement village, charity shops, churches, and bingo halls. Secondary research from online statistics showed the population of those over 65 is growing significantly and will double by 2050, resulting in fewer working age people to support more retired people.
The document discusses arguments for lowering the legal drinking age in the United States from 21 to 18. It notes that underage drinking is still prevalent despite the age being 21, and that other developed countries with lower drinking ages do not see the same levels of binge drinking and dangerous behavior among youth. Supporters of lowering the age argue it could help establish safer drinking habits among young people and ensure safer environments for alcohol consumption versus unsupervised underage drinking. However, others believe the brain is not fully developed until age 21 and that maintaining the higher age saves lives based on statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The document summarizes attitudes toward immigration in the UK based on a May 2018 survey. It finds that while views on immigration remain more positive than before the Brexit vote, the majority still want immigration reduced. Dissatisfaction with the government's handling of immigration has increased. Most believe the Windrush scandal was due to government incompetence. Respondents also overestimate the proportion of immigrants and illegal immigrants in the UK.

The document discusses popular opinions on providing a path to legal status for unauthorized immigrants. It notes that Newt Gingrich proposed allowing citizenship for those who have lived in the US long-term, have children here, pay taxes, and belong to a church. Surveys found over 70% of Hispanics and US residents support this, as do over 85% of undocumented Hispanic workers. The document also provides statistics on how long unauthorized immigrants have lived in the US, their family status, and religious attendance.
