Spouses of retiring military personnel often choose to stay home rather than enter the workforce due to frequent long absences of their active duty spouses. However, upon retirement, reduced household income from the military pension alone can be inadequate. To address this, a welfare program is proposed to provide skills training and job placement assistance to retired military spouses. The program would offer classes in computer skills, resume writing, mock interviews, and link participants to social and legal services. Its goals are to empower retired spouses economically and help them successfully adapt to civilian life. Locating the program in New York and assessing placements and surveys would evaluate its effectiveness in serving this community.
