5. Introduction
Bohol is a province of the Philippines, in the countryโs Central
Visayas region. It comprises Bohol Island and numerous
smaller surrounding islands. Bohol is known for coral reefs and
unusual geological formations, notably the Chocolate Hills. On
the main island, near the town of Carmen, these 1,200 or so
symmetrical mounds turn cocoa-brown in the dry season,
contrasting with the surrounding jungle's greenery.

The island was the seat of the first international
treaty of peace and unity between the native king
Datu Sikatuna and Spanish conquistador Miguel
Lรณpez de Legazpi on March 16 1565 through a blood
compact alliance known today by many Filipinos as
the Sandugo.

11. Sandugo Festival
Tagbilaran City, 1-2 July
The Spanish colonization of the Philippines
began with a blood-sealed peace treaty on the
shores of Bohol. This historic event is
remembered today with an all-out fiesta at the
island's capital city. Check out the Sandugo street
dancing parade featuring ten colorfully-dressed
groups dancing to the beat of drums. There's also
a traditional Filipino carnival, a martial arts
Philippine Festival, and Miss Bohol Sandugo
Beauty Pageant, among the dozen of other
exciting activities.

12. Bolibongkingking Festival
This is a music and dance festivity
depicting the history, folklore and
traditions of the Lobocanons.
Bolibongkingking is a term applied to the
drums and gongs and their rhythm used
to accompany the supplication dance
ritual in front of the Image of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, the second Patron of
Loboc. The festival is celebrated by the
Lobocanons every 23rd of May.

13. Suroy Sa Musikero
This is revelry the Loboc town
musicians cover daily the assigned
areas to partake the food serve by the
host and to play music to the tune of
Kuradang, Dalaga sa Baybayon, etc.
This is also the period that carollers
render Christmas songs to the families
of the host area. It is celebrated every
December 25 to February 2 at the
town of Loboc.

14. Calamay the famous delicacy from Bohol
Kalamay from the province of Bohol
packaged inside empty coconut shells. It is
the famous delicacy from Bohol Province
particularly in the town of Jagna.
One of the well-known treats of Bohol could
not leave the place without bringing a part of
it. The different localities make the delicacy.
However, what makes the Kalamay from
Bohol distinct is that it utilizes a coconut
shell know as โbagolโ in its packaging sealed
with papel de japon.

15. No Boholano can escape from the fiesta fever. This tradition has been inculcated in their minds
and is an intricate part of their lives. It is an ingrained habit to fatten a pig or more, a few months
back, for these affairs. For the rich, expect them to include in their preparations a cow and goat and
the forever present โlechonโ or roasted pig and all those mouth-watering desserts.

16. Summary
Bohol is a vibrant tapestry of colors woven by nature, history, and its people. Green for
its landscapes and dense forests, blue for its extensive seascapes, and red for its history
etched in blood by the nativesโ resistance against foreign ways and subjugation.
Its claim to our recorded history starts with the โsandugo,โ the shedding of blood to seal
a compact of friendship, peace and cooperation between Datu Sikatuna and Miguel
Lopez de Legazpi. Without that blood compact, the conquistador from Spain would not
have been able to establish a friendly base to launch his conquest of the rest of the
archipelago.
My mindโs impression of Bohol used to be very limited: the famous Chocolate Hills, the
tarsier, which may be the worldโs smallest primate, and lately its much acclaimed beach
resorts and diving locations
