2. Our purpose
We help human potential to
flourish by enabling people
to think and work more
creatively and productively.
3. Our vision
A world in which
the mental and physical spaces
we work from let us achieve
our best work while being
our best selves.
4. Our mission
To weave ‘deep work’ principles
into the working lives of
100,000 people by 2023.
Deep work principles are:
◆Prioritising time for focused bouts of work
◆Making the 'grand gesture' of going away
◆Crafting an ergonomic setup
◆Maintaining a healthy body and healthy mind
◆Interspersing work with play, learning and exploration
◆Connecting with nature
◆Adopting rituals for accountability and focus
5. We are FLOWN.
We create spaces for ‘deep work’.
Mental and physical spaces. Real-world and digital spaces. Solo and team spaces.
Deep work is the state you need to be in to do your best work. To think your best thoughts.
You need to go deep to reach your heights. To find your flow.
So whether you’re building a new product or a business, writing a pitch or your first novel, or designing a new brand or the next phase of your life.
We’ll provide the optimal conditions for creativity and productivity.
So you can get your ideas out of your mind and into the world.
We are FLOWN.
Our mission is to help you weave more deep work principles into your working life.
Getting you away from your day-to-day so you can dive into something significant or challenging.
Inviting you to adopt rituals that weave accountability and focus into your working day.
Creating moments for play and discovery that bring new perspectives and fresh ideas into your work.
Tapping into the creative power of being in nature.
Connecting you with diverse thinkers that break you out of your bubble.
Allowing you to go deep on the things that matter.
We are FLOWN.
Let us unleash your potential through deep work.
Our platform powers two complementary products:
FLOWN Away: A curated collection of inspiring places where you and your team can work and think - distraction-free - in an ergonomic and harmonic way.
FLOWN Here: Tools and resources that help you embed deep work principles into your working day, no matter where you are.
So when you need chances to step away, places to focus, spaces to create...
FLOWN.
Our brand narrative
6. #1. Effort is appreciated
but outcome is celebrated
We are kind and supportive to each other, and acknowledge each
other's efforts when someone goes above and beyond. But we know
that to have the kind of impact we want to have in the world, it takes a
commitment to achieving our goals with excellence and proactivity. It
doesn't mean creating an imbalance in our lives, or being hostile when
someone has striven and failed. But it does mean setting our sights on
success rather than just on performance, so our actions are focused on
what will really make a difference.
Putting this into practice
We hold the applause until the task
is complete. We recognise there
are many outcomes that deserve
celebration, from an annual target
being hit to a well-run team social
event. We manage our goals and
allocated tasks and prioritise
achieving them, not just on keeping
many plates spinning.
Keeping perspective
There is no reward without risk,
and some gambles we take will
fail. Sometimes the effort was
worthwhile even if we didn't
achieve our outcome,
especially if we learnt and grew
from the experience.
Our values
7. #2. Invent the future,
don't just build on the past
We are creating a new product category that is re-imagining the way
we work and think. There are many ways to make decisions about how
to achieve this. The most common way is to look at what has been done
in the past and build upon it; ask what people have done before and
deliver it; analyse the data that has been collected and infer from it.
However, at FLOWN we believe that true innovation, true revolution,
come from augmenting data with imagination, boldness, and well-honed
intuition and empathy. We do this judiciously, intently, and with open-
minded humility.
Putting this into practice
We take time to know our
customers intimately, so we
develop strong instincts about our
market. We focus on our vision of
the future that will make life better
for our customers and the world.
We recognise that we won't always
find data to prove the viability of
this vision by looking to the past for
examples. We must have the
bravery to be bold.
Keeping perspective
We respect the past. We stay
aware of what has been done
by others in the past, to avoid
repeating their mistakes. We
take the best of what has been
done in the past to avoid
reinventing the wheel.
Our values
8. #3. We say it straight,
and take it well
We are a team of bright creative people, and we bring out our best when
we can speak plainly, honestly, and directly to each other. It means we
know where we stand, and we can get where we want to go faster. So we
are open and honest: about the status of our projects, and with
constructive input for each other. And we welcome openness and
honesty towards ourselves and our work, even if it can be hard to hear.
We value integrity, and we do the right thing, even when no one is
looking.
Putting this into practice
It is always OK to challenge
assumptions that you think might
be faulty. It is always OK to hold
someone to account if you think
that their actions are not delivering
the objectives that were agreed. We
make it easy for the recipient of our
messages to understand and
respond to us, such as including the
context that they require and being
clear about what we'd like them to
do in response and when. We agree
consistent language across our
projects so that each team member
uses the same words to refer to the
same things.
Keeping perspective
It is equally important to accept
people challenging your
assumptions and holding you to
account. See it as a valuable
opportunity to check if you are
on the right course. When
somebody reports an issue, we
don't shoot the messenger. We
focus on fixing it as a team, not
on figuring out whose fault it was.
Our values
9. #4. Professional,
with a touch of sparkle
As a mission-driven company, we never forget our purpose is to bring
joy, magic and ease into our customer's working lives. We infuse our
work with this belief, and we design all our customer touchpoints with
this ethos. We aim to be inclusive with our language and approach to
market, yet to feel extraordinary and special with our product and
customer care.
Putting this into practice
When designing processes or
products, we think about what
would feel the most intuitive and
pleasurable experience for the
majority (without forgetting to
pay attention to the edge
cases). When interacting with
customers and partners, we lead
with our humanity, making their
day feel improved (and a bit
magical) because it involved
FLOWN.
Keeping perspective
We don't forget we are a
professional offering for busy
business people, so we ensure
the sparkle and magic sit upon a
solid basis of reliability and
substance.
Our values
10. #5. Every day we belly laugh,
exclaim “eureka!”
and smell a rose
If our mission is to weave deep work principles into the working lives of
thousands, we need to start with our team. Deep work doesn't just mean
working hard all the time. It means also interspersing that focused effort
with play and laughter, with discovery and exploration, and with
gratitude and connection with nature. We encourage each other to
laugh, learn, and revel in the small (and big) blessings of our days.
Putting this into practice
When we meet to discuss work,
we recognise each other as
humans with lives beyond work.
We create space within our
regular work routine for fun,
sharing, and personal reflection.
We embrace work as an
expression of our talents and
passions, rather than as a chore.
Keeping perspective
The goal of this practise is to
become more creative and
dynamic individuals and team
members, not to let it make us
overly self-indulgent!
